Chapter 140: A delegation from various countries arrives; An Chenghuan sends envoys with marriage proposals.

When Yue Jiang woke up, she was still groggy. But when she heard Qing Ke mention Jing Yan, her tired eyes widened instantly, and she became wide awake.

"You mean His Highness has arrived now?"

Qingke nodded in agreement.

Just as she finished speaking those two sentences, there was a knock on the door of Yue Jiang's bedroom. She told Qing Ke to open it.

Yue Jiang got off the bed, found an outer garment to put on, and after walking a few steps, Jing Yan's figure went straight in and stood in front of her.

The candles inside the hall had not yet been fully lit, and large areas of shadow obscured the view, making it difficult to see people's faces.

Only when the palace servants busily lit candles on the candlesticks did Jing Yan's tall and broad figure slowly cast irregular shadows on the wall, gradually becoming clearer in front of Yue Jiang.

She glanced at him and was shocked to find that Jing Yan's hair was messy and his forehead was stained with black ash, remembering that he had just escaped death.

Yue Jiang was shocked and pulled Jing Yan to check on him: "Your Highness, how could Xiande Hall be on fire? Are you alright?"

Jing Yan cleared his throat. Because he had been exposed to thick smoke and had walked a long way to reach Yichun Palace, his throat was extremely dry and had a hoarse, turbid quality.

"The candlestick fell over because I wasn't paying attention. Xiande Hall is quite badly burned. I'm fine, but Xiande Hall needs to be repaired, so I'll need to stay with Jiang'er for the time being."

"Jiang'er won't send me away and make me go back to reviewing memorials, will she?"

As he finished speaking, Jing Yan subtly observed Yue Jiang's expression, his words laced with a hint of teasing.

Yue Jiang wanted Jing Yan to care about her to the point of sleeplessness, but before she could disregard his safety, things had already turned out this way. What else could she say?

Yue Jiang turned around and walked to the table, picked up a handkerchief and came back to wipe Jing Yan's forehead, sighing.

"Your Highness is in such a state, is there any place in Xiande Hall to review memorials? It's so late at night, doesn't Your Highness know to go to sleep first? You'll be busy tomorrow?"

"Can His Highness's body withstand this every day?"

Jingyan's forehead was covered in burnt wood ash, which was neither easy nor difficult to wipe off, but Jingyan was indeed a head taller than Yuejiang, so Yuejiang had to stand on tiptoe.

Jing Yan noticed her diligent wiping and nagging.

Jing Yan lowered his head slightly, and Yue Jiang lowered her tiptoes as well.

Then Jing Yan said with a wry smile, "I can't stand it. A big fire broke out and burned me to Jiang'er's place."

Yue Jiang paused, her gaze falling on Jing Yan's face. Seeing that his face practically screamed "helplessness," she frowned.

"So, Your Highness is very wronged. Then I will make room for you."

"Jiang'er," before Yue Jiang could fully turn around, Jing Yan wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her back into his embrace, stroking Yue Jiang's hair with his chin.

"I am not aggrieved, but I am afraid that Jiang'er will be aggrieved. Would you be willing to take in a homeless person like me?"

Yue Jiang didn't turn around immediately, and snorted, "You won't accept it?"

Jing Yan said self-deprecatingly, "If I don't accept it, I'll just have to make do in a corner of Yichun Palace. Tomorrow morning, the news that I can't get into the Crown Princess's room will spread throughout the palace. The court officials might even laugh at me when they hear it."

Yue Jiang: "Fine, then I'll not only become a wicked woman, but I'll also attract a lot of people to scold me, saying that I'm mean to you, the dignified Crown Prince, and don't care about my husband."

Jing Yan nodded slowly and deliberately, as if he completely agreed with Yue Jiang's words, and raised his eyebrows confidently.

"That's right, I have plenty of powerful backers. Let's see if the Crown Princess dares to bully me."

Yue Jiang couldn't help but burst into laughter. She laughed so hard that her whole body trembled, and she bent over, making sarcastic remarks.

"Yes, yes, yes, I'm terrified. I wouldn't dare to be mean to my husband, and I wouldn't dare to let Your Highness sleep in a corner of Yichun Palace."

"Then can I share half of Jiang'er's bed?" Jing Yan saw that Yue Jiang was laughing so hard she was almost sitting on the ground, so he helped her turn around to face him.

Yue Jiang tilted her head back and retorted, "It's as if Your Highness has never shared a bed with me before... Ugh."

Before she could finish speaking, a wave of nausea washed over her. She covered her mouth and tried to vomit, but nothing came out.

When Jing Yan first saw Yue Jiang like this, he was very worried and gently patted her back to comfort her.

"Jiang'er, is this morning sickness?"

Yue Jianghui's eyes were red and swollen, a tear uncontrollably hanging from the corner of her eye, and she nodded in a muffled voice.

"Your Highness, I can't stand the smell of firewood on you. Please go and wash up."

She felt unwell when Jing Yan came, but she was able to control it. However, the longer she stayed with Jing Yan, the more uncomfortable she felt.

I couldn't even finish a sentence before I turned around; I just couldn't take it anymore.

Jingyan had heard people say that pregnant women experience morning sickness and may dislike smells and foods that they previously didn't care about.

However, some lucky pregnant women experience no discomfort or symptoms at all and remain healthy until delivery.

Since Yue Jiang had shown no signs of illness these past few days, Jing Yan assumed that Yue Jiang was lucky.

Seeing how uncomfortable she was, Jing Yan quickly let go of her and took a few steps back.

He only spoke after Yue Jiang's brows relaxed.

"Jiang'er, are you feeling better?"

"Much better," Yue Jiang said, smoothing her chest with her hands. Once the discomfort subsided, she looked up and was surprised to find that Jing Yan was five or six steps away from her, looking cautious and hesitant to approach.

Yue Jiang found Jing Yan's behavior amusing and couldn't bear to see him afraid of rushing towards her, so she stepped forward and didn't mind touching him at all.

"Your Highness, I am very tired. You should take a bath and then come back to rest."

It was getting late. Seeing that Yue Jiang was much better, Jing Yan didn't linger any longer. After asking Yue Jiang a few questions, he went to take a bath.

While Jingyan was taking a bath, Yuejiang went back to bed and lay down to wait for him, but she fell asleep as she lay there.
