After all that, it turns out this woman never even gave him a second glance. Clearly, that good-for-nothing son-in-law from her previous life wasn't even worth remembering by her; she only needed to know that her best friend had an incompetent husband.
But thinking about it, it makes sense. No matter how you look at it, the difference between the two is like heaven and earth, so it's normal that the other party doesn't remember him.
"My name is Zu'an, remember that now!" Zu'an said fiercely. He understood, but he was genuinely angry. He had thought he was handsome and eloquent and had left a deep impression on this beautiful woman.
"I'll remember!" Pei Mianman gritted her teeth. After such a fierce "fight," it was hard for her not to remember. "Why are you here?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that question?" Zuan snorted.
Pei Mianman's face darkened: "You're the one who said we could cooperate. I'd like to hear what your brilliant ideas are." Her fingertips twitched slightly, and flames flickered on them again.
"You're probably here to look for something, right?" Zuan asked.
“Not bad.” Pei Mianman thought to herself that her behavior just now must have been seen by him, and there was no point in denying it.
“Judging from your appearance, you probably haven’t found it yet. I can help you,” Zuan said.
If she had heard the other person say this before, she would have just laughed it off and wouldn't have taken it to heart at all. But after that life-or-death struggle, the other person had actually subdued her, making her dare not take him lightly: "Then what do you want?"
Zu An said, "Since you are Chu Chuyan's best friend, you should know my awkward position in the Chu family. We are husband and wife in name only, but not in reality. So if you help me get her and become the real son-in-law of the Chu family, I will help you find things."
Pei Mianman was taken aback at first, then chuckled: "I didn't expect you to be after her. But even I, as a woman, am tempted by such a stunning beauty as Chu Yan. Okay, deal!"
"You agreed so readily?" Zuan was taken aback, and became somewhat uncertain.
"Are you worried I'll trick you into letting go?" Pei Mianman sneered, waving her finger in front of him. "If you hadn't just persuaded me, you would have been burned to ashes by now."
Zuan noticed the black flames at her fingertips and was startled. Recalling what he had learned about cultivation levels, he realized that this woman was actually a fifth-rank expert. No wonder he had almost died at her hands.
Seeing him stunned, Pei Mianman blushed briefly: "Is it so satisfying to take advantage of your wife's best friend? Let go of her now!"
Seeing that the other person's finger might poke him at any moment, Zu An hurriedly let go of her and hid to the side.
Pei Mianman got up and straightened her disheveled clothes. She noticed that there was a lot of dust and handprints on her body. Thinking of the scene where the two of them had been entangled all the way, her face turned cold. She wondered if she should just kill this brat.
Noticing her expression, Zu'an quickly asked, "What are you looking for?"
Pei Mianman hesitated for a moment: "An account book."
"What ledger?" Zu'an was stunned. She had gone to so much trouble, only to find out that it was just a ledger.
Pei Mianman didn't answer, but instead giggled and said, "I'll tell you when you have a higher status in the Chu family." She hadn't planned to agree to such an alliance at first, but then she thought that she hadn't found any account books during her two night raids of the Chu residence. Maybe with the help of this kid, she could actually find some clues.
Of course, all of this depends on the other party being qualified to participate.
Pei Mianman suddenly remembered something and looked at him suspiciously: "By the way, what are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
Zuan chuckled awkwardly, "Would you believe me if I said I just wanted to take a walk?"
Pei Mianman rolled her eyes, then suddenly noticed a corner of silk peeking out from the other person's chest: "Huh, what's this?"
Zuan tried to stop them, but they were too fast, and the things in his arms had already been taken away.
Looking at the woman's underwear in her hand, Pei Mianman laughed heartily: "You sneaked in here in the middle of the night, only to steal your wife's underwear? I really despise you."
Zu An's face flushed, and he hurriedly stepped forward to snatch it back, stuffing it back into his arms: "What's it to you?"
Pei Mianman's gaze at him grew increasingly strange: "No wonder you're the man who climbed into your sister-in-law's bed on your wedding night. I thought you weren't that bold before, but now it seems you really are a lecherous and shameless fellow."
Zu An's heart skipped a beat. Judging from her words, it wasn't her doing that he was thrown onto the second young lady of the Chu family's bed that night. So who was it?
He jokingly added, "Compared to a sister-in-law, a wife's best friend seems quite attractive too."
Pei Mianman wore a charming smile, but a dangerous glint flashed in her eyes: "Many men have made their eyes on me over the years, but in the end, not a single bone was left. If you're not afraid, you can try it too."
Zuan shook his head: "Then forget it. Anyway, we've already tried everything we should and shouldn't have tried."
"What did you say?" Pei Mianman's face darkened.
Anger from Pei Mianman +256!
"It's nothing. I just meant that we made quite a commotion just now, so it's best to leave here as soon as possible, otherwise it won't be good if we alert the Chu family." Zu An secretly despised this woman. On the surface, she seemed so wanton and flirtatious, but he didn't expect her to be so unable to take a joke.
“That makes sense.” Pei Mianman nodded. “Let’s call it a day. But if I hear any rumors in the future, I will cut your tongue out.”
Zuan covered his mouth: "Don't worry, I guarantee that only heaven, earth, you, and I will know."
Pei Mianman snorted: "You'd better forget about today too."
