Chapter Sixty-One: His Ear Tips Turned Red
The doctor rushed over and began examining Zhou Manyun.
Yan Mingshen rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
"Stop talking..."
He was speaking when he received a call from the hospital.
"Mr. Yan, Ms. Xia Zhi's test results are in. We suggest you come to the hospital as soon as possible, as there are some things that need to be discussed in person."
"knew."
Yan Mingshen hung up the phone, his expression gloomy.
Early the next morning.
In Luofeng Garden, Su Xiao slowly opened her eyes. Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains and fell on her face, making her feel lazy.
She slept all day yesterday and is now fully alive.
She walked into the living room and saw Xu Bozhou curled up on the sofa, covered with a thin blanket, the dark circles under his eyes still visible.
Hearing the noise, Xu Bozhou opened his eyes, his fox-like eyes slightly narrowed, his voice hoarse from just waking up:
"Awake? Do you want to sleep a little longer?"
Su Xiao shook her head, her gaze falling on his wrinkled shirt, and a thought flickered in her mind: "I want to go back to work."
Xu Bozhou frowned, instinctively wanting to refuse: "You've just recovered, rest for a few more days."
"The West Bank project couldn't move forward while I was resting for two days."
Su Xiao's tone was soft, yet conveyed a sense of relief: "I prefer the sense of accomplishment that comes from work to rest."
Besides, this was something she had promised him in the first place.
Seeing the stubbornness in her eyes, Xu Bozhou finally relented, though his tone remained firm:
"I'll take you there."
"good."
Su Xiao nodded, no longer keeping her distance as before. She simply looked down at the half-finished coffee on the coffee table, and a faint smile suddenly appeared on her lips.
When she got up, she thought he had already gone back, but unexpectedly, he stayed up with her for half the night, drinking coffee.
There's nothing left for him to take from her now, and she's willing to try to believe in his sincerity.
Xu Bozhou's breath hitched for a beat.
He couldn't remember the last time he had seen her smile.
His Adam's apple bobbed imperceptibly, but the tips of his ears turned a pale pink first, as if swept by the softest spring breeze, gently leaving a mark on his heart.
"Are you hungry? I'll cook you some porridge."
When he spoke, he deliberately lowered his voice, maintaining his usual composure, but the gaze that fell on Su Xiao was as if it had been soaked in warm water, losing its usual domineering nature and becoming more cautious.
"Then I'll go change my clothes."
Su Xiao felt her face flush from his gaze, avoided his eyes, and turned to go to the dressing room.
As Xu Bozhou stood up, he casually picked up the suit jacket draped over the sofa and put it in his arm, his movements swift and exuding an innate air of nobility.
His custom-made suit accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist, while the cuffs were rolled up slightly to reveal an expensive wristwatch on his wrist, its dial reflecting the morning light.
After finishing their meal, the two tidied up briefly and then went out.
The car came to a smooth stop in front of the Xu Group building. The glass curtain wall reflected the midday sun, making it painful to look at.
Xu Bozhou got out of the car first, walked around to the passenger side, opened the door, and naturally placed his palm on Su Xiao's head to prevent her from hitting the door frame.
His movements were skillful, exuding the unique control of someone in a position of authority, yet concealing a tenderness he dared not utter aloud.
As Su Xiao bent down to get out of the car, her fingertips accidentally brushed against his wrist, touching the cold metal casing of his watch.
She paused, then looked up to meet his fox-like eyes, which still held the lingering ambiguity of their morning encounter, now covered by a layer of composure.
"I can go up by myself," she said softly.
"Meng Jin is waiting upstairs; he has prepared the project materials."
Xu Bozhou did not withdraw his hand, but simply added lightly.
"I'm in the office. Contact me anytime if you need anything."
His tone was gentle, and he didn't insist on following her any further. He simply watched her walk into the revolving door until her slender figure disappeared at the elevator entrance before turning to walk towards his private elevator, the pink tips of his ears quietly reappearing.
On the fourth floor, the atmosphere in the office was as if it were frozen solid.
The West Coast project team sat around the conference table, the documents piled up like a small mountain, and everyone looked exhausted.
Until the glass door at the entrance was pushed open, Su Xiao was wearing a neatly tailored white suit skirt, her long hair was tied into a low ponytail, revealing her slender neck.
Her appearance instantly broke the dullness of the room.
"Xiaoxiao!" Qin Yun walked up to her, wishing she could give her a bear hug: "You're finally back."
"Our team leader Su still knows to come back."
As the person in charge of the project, I took more than a week off during the project.
Discontent gradually grew.
"I think those who get in through connections are unreliable."
"Do you really think our Xu family is a place to pad one's resume?"
"It's fine if you just play around with it, but I'm counting on this project for a raise."
Su Xiao pursed her lips but didn't say much. She simply took the documents and returned to the main seat.
On her way here, she had already learned about the current situation from Xu Bozhou and had also come up with a solution.
"I understand that everyone has grievances at work, let's have a meeting first."
Having spent a long time by Xu Bozhou's side, she gradually absorbed the aura of a superior. Just by standing there, the others gradually quieted down.
Su Xiao nodded, her fingertips tracing over the dense annotations, her tone calm yet powerful:
"Give me the supplier's contract and the records of the negotiations over there. We'll have a short meeting in ten minutes."
Her gaze swept over everyone, and her previously gloomy face instantly brightened. Some people immediately got up to get documents, while others quickly turned on their computers. The office was instantly filled with the sound of keyboards clicking, and the stuffy air finally began to move.
Xu Bozhou sat in his top-floor office, his fingertips swiping across a tablet computer, the screen showing Su Xiao presiding over a meeting in the conference room.
She frowned slightly, nodded gently while listening to her subordinates' reports, and occasionally interrupted to ask questions. Her logic was so clear that it was impossible for anyone to refute her.
A smile unconsciously curved his lips as he picked up his phone and sent a message to Chen Huai:
"Make sure you handle things cleanly with Xu Lin. If I see him in China again, you know what will happen."
The meeting lasted all afternoon, until the setting sun cast dappled shadows on the floor through the blinds, at which point Su Xiao finally left the meeting room.
She rubbed her throbbing temples, and just as she reached her workstation and picked up her bag, she heard her colleague say...
"Ms. Su, you're amazing! The supplier just called to say they're willing to lower the price to make our display cases!"
"If you're willing to lower the price, that's fine. Remember to send the completed design drawings to my email."
Su Xiao smiled, picked up her bag and stepped into the elevator. She pressed the button for the first floor and watched the elevator doors slowly close before leaning against the wall and letting out a soft sigh of relief.
Once the West Bund project is completed, she will take advantage of the momentum to renovate the gallery.
When she has the land deed to the Su family's old house in her hand, she won't have to be so hesitant and pretentious with those people anymore.
As soon as Su Xiao stepped out of the elevator, she saw a man dressed in black casual clothes leaning against the car.
The man was tall and straight, carrying a file folder. He immediately stood up straight when he saw her come out; it was Zhou Moqing.
