"It's so good that I can't come back. This wedding dress suddenly appearing on me feels like I'm getting married today," Jing Ning looked down at her fiery red dress, gave a self-deprecating bitter smile, and as she smiled, tears welled up in her eyes. She spread her arms and asked the crowd.
Do you think it looks good?
No one said anything, and they turned their heads slightly.
Before Jingning could say anything more, people from the other end of the passageway hurriedly arrived, including those of Empress Dowager Zheng and Consort Zheng.
"Princess, Princess, what are you doing here? Come back with us quickly! The Empress Dowager and Consort De are frantic with worry."
A large group of at least a dozen people, young and old, ran towards Jingning while shouting.
Jingning watched them rush towards her, as if they could grab her back in no time, and then she bid farewell to Yuejiang.
"Sister-in-law, thank you for comforting me. You are right. I should find some things I enjoy so that life won't be too difficult. I'll go back now."
Before leaving, Jing Ning bowed deeply to Yu Chuxuan, and only after a long while did she straighten up and express her gratitude.
"Ninth Prince, thank you very much. Apart from my sister-in-law, you are the only person who has sincerely comforted me. I hope you can return to Yu Kingdom as soon as possible."
Yu Chuxuan's arrival in Jing Kingdom was due to an agreement reached between the Emperor and Jing Kingdom, in which the Emperor wanted a princess from Jing Kingdom. Naturally, this unpopular person had a use, and they could throw him over.
Now, a princess from the Jing Kingdom wishes him a speedy return to the Yu Kingdom, and Yu Chuxuan can feel Jing Ning's sincerity.
"Thank you, Princess Jingning," he said, bowing with his hands clasped in thanks.
The people who had come in pursuit of Jing Ning were almost upon them when Yue Jiang stepped forward and reprimanded them.
“What kind of behavior is it to shout and make a scene in the Eastern Palace? I am being married off to the Jing Kingdom. The princess thinks we have something in common, but she just wants to come and see me in my wedding dress to comfort my anxiety about being married off to a distant place.”
"Are you making such a fuss in the palace to make Jing and Yu a laughing stock among the other nations?"
"We wouldn't dare! Princess Jingning suddenly ran away without saying a word in front of the Empress Dowager and Consort De. Our masters were anxious and sent us to chase after her. We were in a panic!"
"Did I send you here to chase after her and make a scene? Do you think I'll personally escort Princess Jingning back to Changshou Palace while she's making a scene?"
“Personally ask Grandmother Zheng if this was her way of showing concern for Princess Jingning’s eventual marriage to the Jade Kingdom.”
"We dare not, we were presumptuous, please forgive us, Your Highness."
Jingning looked at the people kneeling on the ground. Among them were not only her mother's palace servants, but also those from the palace of the Empress Dowager Zheng.
Having always served as a palace servant to the most honored person in the palace, she had a bigger temper than the average palace servant. With someone backing her up, even her master could give her a lecture.
Jingning often visited Changshou Palace to learn about the older nannies there, who were very good at treating the emperor's concubines by their own preferences.
She has a gentle nature, and even though she is a princess, some people who have watched her grow up like to act superior and say a few words to her.
There are three or four people inside right now, and these people are actually afraid of the Empress Dowager just because she yelled at them.
Jingning stared at Yuejiang in great shock. Yuejiang took Jingning's hand and began to instruct her.
“Jingning, sometimes temper is the most frightening thing. As long as you are in the right, being a little tough and forceful in your methods will keep the people under you in check.”
"Otherwise, they'll take advantage of your kindness and become increasingly arrogant," Yue Jiang jokingly whispered in Jing Ning's ear, offering a reminder.
"Learn from Jingyi's temper. You don't need to be as unreasonable as her, but the way she gets angry is terrifying."
"Can I?" Jing Ning hesitated.
Yue Jiang asked Yu Chuxuan beside her, "Ninth Prince, besides the Emperor of Yu Kingdom, are there any other high-ranking concubines or dowager consorts living in the palace to retire?"
“There are no imperial concubines to provide for the elderly in the palace, and as for the concubines…” A complex look flashed across Yu Chuxuan’s eyes, but it quickly disappeared.
The Crown Princess was trying to boost Princess Jingning's confidence and prestige; even if he was lying, he should at least make Princess Jingning feel more at ease.
"My father has been on the throne for a long time. The concubines who accompanied him in his early years have passed away one after another. They are all below the rank of Zhaoyi, less than ten in number, and there are no high-ranking concubines."
“Jingning, if that’s the case, then all that’s left are the palace maids, and they’re no different from the others,” Yuejiang encouraged her.
Jing Ning looked at Yue Jiang, then at Yu Chuxuan. Both of them gave her encouraging looks. She nodded: "I believe what my sister-in-law said, as well as the Ninth Prince."
Immediately afterwards, Jingning took two steps forward. Having grown up in the palace since childhood, she had a deep impression of the imposing manner her mother and grandmother displayed towards the palace servants. She learned quickly, her eyes firm yet containing a disdainful look.
"Get up, all of you. We won't let you off easily if you do it again!"
"Thank you, Princess Jingning," the palace servants said, bowing repeatedly in gratitude.
After saying no more, Jingning walked out of the East Palace, followed by the palace servants.
Yue Jiang gazed at Jing Ning, who was dressed in a phoenix-embroidered wedding gown and walked alone at the very front. Even though there were a large group of servants behind her, they seemed to be outside of her.
She was just encouraging Jingning to be strong, but in an unfamiliar place, it would be difficult for someone who is naturally gentle to pretend to be strong.
Moreover, judging from Yu Chuxuan's quick, evasive gaze, the Jade Kingdom's palace was probably not a good place. Yue Jiang looked back at Yu Chuxuan and sighed, "Thank you for comforting Jingning earlier, Ninth Prince."
"Princess Consort, please don't say that," Yu Chuxuan said, his eyes filled with guilt.
Rong Ying's eyes were sharp as blades: "It was all because of Empress Dowager Zheng's cleverness that Princess Jingning's life was ruined. If the Jade Kingdom is reduced to dust one day, it will be its own destruction. I hope Princess Jingning will have the opportunity to return to the country."
"I am, after all, a prince of the Jade Kingdom. How dare you say such things to me?" Yu Chuxuan said with a wry smile.
Rong Ying snorted: "I have a deep grudge. Unless you acknowledge him but not me, acknowledge your so-called imperial concubine mother but not..."
