For the first time, Li Tangyan felt a little resistant to going to S City.
She wanted to have a serious talk with Wen Zhaonian, but when she arrived at the law firm, Zheng Chuan told her mysteriously that he had been at home for the past two days and was unable to go to work.
They said if she had time, she could go and offer her some words of comfort.
Upon hearing this, out of curiosity, Li Tangyan was about to go to his house to take a look when Zheng Chuanyi stopped her.
He leaned closer and looked at himself curiously for a moment, then said, "Did you two have a fight? I feel like you two are on different wavelengths lately."
Li Tangyan just chuckled dryly and made a few perfunctory remarks before heading to Wen Zhaonian's house.
When they arrived at Wen Zhaonian's house, Li Tangyan rang the doorbell for a while but there was no response.
Just as I was wondering whether I should call him, the sound of the door unlocking rang in my ears.
The sudden eye contact startled both of them.
Then, Wen Zhaonian was the first to react, and stepped aside to let her in: "Why did you suddenly come over?"
—I suddenly wanted to see you.
Li Tangyan ultimately didn't say what was on her mind.
She glanced at Wen Zhaonian's hand and then understood what Zheng Chuanyi had told her when she came.
I noticed that the back of his hand, which was hanging by his side, was wrapped with gauze. As I followed him into the room, I saw a half-opened ointment on the table.
In no time, Li Tangyan had already forgotten her original purpose for coming here.
Her delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly, and her voice rose several octaves: "Why didn't you say you were injured?"
Wen Zhaonian lowered his eyes and saw that Li Tangyan's fair face was serious.
She bit her lip lightly, as if she was very unhappy that he had kept it from her.
Unconsciously, Wen Zhaonian had a strange feeling of something he hadn't felt in a long time.
Instead of showing any displeasure, he softened his voice and said in a coaxing tone, as if soothing a child, "It's nothing, I just accidentally scratched it."
In response, Li Tangyan merely glanced at him and snorted softly.
Acting swiftly, she grabbed his unharmed other hand and led him to the place where the ointment was kept.
As he walked, he muttered under his breath, seemingly still angry, "I might as well just slash you to death."
Behind him, Wen Zhaonian let her pull him forward.
His gaze fell on her cheeks, which were slightly puffed up with anger as she turned her head away from time to time. He raised the corner of his eye, and the next second his palm tightened around hers.
The camel-colored scarf was draped over the sofa next to it by its owner.
After Li Tangyan pulled Wen Zhaonian to sit down, she skillfully began to help him remove the gauze from his hands.
After the gauze was removed, revealing a rather large, still slightly pink cut underneath, his brows furrowed even more deeply.
She threw the used gauze into the trash can, and her movements became noticeably gentler when she started applying the medicine.
Outside the window, the snow began to fall again. Li Tangyan had already put her coat and scarf aside when she came in because she found them inconvenient, leaving only her white sweater underneath.
She was looking down, her almond-shaped eyes wide, her gaze fixed intently on his hands.
Her serene appearance inexplicably reminds one of an innocent-looking white rabbit.
Thinking of this, a soft chuckle escaped from his Adam's apple.
Upon hearing this, Li Tangyan, who had just finished bandaging her wound, couldn't help but look up, tilting her head slightly, a hint of doubt flashing in her eyes: "What's so funny?"
"nothing."
"For a fleeting moment, I thought the rabbit had become a spirit."
"..."
Seeing the smile in his eyes, Li Tangyan knew without guessing that it wasn't something nice.
After clicking his tongue, he turned his attention away and began packing up the rest of the things.
After everything was put back into the first-aid kit, Wen Zhaonian's voice came from behind: "I thought you weren't going to come looking for me again."
Li Tangyan stopped in her tracks, and for a moment she felt that there was a hint of grievance in the man's words.
At the same time, Wen Zhaonian's words from his wedding came back to mind.
Li Tangyan, you really are a bastard.
As Li Tangyan was thinking this, she took another step forward after pausing.
By the time he packed up the first-aid kit and went back, his facial expression had returned to normal.
She stood in front of Wen Zhaonian, her eyes filled with a complex expression as she looked up.
"Wen Zhaonian, I'll be leaving after the New Year."
As she spoke, Li Tangyan clearly heard that she didn't pause at all.
Like an executioner wielding a knife, there was no hesitation whatsoever the moment he took up the blade.
"But if you disagree, I—"
"I have no objection, you can go."
If you disagree, I'll stay.
Following Dr. Guo's advice, no matter what, you must try to believe in yourself, believe in yourself...
Before he could finish speaking, all his words were choked back up by the clear, crisp voice that appeared at the same time.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, a thin layer of white mist had settled on the surface due to the cold weather.
Even with the heating on, she could feel the chill spreading from her fingertips inside the room.
Wen Zhaonian stood with his back to the floor-to-ceiling window. The heavy fog outside blurred the scenery and, seemingly, the people in his view as well...
*
Li Tangyan didn't know what she was feeling when she left Wen Zhaonian's house; she only remembered that from that day on, she and Wen Zhaonian completely lost contact.
During the Chinese New Year, Li Tangyan went back to X City, but did not stay there for long before returning to Z City to pack her things.
