Jing Yan paused in arranging the pen holder, glanced at him, and after a long while said indifferently, "Rong Ying, Wei You can't understand why I married the princess of Yue Kingdom, can't you understand it either?"
“Yue Jiang is indeed exceptionally beautiful,” he readily admitted to his aesthetic appreciation of Yue Jiang’s appearance. “Some people are born with good looks and some with bad looks, and Yue Jiang is definitely of the highest caliber.”
But what he valued was not Yue Jiang's appearance, but her status as a princess of the Yue Kingdom and her past status as the crown princess of the An Kingdom.
Each of these is more important than Yue Jiang's appearance!
"Since you know that Yue Jiang is going to be my Crown Princess, do me a favor and shut up the mouths of the Yue Kingdom's marriage alliance."
"Let them understand whether it is Yue Jiang who is marrying into Anguo or Jingguo."
The person in front of him was Rong Ying, Jing Yan's strategist. Hearing that Jing Yan had assigned him such a task, he sighed with worry.
"The Yue Kingdom's marriage procession numbers over ten thousand. I only have one mouth; how can I possibly claim that An Chenghuan's wife is Your Highness's wife?"
Jing Yan realized that Rong Ying was teasing him, and his smile was very faint, with a hint of intimidation.
“Military Advisor Rong is my strategist. If he cannot relieve my worries, then his mouth is useless. It would be better to cut out his tongue.”
“Your Highness is truly…” Rong Ying stammered helplessly.
He deliberately teased Jing Yanyuan, who was expressing his feelings that although the purpose of this trip from Jing Kingdom was to attack the rebels in Fengzhou, things had gone smoothly.
Unexpectedly, Jing Yan snatched a wife away from him halfway through their journey, and they were about to get married. Rong Ying was still a little dazed, and time seemed to fly by.
He also hopes that he can achieve his long-cherished wish in the near future!
“As the saying goes, the people below follow suit. Even the princess of Yue Kingdom has accepted you as her husband. Rest assured, Your Highness, I will not let your marriage cause any trouble,” Rong Ying thought to himself that the women from Yue Kingdom were indeed clever, and then assured her.
Before leaving, he suddenly asked out of curiosity, "You've already married the princess of the Moon Kingdom, are you really not going to take that remnant of the Feng family?"
Jing Yan didn't even raise his face, and said lightly, "Get lost!"
...
When Jing Yan returned to his tent, the sky was already tinged with a faint inky hue.
Upon entering, one sees Yue Jiang curled up against the couch, her head resting on her crossed arms.
At this moment, she was not sleeping soundly; her brows seemed furrowed, and her fingers, clasped on her arm, trembled nervously from time to time, indicating an extreme lack of security in her heart.
Jing Yan frowned slightly, stepped forward slowly, and suddenly spoke from above: "If you're sleepy, why don't you go to bed and rest?"
When the question was asked, there was no response from the person beneath his feet, which only intensified his unease.
He bent down and squatted down, reaching out his right hand to gently pat the shoulder hidden beneath Yue Jiang's dark hair.
Suddenly, Yue Jiang looked up in confusion, her eyes immediately filled with tears. She raised her arms and hugged Jing Yan, filled with fear and trepidation.
"My husband, you're finally back. I just dreamt that a man stopped a caravan and chased after me."
A glint of light flashed in Jing Yan's eyes. He even forgot to push Yue Jiang away from his arms and asked thoughtfully, "Did you see what she looked like?"
Yue Jiang shook her head in frustration: "No, that man was wearing a mask with fangs and a ghostly face. I didn't dare to look at him closely."
"My lord, was that man from Anguo who came to abduct me? Will they come again?"
“No,” Jing Yan said, lowering his guard after learning that Yue Jiang had not regained her memories.
It's just a mask, it's only for intimidating enemies, he can stop wearing it later.
Jing Yan wasn't quite used to Yue Jiang's tendency to pounce on him at the drop of a hat. He gently pulled her out of his arms by supporting her waist, and they met a pair of shimmering, affectionate eyes.
Those eyes were like autumn water, brimming with emotion, as if they wanted to cry and speak, as if they had countless unspeakable feelings to express. Upon closer inspection, however, there was little else to be seen but fear.
Jing Yan was taken aback, wondering how she could have seen through these things. She cleared her mind of all distractions and continued to comfort him.
"Now that you are by my side, I will personally escort you into the Jing Kingdom. There will be no accidents, so don't worry."
“Mmm,” Yue Jiang tried to stop her tears.
She had been waiting in the tent for too long, fearing that Jing Yan might change his mind and renege on his promise to acknowledge her after he came out.
When he returned, the guards' greetings outside startled Yue Jiang, and she took the opportunity to pretend to be asleep and put on this show.
Now that she knows Jing Yan still wants to marry her and will escort her into the Jing Kingdom, Yue Jiang is much more at ease.
Seeing that Yue Jiang had calmed down, Jing Yan asked again, "Why don't you rest on the couch?"
"My clothes are tattered and covered in dust, how could I possibly soil my husband's bed?" Yue Jiang looked embarrassed, her hands hanging at her sides as she awkwardly clutched her dirty, torn dress.
She blinked her eyes and asked hesitantly, "My lord, could you please prepare a bucket of hot water and a clean set of clothes for me to change into?"
Mentioning this matter, Yue Jiang's heart aches. Her dowry was considerable, and she had a large number of servants, all of which were robbed by Jing Yan.
Now that she's going to marry into the Jing Kingdom, it's not unreasonable for her to return the dowry!
Jing Yan's gaze fell on Yue Jiang, who was wearing a colorful embroidered silk dress with a begonia-patterned collar and wide sleeves, exuding a flamboyant and naturally beautiful charm.
Even if the clothes are damaged or stained, you can still tell that they are brand new and exquisite.
But now, upon closer inspection, the dress reveals numerous loose threads and wear, as if it had suffered a major disaster and is no longer wearable.
The Jingyan army camp was full of men, so the only decent clothes they could find for Yue Jiang were from the stolen dowry from the Yue Kingdom.
"Wait a moment, I'll have someone prepare it for you," he said, turning and leaving the tent, calling out in the direction of Wei You not far away.
"Wei You, come here!"
Wei You was arranging a caravan to escort the spoils of war, which were the dowry from the Yue Kingdom. Since Jing Yan said that everything belonged to the Jing Kingdom, preparations were being made to send them back to Pingkang City first.
He had just finished making the arrangements when His Highness called out, and Wei You excitedly stepped forward to report on the progress.
