Chapter 29 Aunt and Best Friend

Ji Xiaoxi stuck out her tongue and suddenly noticed the picture book left on the old man's chair. Out of curiosity, she went over and picked it up. She had only turned one page when her face turned red. She hurriedly chased after him and said, "Daddy, why do you always look at these messy things? If Auntie sees them, she'll argue with you again."

Ji Dengtu then realized he had dropped something and hurriedly ran back to snatch it away: "Hmph, your mother and I separated a long time ago, so your aunt can't control me at all."

Ji Xiaoxi stomped her foot: "It's because you're always like this that Auntie doesn't come here anymore."

"Pah, I'm perfectly happy on my own right now, why would I need her to come over?" Ji Dengtu waved his hand, clearly quite impatient with the topic. "You should get some rest, you have to go back to school tomorrow, then you can complain to your aunt however you want."

After saying that, he slammed the door shut behind him and went back to his room alone.

On the other side, Zu'an had just returned to the Chu family when he saw a message coming from the backstage:

Received 345 anger points from Ji Dengtu!

Zu An couldn't help but laugh. It seemed he had discovered that he had sold Gou Bao to Ji Xiaoxi. Come to think of it, he felt quite embarrassed about cheating that kind-hearted girl.

Back inside, I washed my face and hands with a basin of water. Just as I was about to start the lottery ceremony, an old man walked in. His clothes were neat and tidy, without a single wrinkle. Although his hair was a little gray, it was combed neatly, showing his meticulous character.

Zu An was taken aback. He vaguely remembered that the person in front of him was Hong Zhong, the steward of the Chu family. He was a loyal and dutiful man and a person whom the head of the Chu family trusted very much.

"Is there something you need?" Zuan asked.

Hong Zhong glanced at him before saying, "As per the master's previous instructions, the young master will go to the school after his injuries heal. Shouping will take you there early tomorrow morning. Please prepare in advance."

Zuan was taken aback: "My injury hasn't healed yet, ouch, it hurts so much..." What a joke, he had a lot of things to do, how could he have time to study.

Hong Zhong said calmly, "Young master, there's no need to pretend. You went out for a day of sightseeing today, how could you look injured? There's no need to say anything more now. Tomorrow, someone will escort you to the academy."

Zu An was wondering how he knew when he suddenly saw Cheng Shouping looking away. He was furious. This guy kept saying he would keep his mouth shut, but he betrayed me as soon as he got back.

Hong Zhong gave a few more instructions and then turned and left, leaving Zu An and Cheng Shouping staring at each other.

"What happened to keeping your mouth shut?" Zu An cracked his knuckles as he grinned maliciously at Cheng Shouping.

Cheng Shouping immediately ran over to massage his back, her face full of fawning smiles: "It's because the steward came to check on the young master's injuries and found that the young master was not there, so he questioned me. What could I do? I didn't want to either."

Zuan chuckled coldly: "But what did you promise me before?"

Cheng Shouping hurriedly said, "Young master, I didn't tell you anything about your visit to Doctor Ji. No matter how the steward tried to coerce or entice me, I didn't betray you."

Zuan chuckled: "Then, according to your logic, I should thank you."

“Actually, I’m not that great,” Cheng Shouping rubbed his fingers together, looking embarrassed. “Of course, if the young master really wants to reward me, it’s not impossible…”

Zuan slapped him, then laughed angrily, "Do you think I'm praising you?"

Cheng Shouping straightened her two buns with a wronged expression and said with a hint of resentment, "Young master, could you please not hit my head? I told you before that these buns are very difficult to comb."

"Don't talk to me like that," Zuan said, feeling a chill. "By the way, where did my wife go?" She's been gone all day. He wonders if she misses him.

"Who is your wife?" Cheng Shouping blinked.

Zuan: "..."

Cheng Shouping suddenly realized: "Young Master, you mean the eldest young lady? She took Miss Pei out for a trip during the day, and when she came back, she found out that there were some problems with the family business, so she hurriedly went out to deal with them. The eldest young lady is really hardworking. She supports half of this family, and we can't do anything without her. I wish she were a man."

Zuan was speechless: "Are you asking for trouble? If she were a man, why would I go there?"

"Young master, that's not what I meant," Cheng Shouping hurriedly poured him tea and apologized.

Zu An always felt an urge to punch him when he saw him like this, and he roughly understood why he had fallen from being someone close to Chu Zhongtian to working in the kitchen: "By the way, what's the deal with that Miss Pei?"

He still remembered this woman; she had almost killed him with just a few words in the ancestral hall. But for some reason, he found it hard to hate her. It's no wonder he didn't hold grudges; the hatred was simply too great.

"Oh~ Young master, you're so naughty, still thinking about Miss Pei's best friend," Cheng Shouping winked and deliberately drew out his words, "But Miss Pei is indeed very beautiful. When she first arrived, all the men in our manor couldn't take their eyes off her. Young master, I'm rooting for you~"

Zuan couldn't help but say, "It's a miracle you weren't sent to the Imperial Household Department by the Chu family."

Cheng Shouping's smile froze: "Young Master, don't scare me."

Zuan was too lazy to waste words with him: "Who asked you if she's pretty or not? I want to know information about her."

“I heard that Miss Pei is from the Pei family of Hedong, a great family with a history of thousands of years, even more prestigious than our Chu family. She has a very good relationship with our young lady and is here at Mingyue Academy for further studies,” Cheng Shouping replied.

Zu An was taken aback: "She's here to study too?" This Chu family's private school even accepts outsiders. But considering her relationship with Chu Chuyan, he understood.
