Chapter 505 In Despair

"Grandpa, what do we do now?" Pei Mianman's usual radiant smile was gone; instead, her face turned deathly pale.

For practitioners, death is not so frightening.

But there are many ways to die. It's one thing to be killed because you're not skilled enough, but to be surrounded and bitten to death by a dense swarm of snakes is really hard to accept.

She now finally understood why there were no wounds on the skeletons she had observed earlier. They had obviously been poisoned by these strange snakes. Their size meant that their teeth wouldn't leave much of a mark on the bones. After poisoning these people, all the snakes would burrow into their corpses and gnaw at the flesh...

The thought of many snakes inside her body, crawling in and out of her eye sockets, sent chills down Pei Mianman's spine.

Zuan's mind raced. They knew they couldn't possibly fight against the dense swarm of strange snakes head-on; they had to find another way.

However, they had already circled the entire pit but had not found an exit.

Thinking about it, it makes sense. This huge pit was obviously designed to kill these people. Not only were the surrounding walls made extremely smooth and hard to prevent climbing, but a seal was also specially placed on it to prevent any survivors from jumping out. How could there possibly be any way out?

Zuan couldn't help but feel a little desperate. How could he have accidentally fallen into this pit?

Wait a minute, there wasn't that seal when we fell down. It can't be the kind of seal that allows entry but not exit, right? It shouldn't be that advanced.

He quickly scanned his surroundings. The walls were all straight, but he was quite certain that he had fallen down a slope, even if it was steep, it was definitely not vertical.

"Azu?" Pei Mianman, who was standing to the side, saw Zu'an standing there in a daze and used black flames to repel the strange snakes that were rushing towards him, while calling out to him.

Zu An snapped out of his daze and hurriedly said to Pei Mianman, "Let's go back quickly."

"Go back? Go back where?" Pei Mianman was a little confused.

Zuan replied, "Go back to where we first fell down; there should be an exit there."

Pei Mianman hurriedly said, "But we just checked, there are only straight, solid walls all around, and there is no exit."

They had just searched for an exit in that area because they couldn't find one. Now they had crossed the distance of several football fields, and if they went back, the entire way would be filled with those strange snakes.

Zuan quickly explained, "What we see is often not the real thing. Maybe there are some mechanisms or illusions around us that make us mistake it for a wall."

Pei Mianman was still puzzled: "But we've checked the surroundings, and there are no traps or mechanisms there."

She was not stupid; on the contrary, she was quite clever. Otherwise, she wouldn't have achieved such outstanding cultivation among her peers at such a young age. Before she left, she even checked the surrounding walls to make sure there were no traps or mechanisms.

Zuan replied, "We only checked the section closest to the ground. What if the mechanism is on the wall in mid-air?"

He pulled Pei Mianman back, slashing at the strange snakes that came close with his sword as he continued to analyze, "Actually, if you think about it carefully, you'll understand the contradiction here. Since there's a seal above, why make the walls so smooth and hard that they're impossible to climb?"

"Huh?" Pei Mianman subconsciously thought that seals were for dealing with experts, while smooth walls were for dealing with ordinary people. But since there was already a seal, designing the walls like this was completely unnecessary.

Zuan quickly said, "We checked before, and there were no signs of them being bound in their previous positions, so they should be able to try to escape at any time. If we put them in here and then seal them, it would be troublesome if they managed to escape during that gap, so it's probably best to seal them first."

"Then there's a problem: if the seal is all set up, how do you let them in? Obviously, there's another passage specifically for sending people in. When they're sent in, they're most likely drugged, so they have no idea that the passage exists."

Pei Mianman immediately raised a question: "If that's the case, we can just drug them and throw them in first, then calmly seal them on top. That way, we won't have to worry about them escaping."

“There are three reasons!” Zuan explained. “First, there are too many skeletons down here. If we were to remove them all at once, the workload would be too great. Also, from what I observed along the way, these skeletons are different. They are not evenly distributed at the bottom of the pit, but rather in groups, maintaining a certain distance from each other. Obviously, these groups do not know each other. When we were running, we accidentally stepped on some skeletons. Some were still very hard, while others were much more powdery. Obviously, the latter had been stored for a longer time.”

"Secondly, if I were the decision-maker, I would never be willing to use such a huge pit as a disposable item. It would definitely be used repeatedly for a long time, which is why the secret passage I just mentioned is possible."

"Third, and most importantly, we were conscious when we fell into the pit and we know that we rolled down a huge slope, which is the basis of my inference."

Pei Mianman's beautiful eyes lit up as she listened. She had been in despair, but after hearing his analysis, she suddenly felt that the future was bright. Although she had not yet seen the secret passage with her own eyes, she was already convinced: "A-Zu, you are really amazing!"

Being praised with such admiration by such a beautiful and sweet-voiced girl, Zu An's heart couldn't help but warm: "I'm already amazing, don't fall in love with me without realizing it."
