Chapter Twenty-Seven: He Was Jealous
The door was gently closed, and the studio returned to silence.
Su Xiao looked at the wooden box on the table and sighed very softly.
She didn't know how to face Xu Bozhou.
Humans are sometimes very contradictory creatures.
She picked up the thin tweezers and examined them under the light.
A tiny "洲" character is carved on the bamboo handle; it's almost invisible unless you look closely.
Su Xiao's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly looked away.
The next day.
Sunlight streamed through the blinds, casting dappled shadows in the fourth-floor office area.
Su Xiao sat at her workstation, typing on her keyboard.
The atmosphere in the office area was tense and subtle.
When Zhang Lei and his group saw her, they avoided eye contact and didn't even dare to breathe loudly.
"What happened?"
Su Xiao looked at Lin Xi, who was standing to the side.
"you guess."
Lin Xi placed a stack of documents on her desk, pretending to be mysterious.
"I won't guess." Su Xiao said, packing up her documents without looking up.
Lin Xi clicked her tongue in dissatisfaction and lowered her voice, saying:
"Xu Lin has been transferred to a branch office. It's said that General Manager Xu approved it personally."
Su Xiao paused for a moment, her fingers holding the document still.
"knew."
She opened the document, but couldn't concentrate on reading a single word.
For some reason, Xu Bozhou's slightly mocking smile kept popping into my head.
The whole day went exceptionally smoothly.
As I was packing my things to leave in the evening, my phone suddenly vibrated.
The three characters "Yan Mingshen" flashing on the screen made her frown.
My fingertip hovered over the answer button for a moment, then I finally swiped to turn it on.
Where?
Yan Mingshen's voice came through the receiver.
It reeked of alcohol and had a slightly hoarse voice.
It was completely different from his usual aloof and distant tone.
It's as if the edges and corners have been softened by alcohol.
"The company." Su Xiao lowered her eyes, hiding the impatience in her tone.
"Come pick me up."
His tone carried an unquestionable command, and the faint sound of clinking glasses could be heard in the background.
"Platinum Club, Room 302".
Su Xiao's knuckles turned white as she gripped her phone.
"Yan Mingshen, I..."
"Xiaoxiao."
Yan Mingshen interrupted her, but he didn't know what to say.
There was a sudden silence on the other end of the phone, with only suppressed breathing sounds.
After a long while, he spoke again, his voice so low it sounded like a sigh:
"Feel sorry……"
Su Xiao closed her eyes and finally gave in.
The drama between her and Yan Mingshen is definitely not over yet.
"Wait."
After hanging up the phone, Su Xiao picked up the bag draped over the back of the chair.
He said a few words to Lin Xi and then left in a hurry.
As the elevator descended, she looked at her calm face in the mirror and suddenly felt a sense of absurdity.
She can't keep dragging this marriage on until the day the old lady of the Su family dies.
When will I finally be free...?
Platinum Club is located in an old villa in the city center.
The red brick wall is covered with ivy, and a row of luxury cars are parked in front of the gate.
Su Xiao gave her room number, and the waiter led her through the corridor.
The air was filled with the aroma of cigars and champagne.
The door to VIP room 302 was ajar, and noisy laughter and chatter could be heard coming from inside.
Su Xiao pushed open the door and immediately saw Yan Mingshen sitting in the main seat.
He was wearing a dark gray suit today, with his tie hanging loosely around his neck.
Her usually meticulously styled hair was a little messy.
A few stray hairs fell across her forehead, obscuring her eyes, which always carried a sense of aloofness.
They noticed the noise at the door.
Yan Mingshen looked up, his gaze somewhat unfocused.
"You've arrived."
He stood up, his movements unsteady. Someone immediately tried to help him, but he waved them away.
He walked straight up to Su Xiao, his breath reeking of alcohol and radiating an aggressive aura.
Let's go.
He looked down at her, his long eyelashes casting a small shadow under his eyes.
Su Xiao didn't say anything, but reached out to help his arm, only to have him grab her wrist instead.
His palms were burning hot, and his grip was incredibly strong, as if he was afraid she would run away.
"Let go." Su Xiao frowned.
Yan Mingshen didn't let go, but just looked down at her, his eyes appearing particularly stubborn under the influence of alcohol:
Help me up.
All eyes turned to them, filled with curiosity and ambiguity.
Su Xiao had no choice but to let him hold her wrist and half-support, half-carry her away from the private room.
As they walked down the corridor, Yan Mingshen unconsciously leaned his head against her shoulder.
He was very tall, and this posture made him look somewhat clumsy. His breath brushed against her neck, carrying the warm, humid scent of alcohol.
Su Xiao's body stiffened. She wanted to push him away, but she was mindful of her status.
She could only stagger and help him walk out.
*
Outside the private room diagonally opposite.
Xu Bozhou was standing at the door talking to someone, a casual smile playing on his lips.
He wore a dark red shirt today, with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms.
His fair wrist, covered in blue veins, was exposed, with a cigarette between his fingers.
Amidst the swirling smoke, those fox-like eyes appeared exceptionally alluring.
Chen Huai stood behind him carrying an exquisite cake box; it was from the time-honored dessert shop in the west of the city.
"Sir, Miss Su seems to be over there."
"What is she doing here?"
Xu Bozhou followed his gaze.
Su Xiao and Yan Mingshen stood very close together, their actions were ambiguous, and they almost kissed each other during their conversation.
Xu Bozhou's smile faded.
His fingers tightened around the cigarette, his knuckles turning white, and ash fell onto his expensive trousers.
Chen Huai's heart skipped a beat, and he was about to say something.
Xu Bozhou, his face dark, stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray next to him.
He didn't look at Su Xiao anymore, but turned to Chen Huai and said coldly:
"Walk."
Chen Huai paused for a moment, then subconsciously raised the cake box in his hand:
"Sir, this..."
"I threw it away."
Xu Bozhou's voice was both cold and bitter.
His back view exuded a menacing aura that kept strangers at bay.
Chen Huai watched him disappear at the top of the stairs, then looked at the unopened cake box.
With a helpless sigh, he threw the box into the nearby trash can.
*
Su Xiao was completely unaware of the commotion across the street; she was struggling to help Yan Mingshen walk towards the door.
The man's weight was almost entirely on her, causing the wound on her right hand to throb with pain.
"Yan Mingshen, stop pressing down on me," she said irritably.
Yan Mingshen seemed not to hear, and simply buried his head even deeper.
His breath sprayed onto the nape of her neck, carrying a strong smell of alcohol.
Su Xiao frowned and avoided it.
After finally managing to get the person into the car, she was just about to close the door.
Yan Mingshen suddenly grabbed her wrist.
"Don't go."
His voice was hoarse, and his eyes appeared particularly deep in the dim light.
Aren't you coming home with me?
"Yan Mingshen, we're still arguing."
Su Xiao tried to pull her hand away, but he gripped it even tighter.
"Xia Zhi's matter..."
Yan Mingshen suddenly spoke, his voice so low it was almost a whisper.
"sorry."
I'm sorry, I'm sorry again.
He could offer her nothing but apologies and compensation.
"I've already found a place to live."
Yan Mingshen's Adam's apple bobbed, his gaze fixed on her right hand with a complex expression:
She'll be moving out soon.
Su Xiao looked at him and suddenly felt a little unfamiliar.
This man is always aloof and in control of everything.
At this moment, a barely perceptible hint of panic appeared in his eyes.
"Come home with me, okay?"
