Extra Chapter 7: What If Li Tangyan Had Been Discovered During the Airport Pickup? (2)

After Pan Le left, neither of them spoke until Wen Zhaonian dropped Li Tangyan off at her building.

As the sound of the car door unlocking rang in her ears, Li Tangyan unbuckled her seatbelt and her hand, which had been hanging by her side, curled up slightly.

After pressing a small crescent-shaped mark with the tip of his thumb on the lower joint of his index finger, he still couldn't help but turn around and look at Wen Zhaonian.

At the same time, meeting his gaze, Li Tangyan opened her lips as if to say something, but the words were replaced by a barely audible sigh.

"Thanks."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Li Tangyan saw the color in those dark eyes visibly darken.

His thin lips pressed into a straight line, and the sudden drop in pressure emanating from him made Li Tangyan realize Wen Zhaonian's dissatisfaction with the answer.

However, Li Tangyan did not say anything more. With a tightening of her palm, she quickly pushed open the car door and prepared to walk inside.

As their pace quickened, the deep emotion in the eyes of those still seated in the car was quickly replaced by a hint of helplessness.

Only after Li Tangyan's figure completely disappeared from sight did Wen Zhaonian turn his attention away and prepare to restart the car.

However, the next second, someone knocked twice on the passenger side window from the outside.

Wen Zhaonian rolled down the car window and his eyes met Yao Qing's smiling eyes.

She was carrying two bags of groceries, and as she met Wen Zhaonian's gaze, she glanced at the upstairs location.

With a knowing look, he said, "Want to come up and sit for a bit? Zhouzhou and I are planning to have hot pot."

“…”

Li Tangyan never expected that Wen Zhaonian would come back with Yao Qing.

So much so that the moment I saw him, I was completely stunned.

Seeing this, Yao Qing found it somewhat amusing: "What are you thinking about?"

Having said that, perhaps knowing what she wanted to say, he had already found a plausible excuse for Wen Zhaonian before Li Tangyan could speak.

"I met him downstairs. The things were too heavy for me to carry by myself, so I asked him for help."

After Yao Qing finished speaking, she put down what she was holding not long before her gaze swept over the two of them. Then, her eyes darted around and she quickly put on a troubled expression.

After leaving behind the words "I forgot to buy hot pot base," he turned around and left the house again.

With a bang, only Li Tangyan and Wen Zhaonian remained in the room.

Li Tangyan glanced at the hot pot base at the top of the plastic bag and couldn't help but twitch her lips.

Wen Zhaonian, on the other hand, didn't react much and picked up the two bags first.

He glanced at Li Tangyan again before brushing past her, his voice slightly lowered: "Go wash the vegetables first?"

"Ah—oh." Li Tangyan came back to her senses, then looked at the figure that had already walked towards the kitchen, touched her nose, and quickly followed after him.

The kitchen was quiet except for the sound of water being poured into the vegetables from fingertips.

Li Tangyan stood quietly to the side, assisting Wen Zhaonian. She was somewhat distracted, so much so that she didn't even realize when the tip of the knife was about to cut her finger.

By the time she realized what was happening, Wen Zhaonian had already pulled the knife out of her hand.

The free hand then grabbed her wrist and switched their positions.

The moment he let go, his well-defined knuckles pressed down on the vegetables that weren't yet chopped and quickly finished off the rest.

He lowered his eyes, his gaze not falling on Li Tangyan.

But what he said made her ears burn: "These vegetables are growing well enough, they don't need any more fertilizer."
