"What do you mean by 'things that shouldn't be said'?" Zuan tilted his head to look at her.
Qin Wanru's breath caught in her throat, and it took her a long time to catch her breath: "You're not so stupid that you don't even know this, are you?"
Zu An shrugged: "Second Uncle and Third Uncle are both Chu Yan's uncles, can't we tell them?"
"You said it?" Qin Wanru's phoenix eyes widened.
"I didn't say anything, I was just curious why we couldn't tell them," Zu An replied. He wanted to take this opportunity to see what was going on inside the Chu family.
"That's good," Qin Wanru's expression softened a bit. "This matter concerns the future of the Chu family, so it naturally cannot be easily revealed."
Thinking that he would inevitably come into contact with the second and third wives while living under the same roof, she added, "Although they are Chu Yan's uncles, they are not from the same branch of the family. Everyone has their own plans, so we still need to be a little wary."
Zuan nodded: "Yes."
It seems that Chu Zhongtian's lineage and the second and third branches are only superficially harmonious but not truly at odds. However, this is normal. In large families, there are all kinds of conflicts of interest, and even brothers will turn against each other, let alone Chu Tiesheng, Chu Yuepo, and Chu Zhongtian, who are only cousins.
Before they knew it, the two had arrived at Chu Chuyan's room, with the butler Hong Zhong standing guard at the door.
When Hong Zhong saw Qin Wanru bring Zu An, he looked surprised, but the surprise vanished in an instant as he stepped aside to let them in.
The two entered the bedroom. Chu Zhongtian was sitting in the distance with a solemn expression, while Ji Dengtu was outside the screen. Three thin threads connected his fingers to Chu Chuyan's wrist. He was stroking his beard and taking her pulse with his eyes closed.
Bao Youlu stood aside, looking at him with envy. He had never learned this method of diagnosing pulses by suspending a thread in his entire life. He truly deserved to be recognized as a divine doctor.
Chu Huanzhao sat behind the screen by her sister's bed, looking nervous. Although Zu An had told her yesterday that everything was alright, she still felt uneasy.
Upon noticing the two enter, Chu Zhongtian merely nodded slightly, then seemed lost in thought.
Ji Dengtu turned around and winked at Qin Wanru, looking frivolous.
Qin Wanru frowned slightly, but did not react. Instead, she silently sat down next to Chu Zhongtian and gently took his hand.
Witnessing this, Ji Dengtu curled his lip, his expression clearly showing displeasure.
Zu An watched coldly. It seemed that the rumors about Ji Dengtu pursuing Qin Wanru in his youth were true, but Qin Wanru was devoted to Chu Zhongtian.
Come to think of it, Chu Zhongtian is handsome and a duke, making him an extremely eligible bachelor in any world. Ji Dengtu, while not bad-looking, is too slovenly and is just a doctor, so he can't compare to a duke.
Isn't it obvious who the woman will choose?
Zu An sighed inwardly. A beautiful wife is sure to make people envious. Chu Tiesheng before, Ji Dengtu now, and Shi Lezhi's eyes yesterday—he had discovered so many people who were eyeing her in such a short time.
My dear father-in-law, be careful, things might get out of hand!
Just then, Ji Dengtu retrieved the three silk threads, and the Chu family members hurriedly stood up and asked, "Dr. Ji, how is it?"
Ji Dengtu replied, "I just examined Miss Chu's pulse. Although the cold has entered her body and she appears to be terminally ill, I can vaguely sense a vital energy. It's not as exaggerated as you previously described."
Watching him speak, one could see a radiance emanating from him. Zu'an couldn't help but sigh, "This guy is usually so carefree, but when it comes to his professional field, his demeanor is completely different."
He must have used this to fool Ji Xiaoxi's mother back then, otherwise, given his usual demeanor, it's hard to imagine that a woman who could give birth to such a beautiful and lovely daughter as Ji Xiaoxi would be interested in him.
Come to think of it, I've never heard Ji Xiaoxi mention her mother before. The last few times I visited their house, I didn't find any woman of the house there, so I don't know what her mother's situation is.
"Is that really true?" Chu Zhongtian jumped up in surprise and delight.
Bao Youlu, standing to the side, also looked doubtful. He knew that he had diagnosed Chu Chuyan yesterday and found her beyond saving, but Ji Dengtu's reputation was too great, so he hesitated and didn't say anything.
Ji Dengtu rolled his eyes at him, annoyed: "Lin Danda, are you doubting my professional abilities?"
When he was called by his old nickname in front of a junior, Chu Zhongtian's face turned bright red. Normally, he would have argued with him, but this time, with his daughter's safety at stake, he had to suppress the urge to retort: "Then how should we treat her?"
“Don’t be too happy yet,” Ji Dengtu said, his expression turning serious. “Your daughter’s condition is quite strange. Although there’s a glimmer of life in her pulse, it’s like a rootless duckweed, as if it could disappear at any moment. The cold energy has invaded her internal organs, and it’s almost impossible to pull it out by external force. Those areas are too fragile. If an outsider uses the slightest improper force, it will cause irreparable damage, and she might even die on the spot.”
Chu Chuyan, behind the screen, had a change of expression. What Ji Dengtu said was exactly the same as what Azu had said last night. Where on earth did that guy learn such amazing medical skills?
"What if we let her use her internal energy to expel the cold energy herself?" Chu Zhongtian asked tentatively. "Chu Yan's cultivation level is already among the best of her peers."
He spoke of this with a face full of pride.
Ji Dengtu sneered: "Lin Danda, what do you know? Chu Chuyan's technique is ice-based, and her energy is also of the ice attribute. Using ice to counter ice will only worsen her injuries and make her die faster."
Despite being sprayed with spittle all over his face, Chu Zhongtian couldn't retaliate, since it was Chu Zhongtian who had come up with the terrible idea.
