Chapter Thirty-Two: Blushing and Heart-Pounding
Xu An hurriedly sent Xu Bozhou his location.
Then, pulling Su Xiao along, they walked towards the booth opposite.
"I advise you not to meddle in other people's business."
The man in the lead looked up and glanced at them.
His gaze was fierce.
The light shone on his face, revealing a scar about two centimeters long on his right temple.
Su Xiao looked at him and felt inexplicably familiar with him.
"Team Leader Su?"
Lin Xi saw her eyes light up for a moment, but then immediately dimmed again.
"Don't worry about me, you guys go on your way."
"Can I ask what happened first?"
Su Xiao gripped Xu An's sleeve, feeling a little apprehensive herself.
She had seen plenty of shady dealings in the business world.
But right now it's just her and Xu An.
"She picked up something she shouldn't have."
The man leaned back on the sofa, raised his hand, and prepared to have the other two people search him directly.
Su Xiao suddenly attacked, kicking the man who was holding Lin Xi down.
We have to thank Yan Mingshen for this.
He rarely went home, and after experiencing a home invasion robbery, Su Xiao enrolled in a Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) class.
Xu An reacted quickly and helped Lin Xi up. The three of them stumbled and ran towards the stage.
In bars, the more people there are, the safer it is.
Neon tubes shone blindingly above the crowd's heads.
Su Xiao gripped Lin Xi's wrist tightly, while the latter's legs were so weak she could barely stand.
Xu An supported her arm from the other side.
The footsteps behind her grew closer, and heavy breathing almost pressed against the back of Su Xiao's neck.
"Run! Let's see where you can run!"
The man's voice was harsh.
Su Xiao pulled Lin Xi to hide behind the bar.
The people on the other side immediately blocked her way and grabbed Su Xiao by the back of her collar.
"Gotcha!"
The man grinned maliciously, pressing his knuckles against Su Xiao's shoulder blade.
Xu An tried to rush over to help, but was pushed by someone next to him and stumbled.
"Let go."
The force suddenly disappeared, and Su Xiao staggered forward two steps. The next second, a warm hand wrapped around her waist.
When she looked up, she met Xu Bozhou's cold eyes.
The suit jacket was casually draped over his arm, and the shirt collar accentuated the firm shoulder line.
The man who had just grabbed her had been thrown onto the nearby booth.
The impact made a loud "bang" as it hit the sofa armrest.
"Who gave you permission to touch her?"
Xu Bozhou's voice was laced with cold sharpness.
He shielded Su Xiao behind him, the coldness in his eyes making the man stop in his tracks.
His hand, which was about to step forward, froze in mid-air, and he didn't dare to move it anymore.
Su Xiao supported Xu Bozhou's arm.
The nerves that had been stretched to the limit suddenly relaxed, and the fingertips were still trembling slightly.
Xu An took the opportunity to pull Lin Xi to his side.
"Let's go home."
Xu Bozhou led Su Xiao out, and he gave Chen Huai a wink.
"Don't let any of these people get away."
"Understood, sir."
Chen Huai led his men into the bar, and the sounds of fighting immediately followed behind them.
The dark purple Rolls-Royce glided smoothly out of the bar parking lot.
The car was dark, and Xu Bozhou's expression was obscured by shadows.
The scent of cedar mixed with the lingering smell of alcohol in the air was oppressive, making it hard to breathe.
"Su Xiao, do you think you're a great fighter?" he suddenly asked, his voice cold.
"With that hand that's not fully healed yet, you dare to go head-to-head with someone?"
Su Xiao turned her head to look at the neon lights flashing past the window, without replying.
She was indeed frightened and didn't have the energy to argue with Xu Bozhou.
The more silent she remained, the angrier Xu Bozhou became.
She'd even get into a fight with complete strangers in a bar.
But when faced with him, all that remained was silence.
A surge of anger mixed with a sour feeling welled up inside him, and he slammed on the brakes.
Inertia caused Su Xiao to lean forward subconsciously.
Before she could react, Xu Bozhou had already leaned over and placed his hand on the car door beside her.
The distance between the two was instantly shortened.
He was so close, his nose was almost touching hers.
Their breaths mingled together in an ambiguous way.
Su Xiao's heartbeat suddenly became erratic.
Xu Bozhou looked into her wet eyes, and his Adam's apple bobbed.
But in the end, he only restrained himself and pulled the seat belt on her side.
His fingertips, calloused slightly, brushed against the skin on her waist, causing Su Xiao to stiffen and her ears to instantly burn.
Xu Bozhou seemed oblivious, or perhaps it was intentional, as he slowed down his grip on the seatbelt buckle.
Even the slightest brush of his fingertips against her fabric could make her heart skip a beat.
The only sound in the carriage was the intertwined breathing of the two people.
After fastening his seatbelt, Xu Bozhou did not immediately straighten up.
He stared at her reddened ear tips for two seconds.
Suddenly, he reached out and ruffled her hair.
The force was a bit heavy, carrying a hint of venting anger.
He ruffled her originally neat bangs into a mess, as if venting his anger and worry that he hadn't been able to control earlier.
"Don't let it happen again, Su Xiao."
"......Um."
Su Xiao nodded, her face already flushed red to her ears.
In the back seat, Xu An pretended to be busy and pulled Lin Xi to look at the tablet that wasn't even turned on.
Lin Xi never expected that she would get such gossip just by going out, and she cowered like a quail on the side.
Xu Bozhou packed up the group and delivered them to Xu An's house, then drove back to deal with the people at the bar.
Xu An led the two upstairs.
Lin Xi's condition is unstable right now, and there's no guarantee there aren't other people outside.
It's safer to stay here.
"Tell me, what did you find that made them chase you like this?"
Xu An leaned back on the sofa, opened a bottle of orange juice, and handed it to Lin Xi.
Su Xiao was also very curious.
She had just realized that the person leading the group looked familiar.
I feel like I've seen this somewhere before.
"It's just the surface of a round fan."
Lin Xi didn't intend to hide it from the two of them.
She unbuttoned her shirt, took out the silk fan from the collar, and handed it to Su Xiao.
She was originally supposed to be taken directly to the police station, but while waiting for a car nearby, she was pulled into a bar through the back door.
Lin Xi paused, then said somewhat embarrassedly:
"I was afraid it might be evidence of a crime, so I got into an argument with them, and then you guys arrived..."
Su Xiao took the fan and glanced at it, but was stunned.
This fan.
It was painted by her father.
However, it had already been ruined by her father's own hands a year earlier due to a failed exhibition.
How did I end up here...?
"Lin Xi..."
Su Xiao and Xu An exchanged a glance and then she spoke.
"It's not safe for you to carry this with you, so just leave it with me for now."
"Alright."
Lin Xi didn't think much of it.
Today's events were far beyond her capacity to cope, so it couldn't be better that Su Xiao was willing to help.
"Thank you, Team Leader Su."
"It's alright, go take a shower first, there's a bathroom in the guest room."
Su Xiao gave a brief explanation, and only after seeing Lin Xi enter the bathroom did she turn to look at Xu An.
"An'an, I remember who the leader was."
"ah?"
Xu An was completely confused by what she said.
"What exactly happened?"
"I've seen this person at the Yan family's old house."
Last year, when it was Yan's mother's birthday, she asked Su Xiao to deliver something to the backyard. She happened to bump into that person walking towards the basement.
She didn't remember his face from that fleeting glance, but she did remember the scar on his forehead.
"Moreover, this fan was something my father cut up last year, but now it has appeared in the hands of the Yan family intact."
"you mean......"
Xu An slowly raised his head to look at Su Xiao.
