Chapter 86 Your Highness, do you wish to use this with me?

When Yue Jiang returned from her bath, Qing Ke was drying her long hair at the dressing table when she suddenly blinked.

Soon a tall figure walked into the bedchamber; Jing Yan had returned after his bath.

Upon entering, one sees Yue Jiang sitting quietly in the inner room. Her back is slender, her waist is delicate, and although her black hair is slightly damp, it still cascades down her back like a waterfall.

Jing Yan stopped in his tracks without realizing it, and from the side, he saw that Yue Jiang was playing with something in her hand.

He looked closely through the bronze mirror and could barely make out a hint of gold, which seemed to be the gold hairpin that Jingyan had given to Yuejiang that morning.

Suddenly, Yue Jiang's sweet voice rang out as she held up the gold hairpin in front of Qingke.

"Is the barley pretty?"

Qingke smiled and replied, "Of course it looks beautiful. It contains His Highness's affection for you, the Crown Princess. He must have said many sweet words to you when he gave it to you."

Yue Jiang smiled sweetly, blushing like a young girl: "You silly girl, what you're saying is so embarrassing. His Highness was so serious when he gave me the gift, but you're always thinking such things."

"You are not allowed to discuss His Highness in private next time, or I will have His Highness punish you."

"Yes, yes, yes, this servant will definitely remember this lesson," Qingke said, wiping Yuejiang's hair in turn with her hands, a guilty smile on her lips.

The master and servant got along very well.

Yue Jiang glanced at the gold hairpin in her hand again, and then carefully instructed Qing Ke: "This is the first gift His Highness gave me. When I don't use it in the future, you must take good care of it and not let it get lost or broken."

Qingke nodded and assured her, "Yes, this servant will keep a close watch on everything, including the things Your Highness will give to the Crown Princess in the future."

Yue Jiang said embarrassedly, "Qing Ke, don't talk nonsense. His Highness didn't say when he would send me anything else. I would be satisfied even if it was just one thing."

"Are you really satisfied?" Jing Yan asked subconsciously, and in an instant Yue Jiang and Qing Ke turned around to look at him.

Yue Jiang seemed to be slightly taken aback for a moment, then her face flushed even more as she retorted, "Your Highness, were you eavesdropping on my conversation with Qingke? How could you do such a thing!"

Jing Yan suddenly realized what was happening, awkwardly clenched his fist, quickly recovered, and explained, "I didn't hear much."

Because Yue Jiang didn't say much either!

After saying that, Jing Yan went straight to Yue Jiang: "Give me the handkerchief, and get out."

He took the handkerchief from Qingke's hand and sent her out.

After Qingke left, the door to the sleeping quarters was closed, leaving only Yue Jiang and Jing Yan in the large sleeping quarters.

Jing Yan carefully combed Yue Jiang's black hair strand by strand, but since the barley had already been combed, there was no need to wring it out with much effort.

He silently observed Yue Jiang's expression in the bronze mirror and saw that Yue Jiang lowered her head slightly, her playful demeanor gone.

Jing Yan picked up a strand of Yue Jiang's hair and gently tickled her earlobe. Yue Jiang felt ticklish and raised her hand to push Jing Yan's hand away, humming softly, "Your Highness, it's one thing to eavesdrop, but why tease me in such a childish way?"

Jing Yan, observing Yue Jiang's playful yet angry reaction in the bronze mirror, found it incredibly vivid. He chuckled and asked, "Are you angry?"

"I wouldn't dare," Yue Jiang put down the gold hairpin in her hand, casually picked up a jade comb to smooth her hair, and her sullen appearance actually made Jing Yan feel a little more at ease.

Jingyan put down the handkerchief, her slender fingers tapping softly on the dressing table, the sound particularly clear in the boundless night.

His eyes were deep as he stared at Yue Jiang, who was concentrating on combing her hair in the mirror, and he teased softly, "I think Jiang'er is quite bold. If I hadn't stood at the door and listened, I wouldn't have known that Jiang'er was talking about me with the maid."

Yue Jiang stopped combing her hair and looked up at Jing Yan with resentment, but Jing Yan's voice was still slowly rising.

"I didn't punish that maid, did I? Doesn't that make up for it?"

His voice carried a gentle laugh, neither intimidating nor chilling, but rather conveying a sense of reason, attempting to balance the two sides.

Yue Jiang was only pretending to be angry; she wasn't really going to argue with Jing Yan. She put down the comb and, with a lingering anger, looked up at him.

"Your Highness, you might as well become an accountant; you're much better at accounting."

Jing Yan thought these words through in his mind and teased, "If I become an accountant, then Jiang'er won't be able to become the Crown Princess; she'll have to be my accountant wife instead."

Yue Jiang readily agreed, "Fine, I'll do it. A woman follows her husband wherever he goes. If Your Highness ever gets tired of the Crown Prince and insists on staying behind the counter to manage the money box, I'll go with Your Highness and guard the money box for you."

Jing Yan was slightly stunned. This was the first time he had ever heard the phrase "marry a chicken, follow the chicken; marry a dog, follow the dog" applied to him!

“But Your Highness is quick-witted and adept at using the abacus,” Yue Jiang said, her thoughts becoming increasingly heavy and sorrowful, even fearful: “Don’t let me and my child go hungry because we can’t find work.”

"Few business people are honest. What if Your Highness can't make a living and can't support your concubine and children? Will Your Highness sell your concubine?"

Jing Yan: "..."

Everything is related to everything!

He sighed and rubbed his forehead helplessly: "Jiang'er, now that I've lost my noble status, am I really that useless in your eyes?"

“Of course not, I’m just afraid,” Yue Jiang said, touching a small box and taking out a string of pearls, which she then placed in Jing Yan’s hand.

On a whim, she gestured towards the pearl necklace.

"Otherwise, Your Highness, you can stop being the Crown Prince tonight and become my accountant instead. I will be your wife, and I will test your ability to make a living. Let's see if you can count how many pearls are on this necklace in five breaths."

Jing Yan felt strange holding a string of pearls, as if he had been tricked by Yue Jiang. Why did he have to become an accountant?

Yue Jiang urged him, "Hurry up, my husband. It's hard for couples in the countryside to earn money and save to support their families. Only when you are capable can your wife sleep soundly at night. Once you count correctly, Jiang'er will not be anxious, knowing that you can support Jiang'er and the children no matter where you are."
