Chapter 93 Inescapable Fate

The rebels saw the knights' equipment in the valley and their eyes lit up. As rebels, they were already struggling financially and had to rob everything they could find.

Therefore, the clothes and armor worn by this army were colorful, and many were tattered and patched, because they were taken from the bodies of dead government soldiers, or bought from the black market after changing hands many times.

The hundred-man squad before us now rode tall horses, their armor bright and vibrant, their weapons clearly of superior quality and sharpness.

If this cavalry force had a thousand men—no, even just five hundred—they would naturally turn tail and run. Fighting government troops equipped like that would be a huge loss for them.

But now they only have one hundred people, which in everyone's eyes are a hundred fat sheep.

By plundering this group of government troops, they can upgrade from ragtag guns to cannons. More importantly, with this intimidating armor, it will be many times easier for them to trick their way into opening city gates in the future.

The rebels had a rule: whoever grabbed it kept it. This was the only way to maximize their fighting power. So, a group of people roared and charged toward the hundred-man Imperial Guard squad.

Seeing the group's eyes, which seemed to want to strip them naked, the hearts of many Imperial Guardsmen trembled.

Fortunately, the Imperial Guards were the emperor's personal troops. Although they were stationed in the capital year-round, they were still considered elite. Wang Bolin and Zhang Zijiang were capable men after all. After the initial panic, they quickly organized their men to set up their formation with their backs against the mountain wall and face the enemy head-on.

The cavalry's greatest advantage was its mobility and infiltration, but now it is surrounded and the terrain in the valley is inconvenient. Before the cavalry can even charge, they will probably be divided and annihilated by an enemy that outnumbers them by dozens of times. Therefore, the best strategy is to hold the line.

Armies all have combined attack formations, ranging from a few people to hundreds or even tens of thousands.

The Imperial Guards are one of the five imperial guards, and they usually practice defensive formations, which is perfect for the current situation.

Therefore, although the rebels attacked from all directions, Wang Bolin and Zhang Zijiang still tried their best to maintain their formation and struggled to hold on amidst the raging wind and waves.

Xie Daoyun held nothing back at this moment, and with the little energy she had finally recovered, she used various auxiliary formations to help this Imperial Guard.

However, she had fought against this rebel army before and knew their strength very well. The disparity in numbers between the two sides was too great. Her side could hold out for a while, but they would inevitably be unable to hold out for long.

"Generals, are there any other friendly forces nearby? Send a signal to call them over." Xie Daoyun had been in the capital for many years and knew that the Imperial Guards would not usually be mobilized, and if they were, there should be more than this many men.

Wang Bolin and Zhang Zijiang remained silent, their faces showing embarrassment. After all, Zu An had just warned them that the enemy situation was unclear and to be wary of ambushes, but they had disregarded it, acting arrogantly and disdainfully in front of him. Now, turning to him for help, the two were too embarrassed to admit it. They each thought that if they could hold out a little longer, these rebels would give up.

They were indeed capable, managing to make their ranks impenetrable, and with Xie Daoyun's help, they repelled several waves of rebel attacks.

Several attacks left only corpses on the ground, and the rebels indeed began to stir, their morale visibly declining.

Wang Bolin and Zhang Zijiang were overjoyed; it seemed that their patience had finally paid off.

Xie Daoyun immediately warned, "You two should be careful. The rebels have two very powerful leaders, one with a scarred face and the other a drunken monk. They are both experts."

"Scarface, Monk?" Zhang Zijiang's expression suddenly changed. "Could it be Scarface Yang Shen and Monk Lu Zhi from Shuanglong Mountain?"

Looking across the land, the most powerful of all the rebel forces is undoubtedly Lu Sanyuan, who is rumored to have a background with a demonic cult.

Besides him, there were several other powerful rebel groups, and Shuanglong Mountain was one of them. The two leaders, Scarface Yang Shen and Monk Lu Zhi, were top-notch ruthless people in the martial arts world with high cultivation levels. The local government had repeatedly failed to suppress them. However, Shuanglong Mountain was not located here. Why would they appear thousands of miles away?

Before the group could even discuss the matter, a deafening roar erupted, and a burly monk with a fierce face slowly emerged from the rebel ranks. With each step he took, the earth seemed to tremble.

He was like a giant, more than twice the height of an ordinary person, with bulging muscles all over his body. He wore a large necklace of skulls on his chest, and he was holding a rock as big as a small mountain in his hands, which is why his steps were so heavy.

The monk roared like a tiger and then threw the boulder in his hand toward the Imperial Guards.

"Defend!" Wang Bolin and Zhang Zijiang were shocked and hurriedly gave the order, and a blue light array pattern appeared around them.

However, they also knew that if this boulder, which was as big as a small mountain, were to come down, the Imperial Guards would likely be thrown into disarray. So, the two of them leaped out at the same time, each wielding a sword, and unleashed a fierce sword aura that slashed at the boulder.

Although the two were not weak, they were quite apprehensive in the face of the roaring boulder, unsure whether they could stop it.

To their surprise, the moment the blade approached the boulder, it exploded as if it had been shattered into pieces.

The two were taken aback, neither of them expecting their sword energy to be so powerful.

But the next second, those shattered pebbles whistled as they hurtled towards the army formation below, each one like a cannonball, creating ripples on the defensive formation.

The two finally realized that the monk had hidden a hidden force within the boulder, which he detonated before it approached the Imperial Guards, causing it to scatter into countless stones that densely attacked the defensive formation.
