Chapter 201 Yue Jiang Analyzes the Situation in Chen Qi

Jing Yan smiled knowingly: "Look, isn't Jiang'er panicking now?"

Yue Jiang was already frowning with worry, but Jing Yan remained nonchalant. Her anxious heart instantly calmed down, realizing that Jing Yan must have a backup plan that he hadn't told her.

Yue Jiang snorted softly; the child in her arms had already fallen asleep. She got up, put Zhang'er in the crib, and sat back down on the edge of the bed, ignoring Jing Yan and saying nothing more.

Yue Jiang suddenly turned her face away and didn't ask anything, which puzzled Jing Yan.

"Did I say something wrong? Why are you angry? Are you upset that I didn't tell you about the danger?"

Yue Jiang was sewing Zhang'er's tiger-head shoes when she heard Jing Yan's words, and her needlework paused.

Does she not care enough about Jingyan, like him, or rely on him enough in her daily life?

However, Yue Jiang sensed in Jing Yan's words that if there was any danger, she would definitely run away first.

Although Yue Jiang cherishes her life, it doesn't mean she has no humanity. Where did Jing Yan's unease come from?

Her words were barbed: "What does Your Highness think of me? I want to worry about whether my husband is in danger, but Your Highness only treats me like a pampered flower in the golden palace, not letting me worry about the wind and rain."

"You still think I'm a heartless and ungrateful woman. When trouble comes, you don't care about our marital bond. You only abandon Your Highness and run away for your life. That's why you refuse to be honest with me."

"Do you think that if I told you, I wouldn't be able to help you at all?"

Yue Jiang waited a long time for Jing Yan's reply, and she felt a little disappointed. She guessed that Jing Yan's response would be the latter.

While Yue Jiang remained silent, she tried her best to suppress the slight discomfort in her heart.

What's the big deal? She originally married out of the Moon Kingdom just to make her life better.

If Jing Kingdom really suffers a disaster, Yue Jiang, as the Crown Princess of a country, will have a very difficult time during the days of national subjugation unless she dies.

Jing Yan treated her very well; when they were desperate, they were willing to die together.

If she could escape, Yue Jiang would most likely leave. Once she understood this, she felt much better. This way, it wouldn't be Jing Yan unilaterally betraying her. So she buried herself in sewing the tiger-head shoes again.

No sooner had the needle pierced the cloth than Jing Yan's words rang in her ears: "If there ever comes a day when I can no longer protect you, Jiang'er can abandon me."

Yue Jiang's hand suddenly stopped.

As soon as she turned around, she saw Jing Yan's gaze fall on Zhang'er in the baby carriage. Zhang'er was a chubby, fair-skinned little bundle of joy. Even in his sleep, he would occasionally grin, which made Jing Yan's lips curl into a smile.

Yue Jiang heard Jing Yan continue speaking: "Don't worry about Zhang'er, lest he become a burden to you."

His words contained no disappointment, no contempt, and no sarcastic tone of complaint or resentment. It was as if he were genuinely making a decision for Yue Jiang and hoping for her well-being.

For some reason, Yue Jiang's eyes started to sting, and her embroidery needle, still attached to its thread, dangled in mid-air. Jing Yan noticed this and quickly picked it up for her, then put it aside, saying with concern.

"You've already been pricked once and you're still so careless. Even if you don't do it, there are so many people in the palace, Zhang'er has plenty of servants to take care of him."

“You enjoy tinkering with spices, and you suffered for ten months because of your pregnancy with Zhang’er. Now that you can touch them again, you can do those things that soothe your mind.”

"How did Your Highness know that I was pricked because of carelessness?" Yue Jiang's words carried a hint of smugness.

Before she could finish speaking, a tear fell onto Jing Yan's hand.

Jing Yan was stunned. He should have been comforting him, but this single tear had thrown his heartstrings into disarray, leaving him at a loss.

Jing Yan was used to seeing Yue Jiang's tears; many of them were just attempts to coax and deceive him.

But his intuition told him that Yue Jiang's tears this time were slightly different.

When another tear fell from Yue Jiang's eyes, Jing Yan finally came to his senses, raised his hand to wipe it away, and teased her.

"Okay, it's not that you were careless, it's my fault. It's because you got pricked that I feel so guilty."

"So you think that I only care about you when you cry to me. Don't try to get my attention with tears next time. You've had enough tears from before."

Yue Jiang found it increasingly absurd, as if she had already stored up a lot of tears with Jing Yan.

"Your Highness, you must not say hurtful things."

Jing Yan: "..."

What hurtful things did I say?

Yue Jiang gave him a light reproachful look, and Jing Yan instantly understood, making no mention of his earlier words about making Yue Jiang abandon her husband and children.

Given the declaration of war by Chen and Qi, Jing cannot remain a bystander forever; Jing Yan will inevitably lead his army into battle one day.

He needed to explain the situation to Yue Jiang so that she could feel at ease being alone in Jing Palace.

“Jiang’er, you don’t need to worry about the war between Chen and Qi spreading to Jing. Rong Ying and I have discussed it in detail and have come up with a way to break the deadlock. It should be Yu Kingdom the summer after next.”

"The key to breaking the deadlock lies in the Jade Kingdom?" Yue Jiang asked in surprise.

Jing Yan nodded.

In fact, Jing Yan had long noticed that the two countries of Chen and Qi had developed to the point of being at war, and through his observation, he learned that it was the Yu Kingdom and the An Kingdom that were working together behind the scenes.

The two countries of Chen and Qi are neighbors and were once diplomatic allies. Some people could see each other from a distance, separated by a river or a mountain.

Because of their proximity, there has been an unwritten rule for centuries that people on the border can frequently travel between each other, for everything from small-scale trade to large-scale weddings.

In fact, this method has already caused dissatisfaction in the courts of both Chen and Qi, because it is possible that after the marriage, the population of one country will decrease, or the land of the other country will fall into the pocket of the other.

In trade, due to differences in currency, some unscrupulous merchants deliberately interfere, often resulting in both sides suffering losses.

Shortly after Jingning married into the Yu Kingdom, Jingyan heard that the Yu Kingdom and the An Kingdom, one to Chen and the other to Qi, were having close ties.

Then the conflict between Chen and Qi became increasingly serious, and the border residents who frequently caused trouble had to report to the authorities for handling.
