Chapter 55 Beef Jerky

On the day of the interview, in order not to delay the rest of the schedule, the final interview location was still Wen Zhaonian's law firm.

In order to train new talent, Li Tangyan, at Xiao Yi's request, brought another girl, Zhang Mian, along with her.

"I'm going to take this call. During your break, you can try to read the manuscript yourself, or you can go over it with Wen Zhaonian."

Li Tangyan, holding her phone, patted Zhang Mian's shoulder and whispered before leaving.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Mian glanced at Wen Zhaonian, who stood a doorway away with a cool and aloof demeanor, and hesitated somewhat: "I... I'm not quite sure."

After saying that, she turned back to look at her, her cheeks slightly flushed: "Sister Chestnut, how about I wait until you come back before I start learning from you?"

“Zhang Mian, being too thin-skinned will be a disadvantage in this industry,” Li Tangyan said with a smile.

He then gently pinched her cheek, his voice reassuring and easy: "Don't worry, he'll cooperate."

If they don't cooperate, then all her free labor of the past two weeks will have been wasted.

After saying that, hearing the phone ring and stop, Li Tangyan didn't say anything more. She patted her shoulder and then turned and walked out the door.

Zhao Ju happened to be going that way today, so he brought along the things he had said he would give her earlier.

As soon as Li Tangyan stepped out the door, she saw Zhao Ju standing next to the car.

She walked quickly to Zhao Ju, a slight smile playing on her lips: "Thank you for your trouble."

"Of course." Zhao Ju patted her hair, then handed the two bags in the car to Li Tangyan: "They're all food. If you can't finish them all by yourself, you can share them with your colleagues and friends."

"Okay, I understand."

As she spoke, Li Tangyan took a small packet of beef jerky from the bag, raised her hand, and pretended to stuff it into his mouth: "Then consider this a thank-you gift and travel expenses."

Li Tangyan smiled, her eyes gleaming with a hint of slyness.

Her tantrum reminded Zhao Ju more and more of the carefree and untroubled days when her parents hadn't started having conflicts since she was a child.

Thinking of this, he tightened his grip a little more, his voice still carrying a smile: "Then I really thank you."

Because of the limited rest time, Li Tangyan couldn't stay out for too long, so after chatting with Zhao Ju for a few more minutes, she picked up the two bags in her hands and ran back.

Once she got back, someone quickly noticed the extra thing in her hand.

Li Tangyan was already quite familiar with the people at the law firm, so Zhou Sui and the others weren't reserved at all.

He immediately came over and asked, "How come you have two extra bags of stuff after just one trip out? What are they?"

"Stop pretending. You saw what it was, didn't you?" Li Tangyan scolded with a laugh, but without hesitation, she placed one of the bags on the table: "This bag is for you. I'll go and take care of the interview first."

After saying that, Li Tangyan let them yell behind her for a while, picked up the notebook she had just put aside, and walked towards Wen Zhaonian's office.

Zhang Mian was no longer at the door, and through the half-open office door, Li Tangyan could hear the indistinct conversation and guessed that the two were probably going over the manuscript.

So, as soon as he stopped, he pushed open the slightly ajar office door and walked inside.

At the same time, the muffled sound became clearer as she pushed the door open.

Wen Zhaonian's clear voice, mixed with Zhang Mian's words which were tinged with expectation, soon reached Li Tangyan's ears, instantly causing her to tighten her grip on the pen.

—Really? That makes me quite curious about Attorney Wen's ex.

—What kind of person do you think she is?

—Her...

Wen Zhaonian had his back to the window, where the bright sunshine shone on him.

The moment Wen Zhaonian spoke, he raised his eyelids and his dark eyes fell directly on Li Tangyan.

The voice was low and slow, its sound like a tremor spreading through the heart as if a string had been plucked: "Little liar."

"..."

"What?" Zhang Mian was clearly taken aback and immediately froze for a moment.

However, before she could finish speaking, she was interrupted by Li Tangyan.

She walked over slowly, her soft voice carrying a hint of unspoken heaviness: "I'll do it."

The interview wasn't long, but it still took almost half an hour.

When Li Tangyan and Zhang Mian came out again, her eyebrows were slightly furrowed.

The next second, he pulled Zhang Mian aside, his face looking somewhat serious: "I remember the original manuscript didn't involve any issues related to private life, right?"

Zhang Mian rarely saw Li Tangyan so serious, and the tips of her ears instantly turned red.

With her eyes lowered, she began to stammer as she spoke.

"When I went in, he seemed to be in a bad mood, so I thought I'd try to lighten the mood by asking him some other questions. But as I talked to that face..."

The topic has gone off track.

Knowing she had made a mistake, Zhang Mian quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I know Editor Xiao asked me to come with you to learn, but I got distracted. I..."

Seeing the slight panic on Zhang Mian's still somewhat immature face, he sighed silently before comforting her, "I'm not blaming you, I just want to remind you to be more careful next time."

"After all, we're here to conduct an interview, not to gossip. We should avoid bringing up irrelevant questions if possible. You know, not everyone is willing to spend the time they've painstakingly saved up on having their privacy invaded."

"I see."

As the two were talking, the office door behind them was pushed open again.

When Li Tangyan turned around, she met Wen Zhaonian's gaze, which was also looking at her.

Seeing that the two still had things to say, Zhang Mian slipped away to the other side first.
