Chapter 14 Mission

Doctor Ji sat up abruptly, snatched the picture book and flipped through it a few times. Zu An, who was close by, noticed that some ragged young women were vaguely visible in the pictures.

“This is a good one,” Doctor Ji said, quickly hiding the picture book inside his clothes. He patted the man on the shoulder with a look of approval, “Go inside, I’ll treat you in a bit.”

Is this even possible?

Zu'an stared in disbelief, thinking, "I have books like 'Young Woman Bai X,' 'Chronicles of XX,' and 'Transforming into a Dragon Upon Encountering Wind and Cloud'... I wonder if they'll work. It's a pity I can't draw; otherwise, I could just make one up as a gift for him."

"Why was he allowed in?" The others, unaware of the situation, immediately protested.

Doctor Ji snorted with a straight face: "Can't I just like him? You can go in if you can't come up with the consultation fee, but then you can go and complete your mission."

"But this task is too difficult; you're deliberately making things difficult for people," someone exclaimed.

Zuan then noticed a sign hanging at the door that read: Today's task: This divine physician will be refining the Qi Transformation Pill, which requires ten Fierce Jackal Dog Treasures as medicine.

He had heard of "dog treasure" before; it's a stone-like thing that grows in a dog's stomach. It's mostly spherical or oval-shaped, with a grayish-white or grayish-black surface, and is said to have the functions of relieving wind-cold, clearing stagnation, and detoxifying.

But what exactly is this fierce jackal? Is it a kind of jackal?

Hearing everyone's complaints, Doctor Ji glanced at them with a look that said, "If it weren't difficult, why would I be sending them on missions?"

The others immediately became anxious and started talking all at once:

“But each of the fierce jackals has at least the strength of a second-rank jackal, and the leader may even be a third-rank jackal.”

"What's even more troublesome is that they often come in groups, ranging from dozens to hundreds. For ordinary people, going there would be suicide."

"Moreover, dog testicles are extremely rare; even ten fierce jackals might not be able to find just one."

...

"Shut up!" Doctor Ji glared at the crowd. "It's not that the Fierce Jackal is too strong, it's that you're all too weak. If you were all at the fourth rank, completing this mission would be a piece of cake."

The crowd cursed inwardly and began to shout, "A cultivator who has reached the fourth rank can be the lord of a small town. How can we compare to them?"

Zuan observed coldly and realized from their conversation that most of the cultivators remaining in the arena were at the second rank, and there seemed to be no third rank cultivators at all. In that case, he wasn't weak after all.

"Take this task if you want, or get lost. I'm not forcing you to do it." Doctor Ji said impatiently. "Don't block my doorway from doing business. Get out, get out."

Zuan couldn't help but pull Cheng Shouping aside and ask, "Isn't this guy afraid of getting beaten up for being so arrogant?"

Cheng Shouping was startled and made a shushing gesture. He pulled him aside to a quiet place before saying, "Doctor Ji's strength is unfathomable. A few years ago, some people couldn't resist trying to force themselves on him, but guess what happened?"

"You were beaten out?" Zu An asked, stunned by his serious tone.

Cheng Shouping gave him a look that said, "You still lack imagination." He continued, "The grass on their graves is already very tall now."

"That's ruthless." Zu An couldn't help but stroke his chin. "Isn't the government doing anything about it?"

Cheng Shouping explained, "As a divine physician, Doctor Ji has benefited countless powerful individuals over the years. Even the city lord treats him with utmost respect. In addition, those people were the ones who committed the crime first, so this matter was naturally left unresolved."

Zuan was somewhat unwilling: "Is the mission really impossible to complete?"

“Of course,” Cheng Shouping said, as if he was used to it. “Those with low strength are not capable of completing the task, and those with high strength do not need to complete the task. They can just pay the consultation fee directly. In previous years, people in the city had a lot of complaints about his expensive consultation fee, so he deliberately designed some impossible tasks to shut up the gossip.”

"No wonder!" Zu'an suddenly realized that the guy surnamed Ji had designed the mission to be so difficult, he never intended for anyone to complete it.

Wait a minute, he suddenly realized something, glanced at Cheng Shouping beside him, and thought, "That bastard knows I can't complete this task, yet he still brought me here. He probably just wants to see that Miss Ji."

Thinking of this, he said with a dark face, "You go back to the Chu residence first, I'll wander around by myself for a while." Since it concerned his lifelong happiness, he had to try, no matter how difficult the task. After all, he had a dagger that guaranteed death and a paralyzing poison bottle; if he was careful, he might actually have a chance to complete it.

Of course, all of this had to be kept from the Chu family. After all, he was still considered a good-for-nothing by them, and the Chu family had someone who wanted him dead. If they knew that he had now achieved success in his cultivation, their next killing move would be even more intense.

Remember this one word: survival. Survival is the key to success!

Cheng Shouping was taken aback: "Young master, you wouldn't be thinking of doing that mission, would you?"

Zu An wondered if he had made it that obvious. Before he could explain, Cheng Shouping hurriedly said, "Young Master, do you know why that jackal is called the Fierce Black Jackal?"
