Chapter 14 Raising him like a son

She cleared her throat and then placed the warm milk in her hand on the table in front of him.

"There aren't many pharmacies nearby. If you have any cold medicine at home, remember to take it when you get back."

As soon as he finished speaking, some sharp-eyed people noticed what was on the table.

Before long, people started teasing: "Drinking milk in a KTV, Chestnut, are you trying to raise our lawyer Wen like a son?"

"It's not impossible, you could even charge admission fees if you took it out."

Li Tangyan glared at them, but she didn't hold back. She touched the roof of her mouth with her tongue and pretended to smear it on his head.

The moment I turned around, I met a pair of dark eyes.

His thin jacket fell to his knees with his movement, and Wen Zhaonian leaned forward, instantly closing the distance between them: "Hmm?"

The air suddenly became thin, and Li Tangyan's fingertips, which were suspended in mid-air, were only a few centimeters apart from his head.

With just one touch, you can feel the softness of the hair.

Wen Zhaonian was looking up at himself, without making any other movements. In terms of the situation, the sitting and standing postures could even be considered as Li Tangyan gaining a great advantage.

But in fact, Li Tangyan suddenly withdrew her hand as if she had been electrocuted. The heat that gradually rose to her fingertips made her unable to distinguish between reality and a dream.

She was also looking at Wen Zhaonian, and vaguely saw a cunning fox revealing its sharp teeth.

The moment you move, it will pounce forward with lightning speed and snatch the unsuspecting scruff of your neck.

Li Tangyan touched her neck, feeling a chill: "I was just kidding."

As they were talking, the people playing the game over there were short one person and turned to call her over.

After repeatedly agreeing, Li Tangyan breathed a sigh of relief and headed over there when she saw Wen Zhaonian look away.

After Li Tangyan left, the corner returned to its original quiet state.

Wen Zhaonian's gaze, which had been elsewhere, returned to that direction at some point.

Not far ahead, Li Tangyan had pulled up a stool and joined the group of people. Her eyes were curved, and her shoulders trembled from time to time, revealing her joy at being amused.

Wen Zhaonian scoffed. Looking at her like this, he suddenly felt that she was more like a member of this law firm than he was.

Soon, Wen Zhaonian looked away, leaned back, and rested his back against the sofa.

Before long, drowsiness returned, but just as his eyelids were about to close again, Wen Zhaonian's peripheral vision inadvertently fell on the bottle of milk on the table.

The hands on the wristwatch turned silently.

A few seconds later, a hand with distinct knuckles covered the milk bottle, and warmth instantly surged up from the fingertips.

Soon, the unopened milk was placed beside him, his palm covering it, forming an invisible barrier.

With his free hand, he grabbed the hem of the thin coat, lifted it up, and the coat covered his head.

The movements were performed in one smooth motion.

The door to the private room was ajar, and dappled light streamed in through the crack, softening the interior.

The hushed conversations outside the corridor went unnoticed by those inside who were having a great time.

During the conversation, someone mentioned that a colleague had just given birth to twins, and the atmosphere reached its peak for a moment.

Li Tang was sitting to the side in a daze when she suddenly felt someone bump her shoulder: "Li Zi, what about you? After you get married, do you want to have a boy or a girl?"

“I think it’s great to have a girl, and I can even braid her hair.”

"I hadn't thought about it."

The joy in the birthday greeting came to an abrupt end with Li Tangyan's calm and almost hesitant reply.

A brief silence fell over the surroundings.

The phone next to her lit up with a ding, and Li Tangyan's hand, which had been hanging in mid-air, froze for a moment before she realized the coldness in her words.

She looked up and, sure enough, noticed the strange looks in the eyes of those around her. She quickly changed her expression: "What I mean is, you need to have a partner first, right?"

She blinked, and the playfulness in her eyes quickly dispelled everyone's doubts. Her words were laced with ambiguity, and they could only laugh at her for having ulterior motives.

The topic came and went quickly, and soon everyone's attention returned to the present.

Li Tangyan breathed a sigh of relief, but lost all interest in continuing, so she simply switched the positions and the age.

Bored, she was about to check on Wen Zhaonian when her gaze met his dark eyes the moment she looked up.

Wen Zhaonian didn't know when he woke up.

The lights were enchanting, making the scene in front of them seem as if they were draped in a hazy veil. The two were several meters apart, and there were even people between them.

But Li Tangyan could see the expression on Wen Zhaonian's face clearly.

His face was expressionless, his eyebrows slightly raised, and the sleepiness in his eyes faded, replaced by a clear and bright look, like a crystal-clear lake that could reflect the deepest part of people's hearts.

At this moment, he was like a shrewd hunter, able to find subtle clues hidden in the quiet forest with just a glance.

Li Tangyan's heart skipped a beat. She parted her lips slightly, but her smile froze on her face, looking somewhat out of place.

Wen Zhaonian was awakened by Zhou Sui's voice. The moment she looked up, she heard the same question Zhou Sui had asked Li Tangyan.

This wouldn't normally be something worth delving into, but Li Tangyan's reaction is interesting.

—What I mean is, we need to have a partner first, right?

When Li Tangyan said this, although she was smiling, the four corners of the card she was holding were slightly curled up.

It's easy to guess that the cards under your fingertips must be a little wrinkled right now.

Those blinking eyes, their gaze wandering, didn't focus on any one place until the words were finished.

Wen Zhaonian licked his upper lip, his eyes darkening. The warmth on the box in his palm disappeared, clearly unable to soothe his increasingly dry throat.

Wen Zhaonian flicked his finger, grabbed his coat, and was about to go outside for some fresh air when Li Tangyan looked over.

When their eyes met, like a child caught doing something wrong, Wen Zhaonian saw a guilty conscience in her eyes once again...

Intuition told him that Li Tangyan was hiding something from him.

Suddenly, it felt as if ants were crawling through his heart, and a voice appeared in his mind, tempting him to tear away this superficial illusion.

—Excuse me, whose car is this with license plate number XXX? I'm sorry, it was vandalized downstairs, and the owner may need to come down.

In the end, it began with an apology from the waiter and ended with another exclamation of "Holy crap!" from the private room, burying all the unspoken secrets in the chaos.
