Chapter 47 Why did I agree?

The following day, Li Tangyan indeed appeared at the law firm entrance as Wen Zhaonian had predicted.

"Hello, is Attorney Wen here?"

"Excuse me, Attorney Wen is out and hasn't returned yet. Would you please have a seat and wait a while?"

In just one year, the receptionist has become a completely different person.

So, when he saw the person who came, he just smiled politely and then led Li Tangyan to the rest area.

Having not been here for a long time, Li Tangyan had become quite reserved. After the receptionist left, she simply took a couple of sips of the paper cup filled with warm water and stared blankly at the wall opposite her.

When Wen Zhaonian entered, his gaze immediately fell upon the figure sitting on the sofa in a daze.

She wore her hair in a low bun today, her body was slightly bent over, and her elbows were resting on her knees.

With her head tilted slightly back, seemingly looking at something, the faint blue veins on her fair neck were revealed.

She lightly bit the edge of the paper cup between her teeth, and when she heard the noise and looked over, her slightly parted lips instantly pursed.

The two looked at each other, but neither spoke immediately.

It was Zheng Chuan, who came in with Wen Zhaonian, who broke the silence.

As he spoke, his gaze swept over the two of them once more: "Oh, we meet again, Little Chestnut."

"Yes, it's been a long time."

Li Tangyan didn't understand the hidden meaning in Zheng Chuanyi's words and simply nodded.

Before Zheng Chuan could say anything more, Wen Zhaonian's clear gaze fell upon him: "Don't you still have things to do?"

Zheng Chuan replied: "..."

I can do anything for gossip.

Zheng Chuan thought this, but in the end he didn't dare to say it out loud.

After speaking in a strange tone to him, he quickly slipped away just as Wen Zhaonian raised his leg to kick him.

The moment the office blinds were pulled down, they completely blocked the gossipy gaze of the group of people outside.

Seeing the curtain drawn, Zhou Sui pouted and sat back down in her seat with some disappointment.

She glanced at Zheng Chuanyi, who had just walked over, and gestured with her chin towards the other side, still somewhat unwilling to give up: "What's going on between them?"

"Are you curious?" Zheng Chuan smiled, revealing a shallow dimple on his cheek.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Sui nodded repeatedly.

However, the next second, he grinned even wider and said, "Then go and eavesdrop."

"I'm waiting to hear it."

"..."

Meanwhile, inside the office.

Across from her, Wen Zhaonian seemed to be waiting for her to speak. After sitting down, he casually pulled out some documents from the side and started reading them.

The sound of the paper turning was clear and distinct in the quiet environment.

Unbeknownst to her, Li Tangyan's hand resting on her knee curled up slightly.

Her lips parted and closed several times, as if she wanted to bring up the interview, but the words she was about to say had already quietly changed to something she had been thinking about since yesterday.

"Since you've already added each other's contact information, why delete it?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the rustling sound of the paper being turned stopped.

Wen Zhaonian closed the folder again, and the back of his chair made a slight, deep sound as he suddenly leaned back.

Then, he lifted his eyelids and looked directly at Li Tangyan: "And what about you?"

With a soft sneer, Wen Zhaonian's voice carried a hint of oppressive depth.

His dark eyes were intensely focused, reflecting Li Tangyan's figure as if a vortex would rise in an instant and sweep her into an unfathomable depth.

Li Tangyan didn't expect him to skip the pleasantries and go straight back to the beginning.

The curled fingertips tightened immediately, quickly pressing a small mark into the web of the thumb.

When she looked up again, all the thoughts in her eyes had been concealed.

He changed the subject abruptly, a faint smile already on his face as he spoke: "The reason I came to see you today is actually about an exclusive interview."

"I wonder what Attorney Wen's decision is?"

The tone was polite and not distant, but it wasn't exactly warm either.

Wen Zhaonian stared at her for a moment, then quickly looked away.

His eyelids were drooping, and his gaze seemed to be fixed on something on the table.

The renewed silence made Li Tangyan almost unable to maintain her forced smile.

As if afraid he wouldn't hear her, she leaned forward slightly and raised her voice.

"Attorney Wen?"

He lightly tapped the table with his bent knuckles, and with a soft sound, when he looked up again, he saw that his eyes had somehow taken on a cold and aloof quality.

Why should I agree?

"What benefit would it bring me?"

Upon hearing this, Li Tangyan's smile froze.

It quickly returned to normal.

But his voice lowered slightly as he spoke: "How can there be no benefits? Once the interview is published, the higher the fame, the more money you'll make."

She muttered to herself, perhaps realizing that Wen Zhaonian's attitude had become increasingly colder than before, or even worse. As Li Tangyan spoke, besides feeling somewhat disappointed, her words also carried a hint of resentment.

However, Wen Zhaonian seemed to be deliberately challenging her today, and suddenly smiled.

As she looked up curiously, she saw him resting his chin on his hand, the slight smile on his lips giving him a languid air.

At the same time, the words he uttered had an unusually irritating quality.

His voice was slow and deliberate, with a metallic quality and a distinct graininess: "I'm not short of money."

Li Tangyan: "..."

*

—I'm not short of money.

When Li Tangyan left the law firm, Wen Zhaonian's last words kept echoing in her mind.
