Chapter 67 Bloodsucking "You think I will believe whatever you say...
"Do you think I'll believe everything you say?" Kaz pinched Mary's cheek unhappily. "Don't think you can fool me, Kaz!"
The woman before him relaxed, a stark contrast to the previously reserved and cautious woman. He even wondered if she was playing dirty, deliberately trying to get him to let down his guard and stay close to him, until she understood his character and began testing his limits.
Normally, Mary would have slapped Kaz's rough hand away, but now, adopting presidential behavior, she simply patted Kaz's sturdy arm soothingly and said softly, "The sun will rise in a few hours. Why would I tell a self-defeating lie?"
This sentence made Kaz silent. He loosened his vise-like hands and pursed his lips stiffly into a straight line.
Originally, in his eyes, Mary was a woman who was very easy to handle, but now it seemed that his thinking was too simple.
The easy-to-grab soft persimmon turned into a hard nut to crack, and no one could accept it immediately.
Kaz's face was so gloomy that you could squeeze water out of it. He crossed his arms over his chest, rhythmically tapping his upper arms with his index fingers, and began to think in a dark direction.
Mary chose to ignore Kaz's frown and the smell of blood in the air, and just picked a clean seat to sit down.
It had been a long time since she had worked so hard for a whole day and night without eating or drinking. Even if Mary was made of iron, she could not bear it now.
She curled up in the chair with her face turned to the side and closed her eyes. If it weren't for Kaz beside her, she would have fallen asleep.
"Hello..." A man's magnetic and slightly upturned voice sounded not far away.
"Hmm?" Mary didn't open her eyes, only responding with a nasal tone. She knew that although Kaz looked cold, he was actually very stable and would not hurt anyone easily.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have chosen to wear human clothing and blend in with the crowd, wasting his time and energy to determine if the gems he had taken were actually worth his while. Instead of just walking into the auction house, killing everyone indiscriminately, and then walking away after discovering the goods weren't what they said, leaving behind the useless pendant.
The conversation ended without further development, and Mary reluctantly opened her eyes, only to see Kaz's handsome face, which was still flawless even when magnified.
His expression was so serious that it gave people goose bumps. Mary felt that if his eyes could become a substance, she would have been dissected into pieces and placed in order in the laboratory for him to study.
He was so focused that he didn't realize that if he got any closer, the horns on his head would poke her forehead.
"What... are you looking at?" Mary felt uncomfortable with the other person's direct gaze and subconsciously wanted to move back, but found that she was stuck tightly to the cushion with no room to retreat. She had no choice but to pinch the horns on the other person's head and signal him to stay away.
It was clearly just an ordinary action, but the other party retreated back like a frightened cat, with an embarrassed and annoyed expression on his face: "What the hell are you doing?!"
"Keep your horns away from me." Mary didn't want a big hole to be poked in her head. What if it would cause her to lose her memory for the second time?
Not only did this sentence fail to appease Kaz, it made him even more unhappy.
After glaring at this ungrateful woman, Kaz snorted coldly as he absorbed the still warm corpse. He then sat on the auction table with his back to Mary, making it clear that he didn't want to communicate with her again in the short term.
Mary didn't feel the awkward atmosphere. She just felt that she finally had time to breathe. She allowed herself to close her eyes again and dozed off.
The surroundings were very quiet, and she unknowingly went from dozing off to a real sleep.
When she woke up again, she was awakened by a loud noise.
She opened her eyes warily, only to see that the wall beside her was smashed open by brute force, and golden sunlight poured in happily from outside the cave, surrounding her completely.
Kaz stood on the other side, his right arm completely corroded by the sun, making him look like Venus with a broken arm.
He was now huddled in the shadows, staring at her without blinking.
Is it so cruel?
Mary thought that Kaz would at most wake her up and let her go out into the sunlight to confirm the truth of the words, but she didn't expect that he would choose to verify her guess by a sneak attack.
She spat at Kaz in her heart. If she wasn't really not afraid of the sun, she would have been killed by the sun by now, and there would be no room for saving her.
It seems that he is the type who really hates being deceived and fooled, and will definitely take revenge if provoked.
Mary's vigilance, which had been somewhat dissipated, was revived. She chose not to approach Kaz, but continued to stay in the sunlight. "Does this prove that what I said is true?"
The other person's blood-red eyes were still bright in the dim environment. He clenched and unclenched his hands, forcing himself to dispel the shock and desire in his eyes.
Even though he was already some distance away from the sunlight, he still cautiously retreated to a darker and safer place before saying, "Tell me, what is your purpose?"
He held his head high with pride, looking more like an aristocrat than the other guys at the previous auction who had been dressed in fancy clothes but were running away in panic. Even with his clothes loose and his hair disheveled, he still looked like a figure who had escaped from a painting.
Perhaps fearing Mary might make excessive demands, Kaz snorted with laughter. "But let me warn you, anyone who pushes their luck won't end well at my hands." His mouth opened and closed, his words quickening. "The reason you suddenly changed your attitude and exposed your true colors is because of that thing that turns people into Stand users."
"You don't want me to explore, which just proves you think I'm capable of obtaining it." Even though he wasn't as tall and burly as the Kaz from the other world, his oppressive presence was still astonishing. "But I have to admit, your blood piqued my interest. Otherwise, I have a hundred ways to pry open your mouth and obtain the information I want."
In fact, Mary had never thought of reaching any deal with Kaz. It was just a delaying tactic to buy time.
