Chapter 456 Underground Danger

King Liang and Liu Yao were also notified and rushed out to check. They looked at the black wave in the distance with suspicion, and suddenly their expressions changed: "It's the rebels! Prepare for battle!"

They didn't understand why they had come into contact with the rebels in this place. Although this place was not too far from Lushui County, it was not close either, with other prefectures and counties in between. How did this rebel army suddenly appear here?

Were all the guards in those prefectures and counties along the way dead?

Liu Yao instinctively wanted to retreat, but his subordinate generals stopped him: "General Wei, you can't retreat now. The rebels have already charged over, and there are many cavalry among them. You can't escape now. Instead, your formation will collapse and you will have no power to resist, so they can easily cut you down from behind."

“That’s right. We should form a battle formation to meet the enemy. Although these rebels are numerous, their individual strength is far inferior to our elite Imperial Guards. As long as we can hold out for a while, the nearby prefectures and counties will receive the news and send troops to support us. Then we will be safe, and we might even be able to achieve something extraordinary.”

The Imperial Guards were, after all, the most elite troops in the entire empire, and there were many insightful people among them, so they hurriedly tried to dissuade them.

Liu Yao was also somewhat at a loss, and hurriedly asked the Prince of Liang beside him, "Your Highness, what do you think we should do?"

King Liang, being a Grandmaster, remained calm and said, "Then let's form ranks and meet the enemy!"

"Form ranks! Form ranks!" Liu Yao finally came to his senses and hurriedly rode his horse around shouting.

The imperial guards quickly moved their carts, horses, and supplies to the outer perimeter, then lined up in formation, holding shields and spears, aiming at the direction from which the rebels were charging.

King Liang flew into the air and quickly condensed two orbs of light in his hands, which he then hurled at the oncoming rebels.

Boom! Boom!

Two loud explosions rang out, and the charging rebels were thrown into disarray. However, the rebels were numerous, and such a small setback could not stop their advance.

King Liang quickly condensed two more orbs of light and slammed them down again. After slamming them down, he didn't stop and condensed two more orbs of light to bombard the enemy.

The rebels finally started to riot, partly because they were intimidated by the power of the exploding orbs, and partly because the previous explosions had caused their comrades to fall over, with many unable to stop during their charge, resulting in more and more people falling.

Zu'an was astonished as he watched from inside the prison cart. The King of Liang was like a bomber, attacking ground troops with air power. He could win no matter what.

Just then, a thin layer of transparent shields appeared in mid-air from the rebel army. They clearly had their own formations. Although they didn't appear as thick and heavy as the shields of the Chu family's red-robed army, they had the advantage of numbers and strength, and they managed to withstand the attack from the King of Liang.

Seeing this, Liu Yao snorted coldly, drew his waist knife, and stepped forward to help. He swung a forty-meter-long Yuan Qi sword directly at the rebels' shields and armor. With the addition of Liang Wang's bombardment, the rebels' shields and armor quickly began to teeter on the brink of collapse.

Just then, a man rushed out from the rebel ranks and flew directly into the air.

With a single punch, he shattered Liu Yao's Yuan Qi longsword and simultaneously blocked Liang Wang's attack.

The two exchanged blows, and both staggered backward.

"Traitor Lu Sanyuan, I didn't expect you to come in person!" King Liang's face was somewhat ugly. Although the two of them had retreated a lot at the same time and seemed to be evenly matched, the fact that the other party had just repelled Liu Yao before exchanging blows with him clearly showed that his strength was above his own.

"Lu Sanyuan?" Upon hearing this name, Zu An was taken aback, clearly not familiar with him.

Sang Hong, standing to the side, explained, "The rebel leader of Lushui County. The imperial court has sent large armies to besiege him several times, but all attempts have ended in failure. Today, I was surprised to see that his cultivation level is so high. No wonder the imperial court's siege efforts have failed."

Zuan vaguely remembered hearing people talk about this person back in Brightmoon City, describing him as a fierce and ruthless demon king who seemed to eat people. But now, the middle-aged man in mid-air had a handsome face and flowing long hair, making him look more like a hermit who lived a life of peace and quiet than a rebel leader.

"The famous King Liang is nothing more than this. If you submit to me today, I may spare your life. Otherwise, this day next year will be your death anniversary." Lu Sanyuan stood in mid-air with his hands behind his back, exuding an inexplicable air of arrogance.

Under the watchful eyes of everyone, King Liang could not afford to lose face, so he braced himself and said, "Hmph, I think today is the day you, this traitor, are beheaded!"

"How dare you!" Lu Sanyuan's face turned cold, and he pounced on him like a roc spreading its wings. As he moved, the wind and clouds behind him changed color, and black energy rolled in, vaguely forming a huge demon head.

King Liang's expression changed, and he immediately waved his hands outwards. Soon, a transparent membrane surrounded him, making him look like an egg.

The two collided quickly, and billowing black energy soon enveloped King Liang.

Liu Yao, who was standing to the side, originally wanted to leave, but he was also surrounded by black energy. It was clear that Lu Sanyuan did not want him to free up his hands to deal with the rebels below.

The three of them started fighting in mid-air. Although Liang Wang and Liu Yao joined forces, Lu Sanyuan was not at a disadvantage at all, and he was the one who was attacking.

As the black mist filled the sky, Liang Wang and Liu Yao could only be seen occasionally, like two small boats in a raging sea, which could be capsized by the waves at any moment.

Zuan couldn't help but remind Huang Huihong, who was standing next to him: "Aren't you going to help? Last time you were all so arrogant about asking for an imperial edict, hurry up and ask for it again to suppress this Lu Sanyuan."

To everyone's surprise, Huang Huihong remained completely unmoved: "King Liang and General Wei can hold on."

Zaun remarked, "I suspect you're betraying your teammates."

Yellow Gray Red: "..."

He snorted and ignored him.
