Chapter 49 My brother is mentally ill

As soon as Jing Yan arrived, Yue Jiang hurriedly took out her handkerchief, turned to the side, covered her face, and wept softly.

Seeing Yue Jiang's expression, Yue Lang knew he was setting a trap for her.

He outwardly expressed strong dissatisfaction with Jing Yan, but upon turning back, he put on a smiling face, filled with remorse.

"I have missed my sister so much since I haven't seen her for so long, which is why I had to make an excuse to part ways with Your Highness so that I could stay with her a little longer."

“Sigh,” Yue Lang explained as he stood up, stroking the table. He glanced at Yue Jiang out of the corner of his eye, his expression one of helplessness and sadness.

"My sister has grown up. Even I, as her older brother, find it hard to guess what she's thinking. I even made her cry. I'm sorry to trouble Your Highness to help me comfort her. In Jing Kingdom, Your Highness is the only person my sister can trust now."

After Yuelang finished speaking, he cupped his hands in thanks.

“Of course,” Jing Yan nodded.

There was a hint of resentment in Yue Lang's eyes. After thanking him, he didn't linger. Before leaving, he turned to Yue Jiang and gave her a few more instructions.

"Little sister, I'm leaving now. Don't be childish in front of His Highness."

"Farewell, brother," Yue Jiang mumbled without looking up at him.

Yuelang had no intention of staying any longer and stepped out of Qiluan Palace in an instant.

Jing Yan silently walked up to Yue Jiang, lifted her chin with his hand, and carefully examined her tear-stained but not very red eyes, asking a question with suspicion.

"Why did Jiang Cai lose his temper so badly with your brother?"

"Did I lose my temper?" Yue Jiang feigned ignorance, her eyes brimming with tears, and as she pondered, more tears slid down her cheeks.

Like morning dew, it slid into Jing Yan's palm, which was holding Yue Jiang's chin, and was a single, exceptionally clear drop.

Jing Yan smiled faintly, released Yue Jiang's chin, clenched his fist with the tear in his hand, and a tear disappeared into his palm.

But the tingling sensation left by the tears still lingers.

Jing Yan was quite certain: "As soon as I returned, Granny Ye and Qingke outside your Qiluan Palace called out to me loudly twice, as if to remind the people inside that I had come again."

"I quickly walked to the door and heard a rather loud 'Idiot! Who isn't as stupid as your brother?'"

"And these tears," Jing Yan's smile grew even clearer as he couldn't help but chuckle, "Seeing how much you cry, I know how easily you can cry. I've long since learned my limits."

"Your eyes haven't even had time to redden yet. You only started crying on purpose because you saw me."

Faced with Jing Yan's accurate analysis, Yue Jiang was speechless and her pupils dilated involuntarily.

Putting everything else aside, how can you tell she's faking it after crying so much? She's just crying for fun, okay?

Yue Jiang racked her brains for an excuse, then suddenly asked, "Then why did Your Highness return?"

Jing Yan told the truth: "I found out that your brother made an excuse. I was worried about him coming back, so I came back too."

Yue Jiang asked in surprise and confusion: "What is it that Your Highness is so worried about regarding my brother?"

Yue Jiang had stopped crying, and her eyes were even more distinct, so dark and bright that they could reflect the other person's image.

Jing Yan, relying on his intuition, elaborated on the strangeness he had noticed: "I always feel that the way your brother looks at you is off, not like a brother looking at his sister?"

Yue Jiang: Has Jing Yan finally figured it out?

"What does it look like?" she asked nervously.

"It's like looking after a pet. You find a pet that ran away, and you feel angry, resentful, and loving all at the same time."

"Pfft," Yue Jiang couldn't let Jing Yan continue. He was absolutely right. Before she left Yue Kingdom, wasn't that how Yue Lang saw her?

While Jing Yan was engrossed in his analysis, she deliberately chuckled to distract him.