She was very sure that her Italian was flawless and that she couldn't hear any accent at all. In addition, she and Jero had known each other for nearly a month and had perfectly learned the gestures used by Italians when speaking. There was no way that the other party could know her true nationality.
As long as she could survive these few days and wait for the boatman arranged by the president to pick her and Blackmoya up, Mary could escape without anyone noticing. By the time Kaz found out, it was too late.
The world is so big that even if Kaz doesn't eat, drink or sleep, it will definitely take him several years to find her. By that time, she will definitely have obtained the saint's body that she most desires, so she doesn't have to worry about Kaz getting there first and then destroying it.
Furthermore... the lesson Fani Valentine had taught her was still fresh in her mind. He had unilaterally broken the agreement even though they had already been agreed upon. He even threatened her with someone important to her in order to get her to stay.
Initially, Mary believed Kaz was a principled man, but the events of the Illumination reveal that Kaz is not only intelligent, but also as ruthless as Fanny Valentine. If Fanny threatened her, then Kaz could certainly do the same.
Having a guy who can flexibly adjust principles and bottom lines by your side is no less than sleeping soundly with a time bomb under your pillow.
I just feel like I've lived enough.
If Kaz followed her and left, Mary would never be able to get close to Johnny again in her life.
If the other party knew his weakness, he would never negotiate with him like he is now. He might just grab Johnny's neck and threaten her to cut off her flesh and blood, and do whatever he wants to her.
With this in mind, Mary stated her conditions: "First, I have the final say on how much blood I give you. Second, you must obey me. Finally, you can create vampires to gather information for yourself, but you cannot let them harm ordinary people."
The other person habitually tilted his head, and looked at Mary with narrow eyes, unconsciously taking on the charm of a fox: "Be obedient, how do you want to be obedient?"
This really stumped Mary. She wasn't sure how to define the scope and degree of obedience. She frowned involuntarily, then quickly relaxed: "Don't ask unnecessary questions, don't do things I don't want you to do, that's what I think is obedience."
This sentence did not anger Kaz. He just let out a muffled laugh, as if mocking Mary for being a weird person.
She now has neither the arrogance of a superior nor the cautiousness of an inferior. She has withdrawn from deliberate imitation and slowly become a newer self.
Mary's manner of speaking reminded Kaz of the time many, many years ago, when the Pillar People still lived underground and they were a group of people who were easily satisfied.
There is no hatred between them, nor will they form groups because of their weakness. When the difference in fighting power is almost the same, everyone is equal.
The human world is the opposite. They are like a group of thorny hedgehogs, but they have to huddle together for warmth, and then they start to hurt each other because of the pain, and finally make the peaceful land a mess.
Kaz doesn't like humans, but he doesn't hate them enough to want to erase them.
Looking at Mary's current state, he instinctively felt comfortable. It was as if he was still underground, nodding to a Pillar Man who had returned from hunting.
Maybe... Mary was overthinking it, she was just a Pillar Person.
The closeness between the same tribe slowly gained the upper hand over Kaz. He showed an ordinary but rare smile without any meaning: "Oh... I see." He jumped in front of Mary like a nimble cat. Even though he was burned by the sun, he stretched out his hand and pulled Mary from the light into the darkness.
"Am I being disobedient?" He deliberately moved closer to Mary and teased her with the corners of his lips raised.
"...It doesn't count." Mary felt that the other party was teasing her, but she was not angry.
She knew that Kaz had no ill intentions, but she didn't quite understand why he had become so close to her again.
What a strange man... Mary thought.
But now that she has stabilized Kaz, she is very satisfied with herself.
Mary thought about whether to give the blood now or at night and decided that now would be better.
She had no idea how long her blood would last. If she came late at night and Kaz sucked a lot of her blood, and it was digested by him when the sun came out in the morning, wouldn't her blood be wasted?
Thinking that she still had things to do later, Mary stopped procrastinating, cut her wrist again with her backhand, and handed it to Kaz's mouth: "Eat it."
She was glared at by Kaz, who seemed very unhappy with her behavior. However, his passion for studying blood did not make him say anything. Instead, he stuck out his tongue and licked the wound on her wrist like a docile big dog.
The numb, itchy and hot feeling made Mary's scalp tingle. Even though she knew what Kaz was doing, she still shook her wrist reflexively, and then the purple-haired man pinched her arm.
Even though his head completely blocked her wrist, Mary knew that her wound was almost healed. Just as she was about to cut her wrist again with a knife, Kaz got there first.
He moved his pretty cheek and bit it again, an inch above her wrist.
"Hiss..." Mary gasped in pain. She was very unhappy and pulled the back of Kaz's head, pulling out a few strands of hair. But Kaz didn't care at all. He had his own way of revenge.
After the second wound healed again, he continued to move upwards, like staples in a book, and bit forward again.
He enthusiastically bit Mary's wrist, then her upper arm, and then slid from her upper arm to her neck. Only then did he contentedly lean his head on Mary's shoulder and lazily lick the blood from the wound with his tongue.
Mary was initially a bit annoyed by Kaz's poor eating habits, but his rather charming appearance ultimately made her sigh. "That's about enough blood. You can research it yourself. I'm leaving now."
Without thinking, Kaz grabbed Mary and said, "Where are you going?"
"Such a big thing has happened here. If I don't leave, will I be arrested if I stay here?" Mary pulled Kaz's arm away and immediately moved into the sunlight. "I'll come find you here tonight, and we'll finalize other matters then."
Without giving Kaz a chance to stay, she ran away in a few flashes, leaving Kaz standing there.
The other party looked at his arm, which was not damaged by the sunlight, in shock, with a storm in his eyes.
