Wen Zhaonian stroked her soft hair, his voice softening unconsciously as he spoke: "Why did you suddenly come here?"
"It's for your birthday."
Li Tangyan stepped out of his embrace and looked up at Wen Zhaonian, her head tilting to the side.
Wanwan smiled mischievously: "So, are you happy?"
Li Tangyan's hands were still gripping the hems of her clothes on both sides.
As she said this, the corners of her lips curved into a deeper smile, like a squirrel holding a piece of fruit it had painstakingly picked and placing it in front of itself, eagerly awaiting praise.
Wen Zhaonian looked at her and vaguely thought that if Li Tangyan could grow a tail, it would definitely be wagging happily right now without him noticing.
As he was thinking, he reached out and grabbed the other hand that was still clinging to his clothes.
Instead, she took his hand and led Li Tangyan toward the lonely suitcase that had been left behind.
As Wen Zhaonian helped her push her suitcase, he watched as Li Tangyan leaned over again, still unwilling to give up and kept asking questions.
He lifted his eyelids slightly, then subtly applied pressure with his palm.
With a slight bend of his knuckles, his thumb soon pressed against the web between her thumb and index finger, bringing a subtle, ticklish sensation.
Li Tangyan gasped softly, her face flushing, and then she prepared to pull her hand back.
However, Wen Zhaonian pulled her even tighter.
Then, a clear male voice slowly came from above: "Happy."
The struggling motions abruptly stopped as the words fell to the ground.
Li Tangyan lowered her head, her long, curled eyelashes fluttered, and the corners of her lips unconsciously widened into a deeper smile.
Wen Zhaonian helped Li Tangyan put her suitcase back in her room.
When he came out of the room again, he saw Li Tangyan leaning against the window looking at the scenery outside.
In May, the weather in the neighboring city was already quite hot.
Inside, a cool breeze blew gently from the air conditioner, lifting a stray strand of hair that had fallen across her face.
The sunlight streamed in, casting a soft, pale glow on the person, making them appear as if they were draped in a thin layer of white.
Wen Zhaonian walked up to Li Tangyan and casually tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear: "Are you hungry? Let me take you for a walk."
"Yeah, I saw a nice barbecue restaurant when I came here."
Li Tangyan nodded heavily, then her eyes darted around as if she remembered something and added, "Let's take the bus. I've heard that even the scenery here is worth seeing."
While you're at it, check out what fun things are available nearby.
Li Tangyan was still thinking about Wen Zhaonian's birthday tomorrow, so much so that her voice carried a hint of excitement that she herself didn't realize.
Seeing this, Wen Zhaonian didn't expose her, and chuckled as he nodded, "Whatever you say."
When the two went out, it happened to be the busiest time of day, around noon.
However, perhaps because Wen Zhaonian and Li Tangyan were lucky, there weren't many people on the bus they boarded.
As soon as they got on the bus, Li Tangyan pulled Wen Zhaonian to sit down in the back row.
Soon, as the car door closed again, the scenery outside the window began to move backward.
In the distance, petals from the jacaranda tree were blown by a gust of wind and landed on the windowsill outside.
Li Tangyan took out her phone, just about to take a picture through the car window.
However, as the bus approached the next stop, the moment the driver stopped the bus, the passengers inside involuntarily lurched forward.
At that moment, Li Tangyan was half-turned, intently watching the screen on her phone.
So much so that the elbow resting against the window twitched the moment the bus stopped.
The next second, the hand gripping the phone tightened, and it looked like it was about to hit the protruding screw embedded in the handrail in front of it.
Then, before she could reach out her other hand to help, a familiar scent wafted into her nostrils, and a fair wrist flashed before her eyes.
In a short while, Wen Zhaonian had already pulled her back.
In her ears, accompanied by a low laugh, Wen Zhaonian's deliberately hushed words easily transported her back to a certain part of her memory.
"Chestnut Porridge, let's drive next time."
"Why can't you stop making noise once you get on the bus, huh?"
