Chapter 21 Jing Yan actually wanted to kiss her.

"Edible?" Jing Yan frowned, looking at the bright red stain on his finger in disbelief. He then looked up at Yue Jiang, her words echoing in his mind, and a faint fragrance wafted towards his nose.

He may not understand relationships between men and women very well, but he's not completely ignorant of them.

The act of eating rouge is something that, apart from passionate moments and sexual intercourse between men and women, is often considered a romantic affair by those who indulge in eating, drinking, and merrymaking.

Jing Yan didn't mean to belittle these kinds of romantic relationships, but he and Yue Jiang didn't have any romantic feelings for each other, so he really couldn't do such a thing.

How could the Moon Kingdom have this custom?

Seeing Jing Yan hesitate, Yue Jiang's voice choked with emotion: "Does Your Highness dislike me?"

“Of course not,” Jing Yan sighed awkwardly, and could only make an excuse: “Jiang’er, we are not married yet, so such behavior is not appropriate.”

However, the excuse used this time was far less convincing than the one used last time.

His behavior resembled that of a dissolute young man who had taken liberties with a respectable young woman but was unwilling to take responsibility.

A tear fell sadly from Yue Jiang's eye, sliding down her cheek and landing on the brocade pillow with a soft thud, seeping into it.

She gently turned to the side, carrying Jing Yan on her back, her voice choked with sobs.

"I am always ignorant of etiquette, and I don't know if Your Highness thinks I am an extremely licentious woman who needs Your Highness to remind me of etiquette again and again."

"I will not force Your Highness. Now that I have married into the Jing Kingdom, the affairs of my former motherland are a thing of the past. I will forget them completely and will not be bothered by such trivial customs. Your Highness, please go and attend to your own affairs."

After speaking, Yue Jiang closed her eyes. Jing Yan could no longer see the changes in her emotions, but could see a slight tremor on her thin shoulders.

Jing Yan sighed again, feeling troubled. To be fair, Yue Jiang's behavior was excessive.

Every now and then, she would pluck a string in his heartstrings, causing ripples to appear in his calm state of mind.

Whether it's shock, confusion, or helplessness...

But there was always a reason for it. If he hadn't gone out of his way to touch her this time, she wouldn't have pounced on him, and the rouge wouldn't have gotten on her.

Rong Ying later told him that it was true that women dress up for those they love.

But when a girl reaches the age of fifteen and begins to dress herself up, what girl has a man she likes as soon as she learns how to do makeup?

Before pleasing others, one must first please oneself. In a woman's eyes, rouge and face powder are first and foremost a joyful act of self-cultivation. She cannot tolerate exposing even the slightest trace of makeup in front of others, for that would be a disgrace.

If a man were to easily obtain rouge from a woman's face and then mock and scorn her to her face, it would be tantamount to destroying her spirit.

Could it be that Yue Jiang considered Jing Yan's actions just now to be humiliating?

He shook his head, clearing his mind of distractions: "Jiang'er, you are the Crown Princess I am going to marry. You shouldn't use words like 'licentious' to humiliate yourself. I don't blame you for being ignorant of etiquette."

"It's just that we live in two different countries and have different perspectives. If I knew that the Moon Kingdom had this custom, I wouldn't have messed with you."

Jingyan heard that the Yue people are open-minded and tolerant of relationships between men and women, since both men and women in the Yue people can openly do business and are not bound by formalities.

Seeing that Yue Jiang was ignoring him, he stopped saying anything to annoy her and instead reached out to hold her shoulder, gently turning her around.

Yue Jiang did not resist. She turned around as Jing Yan moved, slowly reopening her tearful eyes. There were a few blood vessels in her eyes after she had just shed tears.

"Your Highness, why haven't you left yet?" Yue Jiang asked, still half asleep.

Jing Yan couldn't help but chuckle at these words, wondering why Yue Jiang would ask such a question.

