Chapter 789: Speaking out of integrity

A few days ago, Xie Xiu was lounging on a chair in Xie Daoyun's room on the back mountain of the academy. She had clearly been working too hard on Hei Baizi recently and was taking a break from her busy schedule at her sister's place.

"Sister, I heard that many people have gone to visit our great-grandfather. Why are you still staying here every day?"

Xie Daoyun rolled up her sleeves, revealing a delicate, fair wrist. She was practicing a newly learned complex rune with a calligraphy brush when she heard this, and her hand trembled, almost dripping ink onto the paper.

She quickly calmed down and continued drawing on the paper with her brush: "What if I go to see them? What if I don't?"

Xie Xiu looked up in confusion: "Sister, don't you like him?"

If it were before, Xie Daoyun would have been extremely embarrassed to hear such words and would have given her brother a good beating. But ever since that kiss with Zu An, she felt that many of her actions were like burying her head in the sand, so she simply acquiesced: "So what if he likes me? He's so outstanding, he's never short of women, and they're all prettier and more outstanding than me. One more of me won't make a difference, and one less of me won't make a difference either."

Xie Xiu smiled and said, "Who said that? My sister is so beautiful. She's a famous beauty in Mingyue City. Countless young masters are obsessed with her. Even here at the National Academy, where geniuses abound, she's still one of the best. The students who like you could line up from here all the way to the back of the mountain."

"It's not as exaggerated as you say." Xie Daoyun rolled her eyes at him, almost laughing.

Xie Xiu exclaimed, "What do you mean it's not that exaggerated? Do you know how popular I am in the academy? Everyone either brings me food or helps me with my homework..."

Xie Daoyun said irritably, "Stop messing with those girls. If you don't like them, don't string them along and use them to do your homework. You scumbag!"

"Sister, you've misunderstood. They're all men," Xie Xiu hurriedly explained.

"A man?" Xie Daoyun looked up instantly, forgetting all about writing talismans. She hurriedly put down her pen, grabbed his ear, and pulled him to the window facing the direction of Mingyue City. "It's one thing for you to be playful on ordinary days, but now you're getting more and more outrageous. Our Xie family still needs you to carry on the family line. If our parents find out, they'll be furious."

"Ouch... Huh? What are you talking about?" Xie Xiu finally realized what was happening and quickly broke free. "I said those men who approached me were all after you. They all had bad intentions, so of course I had to teach them a lesson!"

"Huh?" Xie Daoyun hurriedly let go of her younger brother's ear, her expression somewhat embarrassed.

"Actually, a lot of people have written you love letters." Xie Xiu rubbed her ears and grinned.

"Where's the love letter?" Xie Daoyun was taken aback. "How come I've never seen it before?"

"Of course I burned them all. They're all toads trying to eat swan meat. They call me brother, but they actually want to be my brother-in-law. Do you think I'd let that happen?" Xie Xiu snorted. "I'm afraid only my grandfather is good enough to be my brother-in-law."

Xie Daoyun spat out, "Don't talk nonsense. If he hears you, he might think your sister can't get married and has to marry him."

"Don't you want to marry him?" Xie Xiuqi asked.

"I don't want to," Xie Daoyun said coldly, her face stern.

"Do you feel that my grandfather isn't proactive enough towards you? But I think he treats you quite well. This time he promoted my father and also promoted me to a high-ranking official position in the court. Everyone with eyes can see that our Xie family has this honor because of you," Xie Xiu said with a grin.

Xie Daoyun remained silent, picked up her pen again, but her writing was noticeably less calm than before.

"Sister, listen to my advice. It's easier for a woman to pursue a man than for a man to pursue a man. These days, my brother is so busy with his affairs that he doesn't have time to pursue you like an ordinary man. You should take the initiative," Xie Xiu said earnestly.

Xie Daoyun's eyes were slightly red: "Wasn't I proactive enough before? But he hasn't made any move, he's been so distant. Am I supposed to shamelessly keep chasing after him?"

“He’s playing hard to get,” Xie Xiugang said, shaking his head as he finished his assessment. “No, no, from my perspective as a Casanova, he probably has too many women around him and is currently preoccupied with his emotions, so he doesn’t want to ruin you.”

"Someone gave you an official position and you're already speaking up for him like this? Who's your sister, him or me?" Xie Daoyun said irritably.

“I’m telling you this from the perspective of a mature man who’s captivated countless young women,” Xie Xiu said, unfolding his fan and shaking it, looking exhausted. “Being a heartthrob like us is actually quite tiring. Having too many women like you is a burden. Sometimes we think about not wanting to ruin any more good girls.”

"You talk a good game, but I bet he won over that Princess Wu very quickly too." Xie Daoyun rolled her eyes.

"So that's why you're angry. Actually, it's just a mutually beneficial relationship between mature men and women," Xie Xiu analyzed. "Or maybe they already knew each other and had a relationship before."

"Was there anyone before you knew me?" Xie Daoyun was getting a little annoyed. "Alright, alright, stop analyzing here. It's giving me a headache."

As she spoke, she pushed her younger brother out.

“If you really let go, that’s fine,” Xie Xiu said quickly as she was being pushed out, “but there are so many women in the world who want to be with him these days, so just don’t regret it later.”

"Bang!"

He was met with the sound of the door slamming shut.

Xie Xiu sighed. Love is such a harmful thing.

If it weren't for the fact that I couldn't beat Zu'an, I would have at least gone and beaten him up to vent my sister's anger.

Xie Daoyun, who was inside the house, was lost in thought as she thought about her younger brother's words.

After an unknown amount of time, his gaze gradually hardened. His master and uncle had recently invented something that he could use as a pretext…
