After Wen Zhaonian hung up the phone, he looked up and met Zheng Chuan's smiling eyes.
He raised his lips in a smile, revealing a shallow dimple on his cheek: "Did I come at the wrong time, Attorney Wen?"
Wen Zhaonian lifted his eyelids, and the next second, he crumpled the manuscript paper in his hand into a ball and threw it directly at Zheng Chuanyi.
Hearing the man feign two "ouches," Wen Zhaonian simply ignored him.
He lifted his eyelids slightly, his gaze falling on Zheng Chuanyi's face.
A moment later, a cryptic smile appeared on his lips: "If only you talked less."
"It won't arouse suspicion that I have ulterior motives."
"...I advise you to be kind."
During the few days Zheng Chuan returned home for vacation, his family introduced him to a potential partner.
Zheng Chuanyi wasn't particularly opposed to this matter to begin with.
In addition, the woman is good in every way, but she has a somewhat cold beauty look.
So Zheng Chuanyi thought he should be more enthusiastic, but he ended up being too enthusiastic.
In the end, the girl just silently raised her head and glanced at that smiling face.
Youyou said, "Sorry, I don't buy insurance."
Meeting Wen Zhaonian's teasing gaze, Zheng Chuanyi seemed to recall the embarrassing situation at the time, and the smile on his face instantly froze.
Then, as if venting his anger, he prepared to throw the crumpled paper back.
Wen Zhaonian dodged to the side, easily avoiding what he threw back.
As he bent down to pick up the crumpled paper that had rolled to the ground and threw it into the trash can, he heard Zheng Chuanyi let out two more unwilling howls behind him.
After a while, Zheng Chuanyi finally remembered the purpose of his visit.
Zheng Chuan spread out a document he had just brought in front of Wen Zhaonian.
He flicked his index finger at a certain spot.
His voice was low, and even the frivolity on his face had lessened a bit: "Look at this, it should come in handy during the first trial."
Wen Zhaonian looked in the direction he was pointing, and when he saw the interrogation record on it, he seemed to remember something.
Soon, his eyes darkened, and his voice became deeper as he looked at Zheng Chuanyi.
"Speaking of which, there's someone you could look into as well."
*
The next day, due to a flight delay, it was already past 9 p.m. when Li Tangyan got off the plane and dragged her suitcase home.
The surrounding area was brightly lit, and on the way back, you could see small stalls on both sides of the street from time to time.
The slightly spicy aroma of grilled skewers wafted through the night air with the breeze.
It made her stomach, which had just been filled with food, feel hungry again.
After a while, as Li Tangyan turned into the alley, the noise in the distance seemed to have subsided considerably.
The moonlight shone down, and the shadows of the willow trees were slanted and reflected onto the wall.
Li Tangyan continued walking inside, pulling her suitcase. The wheels under the suitcase made a dull sound as they moved and scraped against the ground.
Li Tangyan held her phone in her other hand, and the sound of the call became much clearer in the slightly quieter environment.
"I know, I'm almost home. I'll be able to organize the information and send it to you before tomorrow."
The words had barely left his lips when the shadow on the wall shifted, accompanied by a rustling sound that reached his ears.
Li Tangyan paused in her steps when she looked up and saw a figure not far away.
The sound of the rollers scraping the ground stopped abruptly.
At the same time, the person on the other end also looked over as if they had heard the commotion.
As their eyes met, the sound from the other end of the receiver seemed to become blurred.
Everything around seemed to have been paused, and only the half-hidden figure could be seen slowly walking away from this side.
Li Tangyan was still a little confused when Wen Zhaonian took the suitcase from her: "Why did you come here?"
What do you think?
Under the moonlight, Wen Zhaonian seemed to be coated with a soft glow.
His gaze fell upon her, his dark eyes seeming to swirle with unreadable emotions.
His voice was slightly deep, carrying a hint of tenderness in the quiet environment.
The two weren't very close, but Wen Zhaonian's sudden question sounded like a whisper close to the ear.
The tips of my ears turned red almost immediately after each word was spoken.
Li Tangyan unconsciously pinched her earlobe, shrank her neck, and buried her chin in her brown scarf to avoid his gaze.
His head was slightly lowered, with only the back of his head showing to Wen Zhaonian.
On the other side, Wen Zhaonian's gaze fell on her, and he saw that her eyelashes fluttered twice as she lowered her eyes.
Like a butterfly wing lying down, a shadow fell upon it.
Without realizing it, the knuckles of the fingers gripping the suitcase handle curled slightly and rubbed together gently.
His thin lips curved into a slight smile, his eyes filled with understanding.
For the rest of the time, the two walked side by side.
The faint light following the direction of the streetlights stretched their shadows longer and longer until they overlapped at the corner.
Downstairs in the residential building, Li Tangyan's lowered eyes unconsciously fell on the suitcase still in Wen Zhaonian's hands.
I wanted to ask for it back, but I felt that asking for it back directly would make me seem like a heartless woman who uses and discards people.
She hesitated for a moment, then her eyelashes trembled.
When she spoke again, her tone was tentative: "Your suitcase must be quite heavy, give it to me. Are you hungry? How about I treat you to something to eat?"
"I am a little hungry."
"Then I won't keep you."
“…”
To be honest, Li Tangyan didn't really think he would agree before she asked, so she didn't feel too guilty when she asked.
No sooner had she asked than two completely contradictory statements rang out at the same time.
