Chapter 38 Do you want to come home with me to meet my parents?

The initial unease I felt upon hearing Zhou Qi's words instantly dissipated.

The next second, a hand half-hidden in his sleeve quietly grabbed the corner of his clothes.

Li Tangyan's movements weren't very strong, but Wen Zhaonian still noticed her little action.

In the instant she turned her head, she saw that the person was still pretending not to know with their eyes half-lowered. After a while, the corner of her eye had already lifted up slightly, almost imperceptibly.

On the other side, Zhou Qi didn't notice the two's subtle movements. Seeing that Wen Zhaonian didn't speak, he quickly tapped the table again, his eyes filled with doubt: "Ah Zhao?"

The deep sound was particularly clear in the quiet living room.

Wen Zhaonian withdrew his gaze, and only then did he deign to look at Zhou Qi and open his lips: "No."

"?"

Upon hearing this, Zhou Qi couldn't help but frown.

However, before he could speak again, Wen Zhaonian suddenly curled his lips into a smile, his clear and melodious voice replacing the previous knock:

"We have a grudge."

"And we have no intention of settling this privately."

When they left the villa area, Li Tangyan could still remember the expression she and Wen Zhaonian saw on Zhou Qi's face when they left.

As the car moved at a steady speed, the taillights of the cars passing by were still on.

The dim red light shone through the car window, illuminating the snowflakes falling from the sky.

Li Tangyan glanced at Wen Zhaonian, and saw that his eyebrows and eyes became even clearer under the light.

The ten fingers hanging down on the knees are interlaced and pressed together.

After a while, as the sound of a car horn rang out, her voice, muffled by the honking, asked, "So you agreed to take Zhou Yong's case?"

"Otherwise what?"

Wen Zhaonian turned and glanced at her, his dark eyes seeming to hold starlight in the light.

Li Tangyan's face flushed under his gaze. As she looked away, her curled eyelashes trembled slightly. "Because you have a grudge against him?"

"How come I've never heard of this before?"

"Does he owe you money, or did he steal your boyfriend?"

Li Tang spoke too quickly and became somewhat incoherent.

But actually, her last sentence meant that Zhou Yong had run away with Shao Huan.

However, no sooner had she finished speaking than a soft laugh echoed through the quiet carriage.

She couldn't help but turn around, somewhat puzzled.

The next second, he narrowed his eyes slightly, a hint of amusement playing on his lips: "You're asking so many questions at once, which one are you going to make me answer first?"

"..."

The wind and snow outside the window grew heavier and heavier, obscuring the road as if a thin layer of fog had risen.

Li Tangyan gave a soft hum, then habitually turned to the side, trying to shrink away to the other side.

However, as soon as he touched the window, the coolness from the window made him sit up straight again.

She tilted her head and looked out the window at the street flashing by; the world seemed to quiet down for a moment.

She didn't know how much time had passed, but just as she was about to fall asleep with her eyelids drooping, a faint scent of soap filled the air.

Wen Zhaonian's voice suddenly rose in a soft, lazy tone: "Intimidating family members during the reunion season."

"Of course we have a grudge, don't we?"

*

Even after Wen Zhaonian escorted her downstairs, a thin blush still lingered on Li Tangyan's cheeks, which were half-buried in her scarf.

Wen Zhaonian stood opposite her, his tall figure blocking all the light from the streetlights.

As the snowflakes fell, they were instantly covered by a shallow footprint.

Wen Zhaonian's words kept replaying in her mind, making it difficult for the lingering heat on her face to subside.

I wanted to say something, but in the end, I swallowed it all back.

When she spoke again, her tone was slightly more polite: "Thank you for bringing me back. Good luck on the day of the court hearing."

As she spoke, her fingertips, half-hidden in her sleeve, curled slightly before she prepared to leave.

Upon hearing this, he lazily lifted his eyelids, and then his gaze fell precisely on her.

The moment Li Tangyan turned around, the scarf wrapped around her back was gently tugged.

At the same time, the cool fingertips inadvertently brushed against the skin on the back of my neck.

It made me instinctively shrink my neck.

As I turned around, a night breeze blew by my side, stirring up the fallen snow on the ground, which then mingled with the fine dust particles under the sunlight and fell back down.

Under his gaze, he raised his hand and, with a flick of his fingers, gently slipped into the scarf Li Tangyan was wearing to straighten it again.

The movements were slow and gentle, as if trying to stretch out the time in this snowy night indefinitely.

A moment later, Wen Zhaonian withdrew his hand.

Seeing the person frozen in place with a dazed expression, he raised an eyebrow and spoke in a clear, grainy voice.

"Porridge".

"Would you like to come home with me to meet my parents?"

*

—Porridge.

—Would you like to come home with me to meet my parents?

When I woke up from my dream, it was already broad daylight outside.

Li Tangyan looked at the snow covering the withered trumpet creeper vines outside the window, and her eyes flashed.

In the blink of an eye, her already messy hair was ruffled and rubbed even more.

After calming down, Li Tangyan finally lifted the blanket covering her head.

Her eyelashes trembled, and as she lowered her eyes, she let out a soft sigh.

Wen Zhaonian's question that day never received an answer in the end.

There is no other reason.

As soon as Wen Zhaonian finished speaking, Li Tangyan felt a slight tremor in her heart, and the ensuing panic made her act faster than she thought and dodge Wen Zhaonian.

Then he ran into the building without looking back.

When the two met again the next day, although Li Tangyan was already prepared for Wen Zhaonian to confront her and demand an explanation, Wen Zhaonian did not show the slightest dissatisfaction.
