Chapter Twenty-Four: A Scoundrel Taking Advantage of Another's Misfortune

Chapter Twenty-Four: A Scoundrel Taking Advantage of Another's Misfortune

Xia Zhi smiled coldly, her expression hidden in the shadows.

He's gone mad.

"His right hand, which has been injured twice, will probably never be able to hold a pen again."

She grabbed her bag from the ground without even glancing at Su Xiao, who was lying on the floor.

She left in her high heels, slamming the door shut with a loud bang.

Su Xiao lay on the ground, a dull pain in her forehead and a sharp pain in her palms coming at her at the same time.

Consciousness, like paper soaked in water, gradually becomes blurred.

She struggled to raise her hand and touched her phone on the edge of the workbench.

My fingertips swiped randomly across the screen, and I pressed the wrong number several times.

Qin Yu's number was at the very top of her contacts, but her hands were shaking violently.

My finger hovered for a long time, but in the end, I still didn't know who I dialed.

The moment the call connected, she heard a familiar voice on the other end.

All the grievances burst forth in an instant.

In a daze, she seemed to see a tall, thin boy wearing an outdated school uniform, standing firmly in front of her.

"Uncle..."

She wanted to say something, but her throat felt blocked, and she could only make broken, breathy sounds.

The crimson color in my vision grew thicker and thicker until finally, I was plunged into complete darkness.

Xu Bozhou, on the other end of the phone, was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window smoking.

I heard that tearful voice calling out "Uncle".

Ash from the cigarette fell softly onto the expensive carpet.

He stubbed out his cigarette, grabbed his suit jacket from the back of the chair, and rushed out.

Her voice betrayed a panic she herself didn't realize: "Where? Explain yourself!"

He was met with only a busy tone, followed by the dull thud of a heavy object falling to the ground.

Xu Bozhou's heart skipped a beat, and he frantically dialed Chen Huai's number:

"Locate Su Xiao's phone! Immediately!"

Qin Yu's studio wasn't in a too remote location. Xu Bozhou kicked open the half-closed wooden door.

A strong smell of blood hit the air.

Su Xiao lay prone on the cold blue brick floor, half a carving knife stuck in her right palm.

Blood seeped through his fingers and into the veins of the blue bricks, gleaming a glaring red in the moonlight.

"Su Xiao!"

He rushed over and picked her up; the girl's body was as light as a feather.

The wound on his forehead was still bleeding, soaking his expensive shirt.

Xu Bozhou's hands trembled uncontrollably, and his Adam's apple bobbed wildly as his fingertips touched the carving knife in her palm.

"Don't be afraid, I'll take you to the hospital."

Su Xiao stirred in his arms, tears still clinging to her eyelashes.

She opened her eyes and saw it was him, then suddenly pushed him away forcefully.

"Don't touch me..."

Her voice was hoarse and had a heavy nasal tone.

The carving knife went deeper into her palm, causing her to gasp in pain.

Xu Bozhou was pushed back half a step by her, watching her stubbornly try to get up from the ground.

My anger flared up.

"Su Xiao, haven't you made enough of a scene?"

He grabbed her uninjured wrist with such force that he almost crushed her bones:

"You'd risk your life for that scumbag Yan Mingshen?"

"My affairs are none of your business!"

Su Xiao gritted her teeth and glared at him, her eyes red-rimmed, but she didn't have much of an intimidating presence.

"Xu Bozhou, stop with your fake kindness, it disgusts me!"

Xu Bozhou's pupils suddenly contracted as he looked down at the blood gushing from her palm.

He suddenly chuckled softly.

The laughter was chilling: "Hypocritical?"

He leaned closer to her, so close they could feel each other's breath.

The scent of cedar mixed with tobacco on him enveloped her forcefully.

"Then tell me, who called me in the middle of the night calling me 'Uncle'?"

Su Xiao was taken aback by his question and stubbornly turned her face away, but he grabbed her chin and forced her to turn back.

His fingertips, calloused, touched the cold sweat on her chin; his eyes were as deep and unfathomable as a bottomless pool.

"Su Xiao, can't you be a little more dignified? You've been bullied like this, and all you can do is bare your teeth at me?"

"Otherwise what?"

She suddenly laughed, laughing so hard that tears streamed down her face, dripping onto the back of his hand.

"Should I go to Yan Mingshen to complain? Or should I go to the Su family and let them use me as a bargaining chip again?"

Her voice suddenly rose, filled with hysterical despair:

"Xu Bozhou, tell me, what should I do?"

Xu Bozhou felt as if something was gripping his heart tightly, causing him so much pain that he couldn't speak.

Looking into the lifeless ashes in her eyes, he suddenly remembered many years ago.

She got out of the car wearing an expensive little dress.

Like a god, reach out your hand to him.

She asked him if he wanted to go home with her.

"I'm not qualified?"

He released his grip on her chin, his fingertips gently brushing against the wound on her forehead.

The movements were gentler than ever before:

"Then who is qualified? Yan Mingshen?"

He suddenly scooped her up in his arms, ignoring her struggles, and strode out:

"Let me tell you, Su Xiao, from the moment you opened your mouth to me, this matter was no longer up to you."

Su Xiao struggled desperately in his arms, the excruciating pain from her wound making her vision blur.

But he was sharp-tongued:

"Xu Bozhou, let me go! You're a bastard who took advantage of me in my vulnerable state!"

"Shut up."

Xu Bozhou interrupted her, looking down at her pale face, his tone fierce yet inexplicably aggrieved.

“I didn’t take advantage of you. You were the one who said you would take me home.”

He put her in the car; Chen Huai had already prepared a first-aid kit.

Xu Bozhou personally treated her wounds, as the alcohol swab touched his palm.

Su Xiao was trembling all over from the pain, but she bit her lip tightly and refused to make a sound.

His movements were very light, but his fingertips kept trembling until he saw the deep, bone-revealing wound.

I then realized that my breathing was trembling.

"Xia Zhi did it?"

He asked, his voice eerily calm.

Su Xiao turned her face away and didn't say anything.

Xu Bozhou didn't ask any more questions. He simply bandaged her hand and treated the wound on her forehead.

He started the car, but instead of driving to the hospital, he headed towards the most luxurious hotel in the city center.

Where are you taking me?

Su Xiao looked at him warily.

"Clean up your mess."

Xu Bozhou looked straight ahead:

"The doctor is already waiting at Xu An's house, don't worry."

In a private room on the top floor of the hotel, Yan Mingshen was drinking with several CEOs.

Before he could react, the door was kicked open, and he was pulled out by a tremendous force.

"Xu Bozhou? You're insane!"

Yan Mingshen was pinned against the wall by him.

He didn't even have time to struggle.

Xu Bozhou then punched him in the face.

The dull thud stunned everyone around.

He grabbed Yan Mingshen by the collar, his eyes filled with a ferocious glint that seemed to want to devour him.

"Mr. Yan, does it hurt?"

He threw another punch, causing blood to trickle from Yan Mingshen's mouth:

"It's supposed to hurt."

"Comfort is for the dead."

Yan Mingshen was so dizzy from the beating that he struggled to slap Xu Bozhou back.

Xu Bozhou turned his head away, laughing, and shoved him aside:

"I'm not crazy, it's your little lover who's crazy."
