"No, didn't I say I'd let you have it all to yourself?"
Jing Yan pulled Yue Jiang's collar together, slowly calming the turmoil in his heart. Fortunately, he was able to control himself.
After realizing Yue Jiang's intention, Jing Yan chuckled silently, "Jiang'er, you're throwing yourself into my arms to test me, aren't you?"
"Your Highness, your words make it sound like I'm full of scheming. Do you think my desire to get close to you is all a test?"
She wasn't really testing him; she was deliberately trying to make Jing Yan think she was testing him.
If you haven't truly spent your whole life with Jing Yan, and easily believe his words about wanting to possess him exclusively, it's tantamount to digging your own grave.
Yue Jiang will be pregnant for more than half a year. She is carefree and can focus on her pregnancy. She can't let Jing Yan see that she is carefree.
Next year, someone might take the opportunity to send someone to the Eastern Palace. She can't afford to waste her energy worrying about external matters. The best solution is to let Jing Yan handle everything outside.
Then he should always keep himself in mind and think three steps ahead before acting, instead of always nagging and complaining to Jing Yan first.
Yue Jiang stepped out of Jing Yan's arms, turned away to wipe her tears, and said, "Your Highness, I love you so much that I forgot I was pregnant."
"You reminded me, but I'm not indifferent to it. I love my child too, how could I let anything happen to him for no reason? Where did Your Highness's probing come from?"
"If Your Highness finds my overthinking offensive, you may leave. When I give birth, I will have someone bring the child to you. After that, please don't spoil the child anymore, lest it become another test of Your Highness."
After she finished speaking, Yue Jiang's sobbing continued incessantly.
The incessant sobbing of Yue Jiang, her heartbroken state, subtly affected Jing Yan's thoughts.
He reached out and held Yue Jiang's shoulder, pulling her back into his arms and patting her back gently from time to time.
"Alright, Jiang'er, stop crying, or you'll hurt your eyes."
"It's my own fault for hurting my eyes, Your Highness doesn't need to feel sorry for me," Yue Jiang said, giving Jing Yan a push that was half-hearted, but she didn't manage to push him through. She then whimpered, "Your Highness was being unreasonable first."
Jing Yan sighed and relented, saying, "Fine, fine, I won't reason with you."
He admitted it verbally, but he didn't doubt his intuition. Yue Jiang was clearly testing his resolve, and even asked him personally if he would look for someone else.
He couldn't possibly be wrong.
Jing Yan is undoubtedly responsible for making Yue Jiang disregard her health, feel anxious and uneasy so early in her pregnancy, and even cry like this. He must have failed to give her peace of mind.
Where exactly did it go wrong?
Jing Yan couldn't figure it out for a moment, so he hugged Yue Jiang and comforted her for a while. Soon after, Qing Ke and Qing Fei brought out breakfast and served the dishes.
Yue Jiang had just cried and didn't have a good appetite. After eating only a few bites, she complained of eye pain and instructed Qingke and Qingfei to help her rest.
Jing Yan had said he would have lunch with Yue Jiang, so he had no intention of leaving. He was about to walk back to her bedside with her, but Yue Jiang did not want him to come and rest with her.
Before pulling down the curtain, he spoke cautiously.
"Your Highness, please go back and review your memorials. I dare not invite you to bed, lest I test you again."
“Jiang…” Before Jing Yan could finish speaking, Yue Jiang slapped her lips and yawned: “Your Highness, you should go back quickly. Don’t delay state affairs, or someone from Xiande Hall will come to urge you again.”
Jing Yan: "..."
Immediately, Jing Yan saw through the curtain that Yue Jiang's blurry figure was lifting the blanket, and in the blink of an eye, she turned to her side and fell asleep.
He hadn't figured out Yue Jiang's attitude yet, and he was worried about leaving now.
Jing Yan paced around the room, walked to Yue Jiang's dressing table and rummaged through it for a bit. He happened to see a stack of books in the corner, and he remembered that he had left a few of them with Yue Jiang.
He picked up a book at random, without paying attention to the title. When he opened it, Jing Yan's lips twitched. Yue Jiang was really careless, just leaving this kind of book lying around.
Jingyan put the book back in its original place and stopped reading other books. Instead, he summoned Yuejiang's maid and asked her to bring Shang Yu over to check if Yuejiang's eyes were alright.
Yue Jiang slept for half an hour, and Jing Yan sat on the couch, watching over her through the gauze curtain for half an hour.
Finally, there was movement inside. Yue Jiang called out to Qing Fei a few times, but it was Jing Yan who came in and helped her get dressed.
Yue Jiang's eyes were no longer red, and she smiled at Jing Yan, as if she hadn't had a fight at all.
"Your Highness, why haven't you left yet?"
Jing Yan looked into Yue Jiang's eyes and asked with concern, "Does your eye still hurt?"
"It wasn't too bad when it hurt, and now it's all over, Your Highness, so don't worry," Yue Jiang said gently, rubbing her eyes.
She looked at the funnel in the hall; there was still more than an hour before lunch, and Yue Jiang urged Jing Yan.
“Your Highness, you have never spent this much time with me before. You’ll have to stay up all night to read the memorials you’ve missed. At worst, I can have someone send you a meal at lunchtime. I don’t want you to be working so hard until late at night.”
Yue Jiang suddenly became incredibly considerate, yet every word she uttered revolved around urging him to return to Xiande Palace.
Jingyan usually remembers the time he arrives at Yichun Palace, the number of days, and the time he stays there. When Yuejiang is reluctant to part with him, she will occasionally try to persuade him to stay.
Jing Yan was used to these things, but this time Yue Jiang took the initiative to "drive" him away. He should have taken it lightly, but he didn't feel very good about it.
He concealed his unease, called out to Shang Yu, and then turned back to explain to Yue Jiang.
“You just had a good cry, how can I be at ease? I’ve already called Shang Yu over, let him check your eyes first to see if there’s anything wrong.”
Before Yue Jiang could say anything, Shang Yu had already entered and taken her pulse.
Shang Yu pondered: "The Crown Princess's eyes are fine, but she was frightened yesterday. Fortunately, she has a good constitution and was not greatly affected."
