Chapter 51 Three Months "Why do you think so?"...
"Why do you think so?" Fani asked.
"That Dio you're talking about...it's not like he's only met me once."
"Doesn't that mean I didn't lie?" Fanny Valentine spread out her hands with an innocent look. "My dear, many things in reality aren't as logical as in books. If I wanted to lie, I could just leave out those words, but I didn't. Doesn't that mean I didn't lie?"
"but……"
"So I'm telling you, whether it's Diego or Dio, you should be wary. They're just a bunch of inexplicable lunatics." Fani Valentine looked at Mary with her azure eyes, her gaze clear and her expression like she was giving a public speech. "Your judgment of those things should be based on whether you believe you did them and whether they contradict your own understanding."
Mary said something for a moment
As a politician, Fani Valentine often plays word games, so his speech is slower than that of an average person. He tells stories without ups and downs, just objective and straightforward. Even though this is Mary's story, Mary doesn't feel the slightest bit of involvement.
She listened to the bizarre events as if they were the history of the United States. It wasn't long, but it was quite dull.
Mary's mouth opened and closed; it was a rare moment when she was speechless.
Fanny Valentine paid no attention to her silence and touched Mary's hair as usual: "My dear, those memories are not good. You don't need to care about them."
"That's easy to say." Mary slapped Fanny Valentine's hand away irritably. "It's not you who has lost your memory."
A comforting kiss brushed across her cheek. When Mary looked at him, he calmly returned to his original position, his expression becoming serious. "Okay, I'll ask you one last time, are you willing to accept that mission?"
"Accepted." Mary rubbed her temples. "When is the deadline? How much will it cost me?"
The corners of the man's mouth curled up: "My dear, I knew it..."
Before he could finish his words, the dagger was pressed against his Adam's apple. Mary said coldly, "Stop the formalities. If you don't give me 'that thing' in the end, I will kill you anyway."
The pink-gloved fingers gently stroked the back of Mary's hand. This delicate rubbing made Mary uncomfortably retract the knife.
"You're quite thoughtful, Mary." Fanny Valentine didn't cough uncontrollably, but simply calmed his breathing. "Cover it with your collar, and the indentation won't be noticeable." He was even a little excited. "Are you taking revenge on me? Angry that I cut your hand?"
Mary kept her mouth shut, not wanting to admit that Fani had guessed her thoughts, but this was irrefutable evidence.
His smile deepened, but he decided to quit while he was ahead. "There's not much time... only three months. Even if it doesn't work out, you'll still have a profit of half a million."
"So short a time?" Mary frowned.
"There's nothing I can do." Fani Valentine also looked troubled. "But I can only give you so much time. As before, you will still be partners with Blackmoya."
"Okay, how long do we have to leave?"
What Fanny Valentine liked best about Mary was that she never asked questions that would have made him try to deceive others.
"Tomorrow morning at nine o'clock," he said.
"Okay," Mary stood up decisively. Just as she was about to go out and explain the situation to Johnny, she heard heavy footsteps outside the house, accompanied by Diego's roar: "Mary? Mary, where are you?!"
The voice was so loud that it could be heard for hundreds of miles around. Mary stood up immediately, seriously suspecting that the person had transformed into a dinosaur to find her. If Johnny saw a big green dinosaur speaking human language, he would be scared to death.
Thinking of this, Mary could no longer sit still. She immediately rushed out of the dilapidated little house and happened to meet the eyes of the big dinosaur in the bushes.
When Johnny yelled, "bloody hell, what the hell is this!", Diego let out an earth-shattering cry, "Mary!!!"
The green dinosaur opened its huge mouth full of sharp teeth and roared towards the sky, then rushed towards Mary with its strong and powerful thighs, leaving exaggerated footprints on the ground.
"I'm here, I'm here!" Mary rushed over and rushed in front of Diego. The tall dinosaur lowered its head in a human-like manner and sniffed her carefully, its sleek tail swung behind it, sweeping up dust on the ground.
Diego heard the sound of a bullet being loaded. He looked up, and a human-like sneer appeared on the dinosaur's face. "Hey, isn't that Brother Joestar? You got here by turning your wheelchair? That's amazing! I really admire you."
"Stay away from Mary!" Johnny raised his gun, aiming it at the dinosaur. He was even calmer than Mary had imagined, his hand and arm perfectly still. He stared at Diego calmly and intently, ready to empty the magazine.
"Are you threatening me, Brother Joestar?" Diego opened his big mouth and saliva fell uncontrollably, dripping onto Mary's sleeve.
Looking at the sticky liquid soaking the fabric, Mary shook her hands in disgust and hit Diego on the neck: "Change back quickly!"
Mary kept yelling, but she didn't think Diego would listen to her. So she was a little surprised when she saw Diego transform from a dinosaur into a human.
"Mary~" After turning into a human, Diego immediately hugged her in his arms and acted coquettishly with her: "My neck hurts so much. That damn guy actually dared to sneak attack me, DIO!"
…
It was impossible not to feel guilty. Mary never thought that Diego would suspect the wrong person. She felt that she had betrayed Diego's trust and felt a little guilty.
"It hurts..." Diego buried his furry head in Mary's arms and took her hand to touch the back of his neck. Where Mary couldn't see, he smiled contemptuously at Johnny who was sitting in a wheelchair.
Is this kind of guy qualified to compete with DIO?
Drops of water dripped from his chin, and Johnny realized belatedly that they were his own tears.
