Yu Chuxuan slowly looked back at the head of the table, first intentionally focusing his gaze on Yue Jiang. An Chenghuan noticed this and glanced at Yue Jiang sideways.
Yue Jiang felt An Chenghuan and Yu Chuxuan scrutinizing her, their gazes differing, so she turned her face slightly away.
As Yue Jiang turned her face away, An Chenghuan's clear and absolute voice rang out: "The princess and I are about to get married. Others are none of the princess's business. Your Highness, please speak your mind."
After hearing this, Yu Chuxuan withdrew his gaze and naturally said, "Jing Yan somehow obtained my token last time and went to Yu Kingdom to borrow grain without asking. I didn't make a big deal out of it because the two countries are related by marriage."
"I thought we should just consider the grain as lost, but who knew that he really meant it when he said he was borrowing it. He returned the grain several months ago, but the timing of the return was really hard to explain to His Majesty Anguo."
"Jing Yan has plotted against Yu Guo many times. How dare Chu Yi conspire with him? It would be better for His Majesty An Guo to be honest with him. I am afraid that His Majesty An Guo may have reservations about Yu Guo. No matter how much I explain in the letter, it would be better to come in person."
"I congratulate His Majesty the King of Anguo on the grand wedding of the Princess of Yueguo, and their vow to grow old together."
After he finished speaking, he first picked up the wine on the table and drank it all in front of him.
An Chenghuan found Yu Chuyi's words reasonable; Jing Yan's act of returning grain to Yu before declaring war on An was not simple.
He suspected that Yu Kingdom and Jing Kingdom might have reached some kind of agreement. Even if Yu Kingdom replied, An Chenghuan would not fully trust it, for fear of letting a wolf into the house.
Since Yu Chuyi dared to come in person, his schemes and tricks were much less likely to succeed.
We can test the waters first. If Yu Chuyi is completely trustworthy, then next spring, after An Chenghuan and Yue Jiang get married, he can unite with the Yu Kingdom's army to completely defeat Jing Yan and make Jing Kingdom cease to exist in this world.
The long-standing feud between sworn enemies can then be resolved.
After pondering for a moment, An Chenghuan finished his drink.
After the officials had offered their toasts, the awkward atmosphere at the banquet had dissipated. An Chenghuan, in high spirits, personally poured a cup of wine and raised it to Yue Jiang.
"This is the princess's first New Year's Eve in Anguo. I would like to offer her a toast."
Yue Jiang raised her wine glass in response.
The moment the drink in her hand touched her lips, An Yunrui, who had drunk quite a bit due to her frustration, stared at them and chuckled, spouting drunken nonsense.
"The person who was stolen has finally been won back, but I wonder if their heart has been won back. Don't let them steal a vase that's just for show."
An Yunrui didn't notice the anxious expression on the face of the eunuch beside him, who wanted to persuade him but dared not. He got more and more excited as he talked, making sarcastic remarks.
"I heard that she has moved into the Phoenix Palace, but the Emperor has not yet summoned her. He has only been raising a wife for Jingyan."
“Your Majesty, you are drunk,” the eunuch, unable to bear it any longer, reminded him with his head down.
An Yunrui was indeed drunk, so drunk that he was dizzy and about to stand up while holding onto the table. It was unclear what he wanted to do when An Chenghuan suddenly spoke in a solemn voice.
"The Emperor Emeritus is drunk, isn't anyone going to take him back?"
Startled by the shout, three or five of An Yunrui's eunuchs hurriedly helped him up and led him out of the palace.
Once the hall was completely quiet, none of the Anguo officials dared to raise their heads. They all knew that although Yue Jiang was initially betrothed by Anguo, she had become the Crown Princess of Jingguo.
When they rescued her, His Majesty was destroying the Fu family. Even the Crown Princess of the Fu family was deposed and banished to the Cold Palace along with her unborn child. Her fate remains unknown to this day.
Who would dare to speak ill of Yue Jiang at this critical juncture? But she is, after all, a princess of the Yue Kingdom. The Yue Kingdom is wealthy, so marrying her wouldn't be a bad deal.
They never expected that their emperor would still not have favored Princess Yuejiang.
Yue Lang's face turned ashen with anger at An Yunrui. He suppressed his rage and said in a clear and loud voice, "Back then, it was all Jing Yan's fault for kidnapping my sister and deceiving her with words while she was suffering from amnesia."
“My Yue Kingdom is not a military power. Apart from compromise, we have no choice but to ask the Jing Kingdom for my sister back, which has caused my sister to miss her chance to marry His Majesty.”
"I never imagined that Your Majesty and my sister's fate was not severed and that they would be reunited one day. I thank Your Majesty for treating my sister with such courtesy."
He turned his face to Yue Jiang and said, "Sister, thank His Majesty for taking care of you in An Kingdom."
Yue Jiang was also angry that An Yunrui had acted drunk and crazy, and resented An Chenghuan for taking his anger out on her for no reason.
She couldn't afford to disrespect An Chenghuan, but she also needed to protect herself. She raised her glass in thanks and said, "Thank you for Your Majesty's care for Yue Jiang."
An Chenghuan was very annoyed, not because he was angry that he and Yue Jiang had not yet officially become husband and wife. Compared with the current national affairs, his personal feelings were insignificant.
However, his own father, Emperor An Yunrui, was becoming increasingly outrageous.
If it were someone else, what difference would it make if he killed them? His hands have been stained with blood for the past year.
But having already seized the throne, he didn't want to be branded with the infamous reputation of patricide and treason.
But we can't let him cause trouble like this; An Chenghuan must be dealt with.
Yue Jiang surprised him, after all, it's more interesting when a woman like Yue Jiang, who has been trained, is willing to do so.
He was really stubborn and inflexible. He thought that if he couldn't win him over, he would always have the time to tame him.
Now, seeing Yue Jiang becoming more and more gentle each day, An Chenghuan's unhappy heart was soothed a lot.
He smiled and replied to Yue Jiang, "I truly wish to be Princess Yue Jiang's husband and wife; there's no rush."
Yue Jiang lowered her head, feigning shyness.
After An Chenghuan spoke, the ministers of Anguo breathed a sigh of relief.
The Emperor Emeritus's drunken ramblings are not to be believed. Given the deep-rooted feud between An Jing and Jing Yan and the hatred of having his wife taken away, how could His Majesty possibly raise a wife for Jing Yan?
They are definitely waiting for the grand wedding, and they are making sure everything goes smoothly step by step. Such courtesy shows that Princess Yuejiang is not to be underestimated.
After the smoke of battle cleared, An Chenghuan leaned back in his chair and rubbed his temples.
Thinking of An Yunrui, he felt he had to give him a warning. He gestured to his personal eunuch, who nodded and left.
After a short while, An Chenghuan said, "Alright, I'm tired. Let's end the banquet."
