Chapter 11 I Don’t Want Anything
Zhong Beichi was naturally dissatisfied, "Brother, why didn't mom buy anything for her? Mom and Shanshan bought her a lot of clothes, shoes and bags. Why do you say that it seems like you are mistreating her? Did she wear such nice clothes before she moved in?"
"Second brother!" Meng Shanshan frowned. She hurriedly pulled his sleeve and acted very tolerant and sensible. "These clothes were given to me by my aunt out of kindness. The necklace belongs to my sister. How can you compare the necklace with the clothes?"
Then, she smiled apologetically at Ye Jinmo: "Sister, don't listen to my second brother's nonsense. These clothes are just for your daily change. Please accept them and don't feel burdened."
Ye Jinmo was silent for a while, walked out from behind the eldest brother, looked coldly at the people in front of him, and finally turned his gaze to Zhong Beichi.
"You mean, if I take these clothes I have to give up the necklace, right?"
"Of course, you have to know how to be content..."
"I don't want to." The girl interrupted him calmly.
"What?" Zhong Beichi's face flushed and he reached out to pull her collar.
How could a little girl who had just come in talk back to him like this?
Meng Shanshan hurriedly stopped him: "Second brother, don't be impulsive!"
Mother Zhong couldn't stand it any longer, so she quickly stepped forward to hold him back, and whispered, "How could you fight with Jinmo?"
"Mom, when have we ever wronged Shanshan in terms of food, clothing and daily expenses? As soon as she came back, she treasured the necklace as if it were a credit. She can live in such a nice house and be the daughter of the Zhong family. She must be grateful to us!"
Ye Jinmo's expression remained unchanged, but her brother's hand tightened a little bit.
Zhong Shaoqing noticed the change in the little girl. He lowered his head and put his arm around her shoulders with a distressed look, glancing at her stubborn face.
Without waiting for him to speak, the little girl pulled her hand free, turned around, picked up the plastic bag on the ground and put it at the door.
"I don't need these clothes," she looked at Zhong's mother and Meng Shanshan silently, "You can take them!"
This sentence made Zhong's mother's eyes red. She didn't care about anything else. She turned around and held Ye Jinmo's hand, saying anxiously, "Momo, mom doesn't want to exchange these clothes for jewelry. These clothes were picked by mom for you. I just... I just want to make you happy..."
Seeing that his mother was about to cry, Zhong Beichi became even more angry. He didn't care that his elder brother was still there. He pointed at Ye Jinmo's nose and scolded: "You ungrateful wolf, how could you let your mother down? You only know how to please your elder brother with words..."
Before he could finish, Zhong Shaoqing kicked him on the calf, causing him to bend over in pain.
"Brother, you actually fought with me for her!"
There was a lot of noise in the room and Mr. Zhong also came.
"What are you doing?"
Meng Shanshan hurried forward and briefly explained the whole story.
He glanced at Ye Jinmo with some dissatisfaction, and finally turned his gaze to his eldest son and said sternly: "After living for more than 20 years, have you forgotten the principle of brotherly harmony? How can the daughters of our Zhong family fight over a set of jewelry?"
He sighed, his face slightly cold, "Jinmo, you did something wrong in this matter. No matter what, your elder brother and second brother are in conflict because of you."
He paused, and continued to persuade in a deep voice, "We, the Zhong family, should be generous. Since Shanshan likes this thing, you should give it to her. It can show your understanding and generosity. Dad will buy you new jewelry later."
Mr. Zhong didn't think it was anything special, just an object.
Compared to this, her two brothers had a conflict because of her, and if the news got out, she would be given a reputation as petty-minded. How could she gain a foothold among the children of the Zhong family?
Just a few simple words left Ye Jinmo stunned.
The light that was originally shining in her almond-shaped eyes gradually disappeared, her eyelids drooped, and the hand that was pulling on her brother's sleeve loosened.
Zhong Shaoqing didn't have time to stop his father from saying, "Dad!"
He was about to explain when he heard the girl next to him say coldly, "No need."
Unlike the argument just now, at this moment, she seemed completely distant.
"I don't want the clothes or the necklace anymore."
After he finished speaking, Mr. Zhong was a little confused when he looked at his daughter in simple clothes.
Wasn't he talking about the jewelry? Why don’t you even want the clothes your family bought for you?
He said patiently: "This is a token of your mother's love!"
Ye Jinmo lowered her head and said, "Just think of it as my ignorance and my failure to live up to your kindness. I will move out tonight."
It was like this in the Ye family before. Her parents didn’t like her, so she stayed away from them.
When others are happy, she feels relaxed too.
"Is it that serious?" Zhong Beichi still stiffened his neck and refused to bow his head, his face full of disdain, "Are you going to run away from home?"
When Meng Shanshan heard that she was leaving, her heartbeat jumped a little, but she quickly changed to a worried expression and comforted her: "Sister, we don't mean that. The necklace and clothes are yours. You just came back. If you move out, how will others look at our Zhong family?"
"When did I say I was a member of the Zhong family?" Ye Jinmo said coldly.
"Jinmo, you..." Father Zhong wanted to say something, but she didn't want to listen anymore.
She picked up the medicine bag on the table, put it in the eldest brother's hand, and said, "Brother, these medicines are enough for everyone to detoxify. If there is a shortage, please tell me and I will make more. I have already written down the instructions for taking them."
After saying that, she picked up her suitcase and walked downstairs.
Father Zhong looked at the medicine, then at her thin back, and felt sad:
"Jinmo, Daddy doesn't want you to leave. If you're unhappy, just say it."
Mother Zhong cried even harder: "Momo, Mommy didn't buy clothes for any other reason!"
Zhong Beichi was also panicked. If his grandfather knew that the granddaughter he had just adopted left that very night, he would be in big trouble!
"You can't leave. If you leave, you'll put all the blame on us. When Grandpa asks about it, we'll all be punished!"
Father Zhong was so disappointed that he slapped him on the back of the head: "Jinmo is still thinking about the detoxification at noon. How dare you say such a thing? Shut up!"