Jing Yan snapped out of his daze, but before he could ask what was so funny, he stopped him.

Yue Jiang leaned over and threw herself into Jing Yan's arms, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist, her delicate voice ringing out against his chest.

"Your Highness, please don't make wild guesses. What you're saying is quite frightening. That was my brother, not a hunter hunting. If you describe my brother like that, how can I face him in the future?"

Jing Yan's observation skills are too keen; he was able to analyze all of this just from that brief moment when something seemed off.

Yuelang couldn't expose her ill intentions; otherwise, revealing that they weren't siblings would be tantamount to admitting she was a fake princess.

A reasonable explanation should be given beforehand, lest Jingyan think that Yuelang came to tell her some orders from the Yue Kingdom and suspect her of being a spy.

Immediately, Yue Jiang's face turned serious, and she looked up at Jing Yan with great care, giving him instructions.

"Your Highness, I have a secret to tell you, but you must not tell anyone else, okay?"

Jingyan suspected that Yuelang had returned after leaving, that Yuelang's attitude towards Yuejiang was suspicious, and that Yuejiang had just lost her temper.

He couldn't guarantee the purity of the matter, but Yue Jiang offered to tell him that Jing Yan could trust her.

“Yes,” he nodded.

Once Yue Jiang received the promise, she told Jing Yan the reasons she had prepared. As for what kind of character Yue Lang was, only Yue Jiang could elaborate on that for him.

"I won't hide it anymore. Your Highness was right about some things earlier. Sometimes, my brother doesn't treat me like a brother treats his sister. Do you know why?"

Jing Yan's breathing became shallow, and he lowered his eyes, asking softly, "Why?"

Yue Jiang sobbed, "My brother is mentally ill. Don't be fooled by how normal he seems most of the time; when he acts strangely, he'll think he's a beggar, a hunter, or even a dog or a pig..."

"He's a prince, after all. If he gets this kind of disease and can't be cured, it'll be incredibly embarrassing if word gets out."

“My brother knows he has a problem, but he wants to maintain his dignity. So, Your Highness, if you see my brother acting strangely, please don’t remind him, or his condition will worsen.”

"The reason I cried then was because my brother had another episode. He couldn't bear to see me marry far away to Jing Kingdom, and he actually said he would take me back to Yue Kingdom. It's a long way, how could I possibly run back? I was so angry that I called my brother stupid."

"With my brother looking like that, how could I not cry?"

After she finished speaking, she let out a soft, weak sigh and secretly glanced at Jing Yan.

Seeing Jingyan's mind wandering, as if he were pondering something.

Yue Jiang quickly added, "Brother's illness is strange. Normally, no symptoms can be found. Over the years, Father has found many famous doctors to treat him. It is already rare that he has been able to stabilize his condition like this."

"If my brother has been rude in any way, Your Highness, please forgive him."

“I remember, I won’t hold a grudge against the patient,” Jing Yan said, his brows furrowing slightly. He had originally intended to recommend Shang Yu to treat Yue Lang.

However, considering the wealth of the Yue Kingdom, it wouldn't be difficult to gather renowned doctors from all over the world. Shang Yu might not be as good as the doctors the Yue Kingdom had previously sought out.

It would be bad if he were also helpless and the young prince of Yue Kingdom suffered a major illness in Jing Kingdom.

Since the current situation is acceptable, Jing Yan will not consider interfering further for the time being.

"I'll head back now," Jing Yan said, noticing that it was getting late and he had spent too long in Qiluan Palace, so it was time for him to leave the inner palace.

Yue Jiang had tried to pounce on Jing Yan before, but each time Jing Yan would first calm her down and then push her away after a short while.

At this moment, Jing Yan also said he was leaving, but he didn't rush to push her away.

Yue Jiang was slightly pleased by this change, and tentatively pulled Jing Yan closer, saying, "Your Highness, would you like to spend some more time with me?"
