Chapter 554 Desperate Situation

Outside Montenegro, the most numerous creatures are zombie-like monsters, who were not human in life but rather beings from some unknown world.

The holes in their bodies revealed their bones, yet they were quite different from the clean skeletons I had seen in the secret realm before. Most of their flesh was still intact, though signs of decay were visible. Their skin seemed to be gone, and they were soaking wet.

Forget about fighting these creatures; you'd be afraid of getting infected just by touching their rotting flesh and juices.

Countless of these zombies piled up like ants and climbed up the city wall. Although each one was slow, their sheer number soon brought them close to the top of the wall.

However, the army in the city seemed to have been prepared, and huge stones rolled down from the city walls, smashing the zombies that had been painstakingly stacked up to collapse.

At the same time, the city wall began to twist, and sharp spikes kept protruding from the wall, skewering the zombies like candied hawthorns. Then the spikes retracted, and the zombies fell down one after another.

These are clearly the methods of earth-elemental cultivators.

Immediately afterwards, a group of water-based cultivators stood on the city wall and unleashed their attacks. A layer of water mist floated on the surface of the city wall, instantly freezing in the frigid weather.

The entire city wall became smooth and slippery, and the clumsy zombies could no longer climb it. Some of those who hadn't managed to retreat in time were frozen inside the wall.

Their corpses, along with the ice, served as armor for the city walls, blocking ranged attacks from other demons.

At this moment, countless dark figures rushed over. They were much faster than the zombies before, and they were the crawlers that Zaun had dealt with before.

Those crawlers have incredibly sharp claws, allowing them to traverse even smooth ice surfaces with ease.

Moreover, they are extremely agile, and even while climbing up, they can still twist their bodies to dodge arrows shot from the city wall.

Dozens of crawlers quickly rushed onto the city wall, but the demon army was already on high alert, and their spears swarmed in. Even though the crawlers were individually very strong, they were quickly killed on the spot by the regular army.

However, there were too many demons. No matter how many died in front, they still charged forward recklessly. The demon army's defenses were repeatedly attacked and gradually became less solid than they had been at the beginning.

There were also many demons in the sky, and all sorts of flying demons tried to cross the city walls and directly enter the city.

The demon race first fired crossbows into the air, followed by a barrage of long-range spells, while many demon experts took flight to meet the enemy.

Unlike humans, who need to reach the Grandmaster level to fly freely in the sky, many demons are born with the ability to fly due to their talent and race.

For example, the Eagle Clan, the Peacock Clan, the Elves... and the Golden Crow Royal Family!

Now, at this critical juncture of life and death, there is no distinction between races; everyone stands shoulder to shoulder to resist the foreign enemy.

But there were too many demons, and many of them could fly. The most troublesome of them were the thin-skinned demons, each of them seemingly only having a skin left. But once they found an opportunity to wrap themselves around a person, they could instantly drain all their life essence.

They had witnessed too many tragic fates of their comrades, who at times didn't even have the chance to commit suicide.

But with the war at this point, everyone knows there's no turning back. Killing one is enough, killing more is a bonus.

The demon army also attempted to counterattack, with various magical beams shooting towards the demon army. Each attack claimed the lives of a group of demons, but there were simply too many demons. As soon as one group died, another group would immediately fill the void.

Moreover, the demons quickly devised a countermeasure: some insect-shaped demons could inflate their armor to shield their companions from ranged attacks from within the city.

The battle raged fiercely in the sky and on the city walls. Suddenly, a commotion arose in the demon camp, and then a large area of the densely packed camp was cleared out as a worm several hundred meters long slowly moved forward on guard.

This worm looks white and plump, much like the caterpillars that you can easily crush on a normal day. However, even the weakest caterpillar, when it grows to the size of a dragon, still exudes a strange sense of oppression.

Moreover, the giant worm had hundreds or even thousands of legs, and the end of each leg seemed to have a painfully distorted human face, making it look particularly gruesome.

At this moment, the giant worm suddenly stood up halfway up its body, wriggling all over as if on guard, its belly becoming extremely swollen, as if something was rising from its abdomen.

The demon clan leaders in Monte City clearly noticed its strange behavior and exclaimed that they should attack it immediately and prevent it from unleashing its attack.

Countless runic crossbows and the radiance of cultivators' spells bombarded the giant worm.

Many iron-clad beetles also flew up from the demon race, spreading their wings to form a huge shield.

However, the attacks of the most elite troops and experts of the demon race were so formidable that almost half of the armored beetles were shot down in a single encounter.

The remaining rays of light continued to attack the giant worm.

As a result, countless fleshy ripples appeared on the giant worm's body, as if it had blocked these attacks with its fat.

However, some green fluid was also oozing from the worm, indicating that it was also injured.

It seemed to be enraged, opening its mouth wide towards the city of Montenegro, with the bulging thing inside its belly reaching its throat.

A stream of green liquid, like a high-pressure water gun, shot rapidly toward the city wall, and the giant worm began to shrink rapidly, as if the spray had consumed all its essence.

The array masters in the demon army hurriedly manipulated the array plates, and soon a huge light shield appeared above Monte City. Although they did not know what the green liquid was, no one wanted to try it.

Almost instantly, the green water jet sprayed onto the light shield of Monte City.
