Chapter Seventy-Two: Retaliating Against Old Madam Su
He simply couldn't accept Su Xiao standing with other people, especially the one from the Xu family.
People who come from humble backgrounds often use dirty tricks behind the scenes.
"Chance?"
Su Xiao subconsciously took half a step back, as if she had gotten something dirty on her.
Hadn't she given him enough opportunities before?
He not only ignored his father's funeral arrangements, but he even had an affair with Xia Zhi at the funeral...
Now that she's stopped catering to him, he's pretending to be all lovey-dovey. He chose this path himself, so why should she give him another chance?
"Yan Mingshen, do you have a bad memory?"
She paused, then gently poked her chest with her fingertip.
"Even without Xia Zhi, when I used to wait for you to come home, from dusk till dawn, did you ever worry about me even once?"
How could she not be sad after three years of living in an empty house?
Su Xiao looked at his face, which turned pale instantly, and felt no emotion whatsoever, only disgust:
"I gave you a chance, but you threw it away yourself."
She turned her head to look at the Rolls-Royce not far away.
"I've given up now. I don't want to deal with this mess anymore, and I can't afford to waste any more time on it."
"Xiaoxiao..."
Yan Mingshen's face darkened completely, his clenched fists turned white at the knuckles, and his Adam's apple bobbed.
Does she really want to throw a tantrum at him?
In these three years, besides not sleeping with her, what else has he done to wrong her?
They have the best of everything in terms of food, clothing, and daily necessities.
He would bring her anything she liked, even the slightest mention of it, to her home.
What else could she possibly be dissatisfied with?
Since she still likes him, why don't they move back and live a good life together?
Why do you have to make him unhappy like this?
Just then, the soft sound of a car door closing came from afar, and the dark purple headlights of the Rolls-Royce flashed once; Xu Bozhou had finished his phone call.
Su Xiao's eyes brightened slightly, and she subconsciously turned around, completely turning her back to Yan Mingshen.
Xu Bozhou had clearly witnessed what had just happened. A faint hint of coldness flashed in his eyes, then he smiled and raised his chin at Su Xiao: "Have you been waiting long?"
Su Xiao walked over quickly, shook her head, and was about to say "no" when he put his arm around her waist and pulled her close.
Yan Mingshen behind him looked as if he had been pricked by a needle, his face turning as black as the bottom of a pot.
"Xu Bozhou, don't go too far."
He watched as Su Xiao leaned against Xu Bozhou's chest, her face softening – a sight he hadn't seen in the past three years.
He felt a tightness in his chest, but he couldn't express it.
Su Xiao stared at the pearl brooch on Xu Bozhou's suit that echoed the one on her lapel, and whispered:
"Let's go inside, the birthday banquet should begin."
Xu Bozhou hummed in agreement, and as he lowered his head, his breath gently brushed against the top of her head, his tone coaxing: "Okay."
The two walked side by side into the old house, Xu Bozhou's hand always on Su Xiao's waist, his pace slowed down to match her speed.
Yan Mingshen stood frozen in place, watching their overlapping figures, his eyes brimming with resentment and jealousy.
As soon as I stepped into the living room of the old house, the noise and sandalwood incense wafted towards me.
Zhou Manyun was sitting on the mahogany sofa next to Old Mrs. Su, holding a cup of Longjing tea in her hand, her eyes crinkling with a smile:
"Grandma, you're getting healthier every year."
Grandma Su, dressed in a crimson embroidered floral funeral gown, twirled two shiny walnuts in her hands and gave a soft "hmm".
The atmosphere between the two was fairly harmonious until she caught a glimpse of Su Xiao following Xu Bozhou into the doorway.
The old lady frowned, and her face darkened.
"That kid Ming Shen?"
Zhou Manyun spoke first, her gaze lingering on the intertwined figures of Su Xiao and Xu Bozhou, her tone reproachful:
"Why are you only arriving now? The old lady has been waiting for you for quite a while."
Before Su Xiao could speak, Old Mrs. Su paused in her hand, which was picking walnuts, and spoke in a somber voice:
"So you still know how to come back?"
Upon hearing this, the guests who had been chatting and laughing all fell silent, their eyes turning to Su Xiao.
There were too many people, so Su Xiao had to give her some face and spoke up to comfort her:
"Something urgent came up, so I was delayed at the door for a while."
Xu Bozhou raised an eyebrow: "Grandma, today is your birthday banquet, why be so blunt?"
The Xu family is currently enjoying great success, and although the old lady intended to make things difficult for them, she had no choice but to give up.
Seeing this, Zhou Manyun lowered her eyes and took a sip of tea:
"Mr. Xu, you're being too polite. The old lady is just close to Xiaoxiao, that's why she said a few more words."
"Besides, family members don't hold grudges overnight. Xiaoxiao, quickly offer the old lady a cup of tea, apologize, and this matter will be over."
As she spoke, she gave a wink to the maid beside her.
The servant walked over quickly, carrying a white porcelain teacup. Steam was still rising from the cup, indicating that it was freshly brewed, piping hot tea.
Su Xiao looked at the cup of tea emitting white steam, her fingertips trembling slightly.
She's sensitive to heat, and she used to let hot water cool down for a while before pouring it at home, but now, in front of so many people, she can't hide it.
"What? You're afraid to answer?"
Grandma Su glanced at her sideways, her tone dripping with sarcasm, "You can't even serve a cup of tea properly, what can we expect from you?"
Just as Xu Bozhou was about to reach out to take it, Su Xiao gently tugged at his sleeve.
She gave him a reassuring look, bit her lip, and reached out to take the cup of tea.
The moment her fingertips touched the cup, she "accidentally" knocked it over, spilling scalding hot tea onto the back of Grandma Su's hand.
"Ouch!"
Grandma Su immediately screamed, abruptly pulled her hand back, and pointed at Su Xiao's nose while cursing.
"Are you doing this on purpose?! You're such a grown man, and you can't even hold a cup of tea properly. I think you're just ill-mannered!"
Zhou Manyun quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe the old lady's hands, but pretended to offer advice:
"Grandma, please don't be angry. Xiaoxiao didn't mean it. Maybe the tea was too hot... But Xiaoxiao, you're so careless. Grandma is so old, how can she withstand such treatment?"
I'm so sorry.
As Su Xiao listened to the accusations echoing from both sides, Xi also wiped his hands as usual and poured a cup of warm tea on the small table next to him.
"Shall I offer you a toast again?"
She handed him the teacup.
"you......"
Grandma Su raised her hand to take it, but she nimbly dodged it.
"Since you don't need it, then forget it."
She picked up the teacup and drank it all in one gulp, then placed the empty cup on the low table next to the old lady.
"Since Grandma cares about the younger generation and is worried that I'll get a dry throat from talking for too long, then I won't hold back."
Grandma Su was so angry that she clutched her chest tightly, her face turning pale and then red, but she couldn't lash out, so she could only wave her hand irritably.
"Get out of here...get out of the way and don't linger in front of me!"
"Okay, Grandma."
Su Xiao deliberately emphasized the word "grandmother," her voice sly.
As the two walked toward the corner, Su Xiao could feel a gaze fixed on her back, and she glanced back.
Zhou Manyun was putting down her teacup, her fingertips slowly stroking the rim, her eyes unfathomable.
Since Yan Mingshen has already investigated Xia Zhi's side, she might as well help him out...
