Chapter 8 Revisiting an Old Friend

It had only been a little over a week since they last met, but Li Nan could already feel that Gao Siming's health had improved significantly. The most obvious improvement was that he no longer had as much difficulty turning around to pick up things as before.

However, judging from his micro-expressions, Gao Siming was probably not faking it. After all, the medical records were there, and he had secretly followed Gao Siming to the hospital in the previous two years. The illness was indeed real and truly terrible.

A man who was once capable of flying and disappearing into the sky is now confined to a wheelchair and requires care from others.

Looking at his beautiful wife beside him, Li Nan felt the garlic oysters in his mouth tasted even better. "Mmm, a dozen more, please."

Due to work reasons, and also to avoid suspicion after marriage, Qin Wen has not visited Gao Siming for a long time.

Normally, Li Nan would only occasionally mention Gao Ge's little details. Today, they were able to get together for the first time. Seeing Gao Siming gradually recovering, Qin Wen's eyes held a different kind of emotion.

Luckily, we're having barbecue tonight, so the smoke and flames are making it hard to see clearly. Otherwise, it would be so embarrassing, and Li Nan, that jealous person, would definitely be so jealous she'd be drowning in the River of Oblivion.

Of course, their visit today is not just for a meal.

As Aunt Chen prepared to leave after the barbecue got down to business, Li Nan stopped her, saying, "Aunt Chen, we often come to Brother Gao's house for meals, and it's always been a hassle for you to take care of us. Let's eat together today!"

"Yes, Aunt Chen, we've never eaten together before," Qin Wen said, trying her best to persuade her to stay.

Aunt Chen declined while glancing at Gao Siming, who nodded. "Aunt Chen, it's still early today, please join us for a simple meal."

The four people sat around the barbecue grill. Although Aunt Chen had agreed to stay, she still took the initiative to take care of everyone.

Because Aunt Chen was an outsider, the group refrained from discussing the recent school murder case and Wang Zihe's sudden death at the construction site.

It was just a simple chat about our lives and the past.

From a distance, the four people, men and women, young and old, looked happy and harmonious.

In the yard, the kitten would come over from time to time to beg for food, while the parrot in the cage had already fallen asleep due to time constraints.

Although Gao Siming invited her for drinks, Qin Wen readily accepted. However, everyone knew Gao Siming's current health condition, so the drinks were just a passing fancy.

Halfway through the meal, the two had only managed to finish two bottles of beer each, while Li Nan's trash can next to his seat was already half full of oyster shells.

At this moment, Gao Siming picked up the remote control for the electric wheelchair. "I was so busy with seasoning today that the Wugu Temple is in dire need of help. You guys eat first, I'll be right back!"

Li Nan quickly stood up and asked, "Brother Gao, shall I push you there?"

"Get lost, I don't have any fetishes for that kind of thing. Enjoy your meal with the mosquitoes, I'll be right back!"

After saying that, he skillfully maneuvered the wheelchair around and drove it into the inner room.

"This guy has really recovered a lot!"

After Gao Siming left, Qin Wen started to get closer to Aunt Chen, and Li Nan would occasionally chime in.

"Yes, I've been taking care of Xiao Gao for almost two years now."

"Yes, it was terrible at first. I could only lie flat on the bed like a baby, and I couldn't even turn over!"

"You have no idea, I fed Xiao Gao for almost half a year!"

"Wow, he's much better now. He can do so many things while in his wheelchair. He even prepared all the seasonings himself today. I've been here for so long, and I never knew Xiao Gao could cook!"

Li Nan thought to himself, "He used to call himself Chef Gao."

"Oh, although he's recovering quite well, he still can't leave the wheelchair. How could he possibly go out? Xiao Gao is a bit introverted. At most, he just feeds his kittens and parrots in the yard. He doesn't go anywhere else in the neighborhood."

"During this time? No, no, he's been at home the whole time. Especially the day you came, Xiao Li, he asked me to buy groceries early in the morning, saying that a good friend was coming over and he wanted me to prepare the food."

Aunt Chen is also a talkative person. Once Qin Wen starts talking, she can chatter on and on.

Under Li Nan's deliberate guidance, he also got the answer he wanted.

"Yes, I remember that day very clearly. At 6:30 in the morning, Xiao Gao asked me to go to the vegetable market to buy vegetables. I arrived here at 7:30. Xiao Gao was waiting for me at home and asked me to prepare in advance. Then he went outside to walk the cat and bird."

After 7:30, Gao Siming stayed at home. What Aunt Chen said didn't seem like a lie. There was a witness, and she came over at noon that day, which could barely be considered half a piece of physical evidence.

All set, looks like Brother Gao is all set!

Here, Aunt Chen's linguistic artistry continues to blossom.

"Xiao Gao is really good to Xiao Li. Look, it's only been a few days and he's already invited you over for two meals. Over the years, apart from his sister, some students, and that fatso in the neighborhood, very few people have come to visit Xiao Gao!"

"Yes, even a wealthy person in the mountains will have distant relatives, while a poor person in the city will be ignored!" Li Nan sighed.

"One or two true friends are enough in life, why bother with so much nagging? Right, you idiot Li!" Over here, Gao Siming had already relieved himself and was speeding over in his homebody's ultimate weapon.

With Gao Siming back, Li Nan abandoned her attempts to continue testing the waters.

The group ate and laughed, and before they knew it, it was eight o'clock in the evening.

"I'm so full! I really want another delicious oyster and a skewer of pork belly!" Li Nan said, rubbing her round belly.

"That's enough eating, it's not of any use to you anyway," Qin Wen complained softly. "Brother Gao, thank you for your hospitality today. Let me help you tidy up now."

Aunt Chen and Qin Wen had just formed a deep revolutionary friendship, so how could she let her best friend do these rough and tiring jobs?

Gao Siming also said, "Little Mosquito, just eat whatever makes you happy. When you come here, all you have to do is eat, and you don't have to worry about the rest."

After some back and forth, Aunt Chen naturally ended up cleaning up the mess, and Li Nan, along with Qin Wen and a pile of trash, prepared to leave.

At this moment, Li Nan suddenly stopped, turned around, and said, "Brother Gao, the case at the Normal University has been solved, and Liu Xiangdong has been arrested. We've discovered the last three lines of your 'Plum Blossom Academy,' but where is the first case of the first line?"

Gao Siming spread his hands, shrugged, and replied nonchalantly, "Who knows? I threw this poem away a long time ago, and I don't even remember what the first line is. Maybe you'll find out when the time is right."

Watching the two figures disappear into the distance, Gao Siming's right eye glowed faintly with a red light, and a smile of indeterminate emotion appeared on his lips.

"You'll never discover the first case!"
