Chapter 16 I never said you were nervous because of this.

A gust of wind blew by, and cool raindrops fell on the side of her neck, making Li Tangyan involuntarily shrink her neck.

She naturally noticed Wen Zhaonian's actions, and while she was happy, she also felt a little warm inside.

Li Tangyan lightened her steps, splashing water beneath her feet: "These three words sound pretty harsh. Why don't you remove one of the words and shout it again?"

She looked up at those light-colored lips, her eyes darted around, and before a laugh escaped her throat, she pressed her tongue against those two rabbit teeth, a sly look on her face.

Wen Zhaonian called her a goddess.

That would be enough to make you laugh in your dreams.

Wen Zhaonian turned his head slightly and happened to meet her gaze.

Li Tangyan's intentions were too obvious; one could tell what she wanted to do without even having to think about it.

That undisguised smile made Wen Zhaonian feel that if she had a tail, it would definitely be wagging its furry tail right now.

"Well—" he said, his slightly hoarse voice deliberately drawn out, as if he were teasing a pet.

Upon hearing this, Li Tangyan seemed afraid of missing out and moved closer, blinking her eyes repeatedly with an unspoken air of obedience.

Instantly, the scent of lime in his nostrils intensified. He looked at Li Tangyan's round eyes, which curved into crescent shapes, and raised his hand.

Just like last time, his fingertips, slightly cool from the rain, gently touched her forehead.

Then, changing the subject, a soft chuckle escaped his lips as it rose from his Adam's apple: "Yes, idol."

"..."

Li Tangyan's home wasn't far from here, so it didn't take long to get there.

Because the housing prices in this area are relatively cheap, most of the houses are old and haven't been renovated yet.

The soundproofing in the apartment building is generally poor, so you can often hear the sounds of naughty children getting into trouble and being chased and scolded by their parents upstairs.

Meanwhile, the trumpet creeper on the opposite side had almost climbed to the very top of the wall, its fragrance becoming even more intense in the rain.

The old streetlights creaked and groaned as the night wind blew through them.

The rain subsided, and the warm yellow light shone down, making the drizzling raindrops beside me look like fireflies flying out at night.

"Take this umbrella with you. Remember to take your medicine when you get home." Before going upstairs, Li Tangyan looked at the person in front of her and didn't forget to emphasize this.

After saying that, she prepared to walk back as the rain subsided.

Before she could even turn around, a shadow fell upon her.

She looked up and saw that Wen Zhaonian had already bent down. Under the tilted umbrella, raindrops fell on her shoulders, but it seemed that he did not notice them.

Wen Zhaonian looked at her, his dark eyes seemingly possessing a magic that could see through people's hearts: "Li Tangyan."

"What were you nervous about at the karaoke bar during the day?"

Wen Zhaonian's voice was deliberately low and deep, and the simple words he uttered with his thin lips gave people a sense of pressure as he approached step by step.

In a moment of panic, I stepped back, causing the heel of my shoe to sink straight into a puddle.

The puddle wasn't deep, but the splashed water, mixed with some mud, settled on the white shoes.

"Who...who told you I was nervous? Following the steps, you do need to have a partner first, right?" Li Tangyan felt that her expression must be very stiff at this moment.

But she still deliberately tugged at the corners of her mouth, while her fingertips behind her back were nervously intertwined: "Or is it that you, Attorney Wen, want to help me solve this problem?"

His attempt at lighthearted banter did not divert his attention.

Wen Zhaonian's gaze remained fixed on her, and seeing that Li Tangyan couldn't avoid it, she simply lowered her eyes.

His voice was slightly deep, and it was unclear whether there was a hint of sarcasm in it: "Li Tangyan, if you lie, your nose will grow long."

Wen Zhaonian returned the exact same words to Li Tangyan, and then Wen Zhaonian straightened up again.

The light behind them shone down again with less obstruction, but it didn't bring any warmth to their bodies: "And the reason I never said you were nervous is because of this."

Snap—

Water droplets from the trumpet creeper slid down the petals and landed in a puddle in the corner of the wall.

Instantly, ripples spread across the shallow water, mirroring her own troubled thoughts...

That night, Li Tangyan had a dream.

In her dream, the arguing couple reappeared before her.

As the noise grew louder, the two men's pushing and shoving became increasingly out of control.

The shrill female voice and the booming male voice lingered in my ears for an unknown amount of time.

Just when Li Tangyan thought she was going to drown in this suffocating scene, the two unfamiliar faces gradually changed.

When the dream ended, only a cold female voice echoed in my ears.

—You're just like your dad. I'm just unlucky to have ended up with your family.

Li Tangyan was startled awake from her dream when the alarm clock rang.

The heavy rain subsided, and the sun shone brightly outside the window. Dappled sunlight streamed in and fell on the wooden table in front of the window, casting long shadows on the notebooks draped over it.

Potato was still fast asleep on his soft cushion, and when he heard the noise, he just twisted his round body and turned over.

Their adorable and silly appearance subtly conveys the message: "Take advantage of them while they're young."

Li Tangyan looked at it for a few more seconds before tugging at the corners of her mouth, her mood, which had been affected by the dream, calming down a little.

She got out of bed and changed her clothes, which were soaked with cold sweat. Just as she was about to go out to cook something, her phone, which was lying next to her, rang.

She picked it up and was somewhat surprised when she saw Zheng Chuanyi's name on the screen.

【Li Zi, are you free right now? Could you please check if A Zhao is home? I'm at the airport and need his help with something, but I can't get through to him on the phone.】

As soon as the call connected, Zheng Chuan spoke at a rapid pace comparable to a rapper, sounding very anxious.

I do have free time, but...

After listening, Li Tangyan hesitated for a moment, biting her lip lightly between her teeth. When she released her lips, a faint mark had already been left on them.

But perhaps because someone on the other end called Zheng Chuanyi's name, he didn't hear what was said afterward. He thanked them a few times and then hurriedly hung up the phone.

As the screen went dark again, Li Tangyan vaguely recalled last night.

To be honest, although Wen Zhaonian didn't continue the topic last night, Li Tangyan was still a little hesitant to see him.

However, before she could hesitate for long, Zheng Chuanyi's address had already been sent, and at this point, thinking too much would be futile.

Wen Zhaonian now lives in the city center. Although he had heard from Yao Qing that his family was well-off since his school days, he was still living in a city.

Even if he doesn't become a lawyer, he could easily go home, sit back, and become a rich second-generation heir to inherit the family business.

But when Li Tangyan stood downstairs at Wen Zhaonian's house, looking at the towering building in front of her.

Li Tangyan suddenly realized that the rumors they had heard over the years were actually quite mild.

Because Zheng Chuan had given prior notice, Li Tangyan did not encounter any obstacles when she entered.

When they arrived at Wen Zhaonian's house, Li Tangyan took a deep breath and was just about to raise her hand to ring the doorbell.

Then I heard a snapping sound.