"I've been talking to you for ages, didn't you hear me?"

Yue Jiang deliberately said, "I feel unwell all over. I cried a few times and my head went blank. I also have tinnitus."

She always knew that Jing Yan was by her side, but Jing Yan's attitude was cold and unmoved by Yue Jiang's pitiful words.

She thought she had gone too far and wanted to give everyone a way out, and Jing Yan could have easily taken this opportunity to leave.

Anyway, she definitely won't bring it up next time they meet, and Jing Yan is even less likely to bring it up on his own initiative.

Little did Yue Jiang know that Jing Yan would sit by her bedside for quite a while, but Yue Jiang no longer believed that he would actually eat it.

"Your Highness!" As her thoughts were racing, she suddenly felt a tingling sensation between her brows.

When she finally understood what was going on, she saw Jing Yan intently tracing her forehead with his index finger.

Was it drawn on her forehead?

A moment later, Jing Yan withdrew his hand, and Yue Jiang's tingling sensation subsided. She wanted to touch him but dared not, and looked up at Jing Yan.

"Your Highness, what did you draw on my forehead?"

Jing Yan: "A tiny crescent moon."

Meeting Yue Jiang's puzzled gaze, he explained, "I smudged your lip rouge, it was my fault, but I really couldn't do what I did in broad daylight."

Jing Yan spoke tactfully, saying that it would be some time before he married Yue Jiang, and they would talk about it after they actually entered the bridal chamber.

"I accidentally ruined your lips, so I'll restore your forehead makeup as an apology. Anyway, I didn't just throw away this lipstick, did I?"

“It’s not that it won’t work…” Yue Jiang’s eyes flashed with surprise. Jing Yan was quite resourceful.

However, men who aren't attracted to beautiful women are even harder to deal with.

"I'd like to see if the crescent moon Your Highness has painted looks good on my forehead," she said eagerly.

Jing Yan nodded, indicating that he would find a bronze mirror for Yue Jiang.

Yue Jiang pulled Jing Yan back, not wanting him to trouble himself: "Your Highness, the bronze mirror is not clear, I don't need to use it."

Jing Yan: "If we don't use a mirror, what will we use?"

Before he could finish speaking, Yue Jiang had already gotten up, supporting herself on the bed. Before Jing Yan noticed, Yue Jiang moved closer to him, less than an inch away.

Jing Yan instinctively wanted to push Yue Jiang away, but first heard her voice: "Your Highness, I saw it, it's beautiful!"

Slowly, Jing Yan realized that Yue Jiang was using his eyes as a mirror.

“You’re being too ridiculous,” he scolded lightly, then pulled Yue Jiang away.

Yue Jiang said aggrievedly, "Your Highness's eyes are beautiful, with a deep, clear look that's better than a bronze mirror. I want to see Your Highness's paintings clearly, since they'll be gone if I wash them off."

Just now, Jing Yan only pulled Yue Jiang away a little, and even now, Yue Jiang is only a few feet away from him.

Yue Jiang had an unknown, sweet, and rich fragrance about her. As he listened to her words and his gaze swept over her slightly parted red lips, Jing Yan felt a slight tingling sensation in his heart.

He quickly stood up, suppressing his emotions: "It's getting late, I'll be going now."

Before Yue Jiang could say anything more, Jing Yan had already strode out of the hall. Yue Jiang could only obediently bid him farewell to his departing figure, saying, "Your Highness, take care."

Jing Yan paused noticeably for a moment, then quickened his pace.

It wasn't until he stepped outside the hall and the clean air rushed into his body that Jing Yan was able to calm his breathing and return to normal.

He clenched his fists tightly. Just now, when he was facing Yue Jiang, Jing Yan had actually wanted to kiss her.

Despite Yue Jiang's repeated displays of enthusiasm and unintentional flirting, Jing Yan remained unmoved. However, after getting close to Yue Jiang, Jing Yan almost lost control.

Why?