Don't want to admit
But he had to admit
Mary and Diego look so well matched, both in height and appearance.
When you hate your enemy, you often understand him better than anyone else. Johnny knew that Diego would never show his strength to him in this way, and Diego also knew that Johnny would never come to such a place just for a female companion.
But so what?
Johnny felt that his hands were still steady, and he even felt that his eyes were moistened by tears, and he saw it more clearly than before.
"Bang!"
The pungent smell of gunpowder and the sound of gunfire stimulated people's hearing and smell at the same time, and a hole was torn in the brim of Diego's hat.
This is the beginning of the war
Johnny heard his own voice, not loud but steady: "I'm saying this for the last time, let go of Mary, otherwise..." This time he aimed at the other person's eyebrows, and the meaning was self-evident.
Diego's nails and teeth began to grow longer, and his pupils grew from round to vertical. He knew that Johnny was not threatening, but he, DIO, would always be the one to face challenges head-on and finish off the enemy!
"DIO!"
"Johnny!"
If Mary and Manden had not taken action at the same time and stopped the two guys respectively, someone might have died in this barren land today.
Mary tied Diego's hands behind his back and held him down with all her strength. Manden grabbed Johnny's gun and handed it to the terrified Lilith.
"Mary, I don't think you have any extra time to waste, do you?" Fanny Valentine came out on time. His identity always made everyone calmer.
"What do you mean?" Diego and Johnny asked at the same time, their faces looking extremely ugly.
Fani Valentine looked at Mary and, after receiving her tacit consent, said, "Mary is my subordinate. She needs to go on a long trip on business. Because it involves state secrets, I can only tell you that she will be away and will not be back for three months. I have no other comments."
Mary, are you leaving again?
Johnny didn't know why, but he felt a hissing sound in his ears. It wasn't loud, but it could isolate him from the real world.
Although he was looking at Mary, he felt that she had disappeared from his sight.
As expected...
Sometimes Johnny hated his ability to observe, but it was a gift, an instinct, the ability to connect tiny events naturally without using his brain.
Johnny knew that Mary was no ordinary person, but he never imagined that the time they spent together would be so short.
No……
Not short actually
They had three months, but he wasted those three months.
Johnny was now trying to recall that time, but he was horrified to find that he could not remember anything. His brain, soaked in alcohol, had no logic or rationality, and he could only see Mary's featureless face in his chaotic memories.
She stayed quietly in the corner, like moss in the house. Occasionally, she would pull him down from a high place when he was drunk, or help him take off his shoes.
The only time he was sober, he remembered his past self saying, "You bastard, why don't you leave?"
At that time, he looked at those gray pupils and felt only indifference. Now thinking back, they were filled with helplessness: "...Well, because I..."
"Okay, then don't leave." He waved his hand, not having the patience to listen to the other person's words. During this time, nothing was missing from the house, and the safe hadn't been pried open. He knew that the other person was not a bad person, and that was enough.
Anyway, he is not unable to support the other person, so there is no need to drive this homeless guy away.
He had a date next, so Johnny didn't stay any longer and strode out the door.
When he walked out of the house and turned to close the door, he saw the gray Mary again. She was still sitting there, motionless, like a candle sculpture. Johnny slowly closed the door, slowly isolating the sunlight from outside. When the sunlight on Mary's face disappeared, the door was already closed.
…
Looking back now, he realized that was his best chance to hold on to Mary. If he had been devoted to Mary at that time, he would not have dated other girls, nor would he have become disabled because of queue-cutting.
He was still the dazzling horse racer, radiating his passion. That way, he wouldn't have gone to see Doctor Lilith, nor would Manden have crossed paths with them. Without Manden, Diego wouldn't have been involved, and ultimately, he wouldn't have gotten involved with the President...
One wrong step leads to all wrong.
Johnny Joestar once again felt the interconnectedness of fate. Without his knowledge, fate had already arranged everything, waiting for him to be pushed forward by time.
He felt that the world was isolated from him, and all the words flowed past his ears without leaving any trace.
"Mr. President, although I know you said this is a state secret, I don't think recommending myself is a bad idea." Manden Tim looked at the president standing high up, speaking humorously yet calmly, "I'm a cowboy who has solved many cases. I also served in the army to defend our country. It would be an honor for me to be able to work for the president."
Fani Valentine never let such words fall on the ground in embarrassment. He walked down the stairs and patted the other person's shoulder affectionately: "If our country is full of people like you, then I will feel relieved."
Manden Tim understood the other party's intentions under the sugar-coated bullets, and he would not allow anyone to interfere with what Mary was going to do.
Fani dealt with Manden and looked at Diego and Lilith.
Diego was calm and composed, while Lilith lowered her head nervously.
"Mr. Manden, I can feel that you are a helpful person. I think this... gentleman really needs your help, right?" In broad daylight, Fanny Valentine looked very handsome, but in Lilith's eyes, he was a ghost escaped from hell.
In order to prevent the other party from having any further contact with her benefactor, Lilith forced a smile on her face and immediately continued, "Yes, Mr. Manden, could you please come over? I want to discuss something with you."
Manden Tim didn't suspect anything and walked towards Lilith.
After sending away an annoying guy, Fanny Valentine turned his gaze to Diego, his eyes not being polite.
"The people who are coming to pick us up will be here soon. You and Mary have been very busy recently. I hope you can have a good rest in the car." Just as he finished speaking, the sound of wheels rolling was heard in the distance. Fani Valentine took control of the situation again and cut off Diego and everyone else's conversation.
