Chapter 276 Impotent Rage

Faced with his harsh accusations, Zu An was not provoked, but instead turned to Zheng Dan who was standing to the side.

“Isn’t your young lady here? Of course, she should be in charge of such a big matter. If she wants me to take responsibility, I will; if she doesn’t want me to take responsibility, I won’t. What do you think, Miss Zheng?” Zu An looked at her with a grin.

Zheng Dan blushed slightly. This guy was deliberately trying to take advantage of me, but he still replied, "Young Master Zu is doing everything for official business, so how could he expect you to take responsibility?"

Zuan laughed and said, "It's best that Miss Zheng doesn't need me to take responsibility. It seems we have a pretty good relationship."

Sang Qian frowned and subconsciously adjusted his helmet, feeling that the hat he was wearing today was a little uncomfortable.

"Since Miss has spoken, then please follow me." Hou Yun walked in front and gestured to his men to open the cabin door.

Sang Qian waved his hand, and his soldiers filed in to search the premises.

Zu An also gave a wink, signaling the Chu family members to follow him inside. He no longer trusted Sang Hong's people.

Still feeling uneasy, he followed them inside.

Sang Qian and Zheng Dan exchanged a glance and followed them inside.

The ship's hold was filled with piles of burlap sacks, and the soldiers inspected them rather roughly, sticking knives directly into the sacks and then pulling them out.

Seeing cotton seeds continuously leaking from the sacks, Hou Yun looked pained and hurriedly started to urge everyone on, "Don't make such a mess, everyone. I'll open whichever sack you want to see."

Unfortunately, no one paid him any attention, so he had no choice but to run over to Zu An and say, "Young Master Chu, now that the examination has been done, you should be able to rest assured, right?"

Zuan remained noncommittal, simply pushing him aside and going straight to the bottom floor, where he saw countless sacks piled up together.

He wanted to inspect the bottom layer, but it was simply impossible unless he found someone to unload all the cargo from the ship.

However, he quickly realized that he was still subconsciously using his past life's experiences to think. Now, in the world of cultivation, cultivators are many times stronger than ordinary people.

So he took matters into his own hands and started lifting up the sacks that were piled up in the warehouse, one by one.

The Chu family's guards also rushed over to help, and soon they cleared the three-foot-square pit.

"Young Master Chu, what are you doing!" Hou Yun panicked and rushed over to stop him, but was blocked by Feng Daniu and the others.

Zu An's face was ashen as he jumped out from the bottom, carrying several sacks.

"Why is Steward Hou in such a hurry?" Zu An threw several sacks at his feet.

"Am I in a hurry? I'm not in a hurry at all, hahaha~" Hou Yun laughed a few times, but anyone could see the fine sweat on his forehead.

Zu An glanced at Zheng Dan and Sang Qian, and seeing their solemn expressions, he chuckled inwardly.

He pulled out a knife and stabbed it into the sacks.

A group of people craned their necks to look, and this time it wasn't cotton seeds that flowed out.

However, to Zaun's disappointment, it wasn't white salt at all, but rather yellow sand.

"Why did you put yellow sand in the cargo?" Zu An's heart skipped a beat. His ominous premonition had finally come true, so he wasn't actually that surprised at this moment.

Hou Yun chuckled and said, "My son-in-law has never lifted a finger, so naturally he wouldn't know about our hardships. These are used as ballast stones to protect us from strong winds and waves."

Everyone knows that before Zu An became the son-in-law of the Chu family, he was just a penniless man on the street, while Hou Yun seems to have been living a life of luxury all these years. So his words were full of sarcasm, and everyone could hear it.

Zuan narrowed his eyes slightly. This guy is using the hermaphrodite trick on me, huh!

He didn't bother with any more words and quickly checked the other sacks again. Seeing that most of them were filled with yellow sand, he couldn't help but sneer, "Do we really need so much sand to weigh down the boat?"

Hou Yun took out a handkerchief and wiped the fine sweat from his forehead: "It's not illegal for us to bring more yellow sand on the boat, is it?"

Zuan pointed to the full cargo and said, "If nothing unexpected happens, most of the cargo on this ship should be yellow sand, right? Is this how the Zheng family does business?"

He looked at Zheng Dan when he said his last words.

Zheng Dan frowned slightly; such behavior was indeed somewhat suspicious.

"This...this..." Hou Yun kept wiping his sweat, clearly unable to think of any reason to explain.

"Guards, take him away and interrogate him thoroughly!" Zu An ordered directly.

Sang Qian stepped forward: "I'm afraid this is inappropriate. The Chu family does not have law enforcement authority. Theoretically, this person should be handed over to our anti-smuggling smuggling department."

Zuan said coldly, "Today was supposed to be a sure thing, but when we went to the anti-smuggling camp, those salt smugglers got wind of it beforehand and switched the goods. It's probably not appropriate to give them to the anti-smuggling camp now, is it?"

Sang Qian was furious: "Are you saying I leaked the information?"

Anger from Sang Qian +213!

Zu An replied calmly, "I didn't say that General Sang leaked the information. It's just that there are many people involved in the anti-smuggling operation, and there might be an inside agent among the salt smugglers. We have to be careful."

"Nonsense! You're slandering us, the hardworking soldiers of the river defense battalion!" Sang Qian glared at him fiercely.

The other soldiers from the river defense battalion also glared at each other, placing their hands on the hilts of their swords.

Anger level of Soldier A from the River Defense Battalion increased by 66!

Anger level of Soldier B from the River Defense Battalion +66!

Anger level of Soldier C from the River Defense Battalion increased by 66!

...

The Chu family guards surrounded them closely, each looking nervously at the soldiers around them.
