Chapter 84 The Soybean Goddess

"Kan Xingguo, tell me, why did you kill your wife?"

Kan Xingguo burst into tears, sobbing uncontrollably, "Officer, it's all my fault. I was tricked by that damned Bean Fairy, waaaaah..."

"Take your time!" Li Nan handed Kan Xingguo a pack of tissues.

Kan Xingguo's wife is 68 years old this year, and she has almost every disease that elderly people get.

Everything was fine before, but after the New Year, perhaps due to the weather, Kan Xingguo's wife, Fu Chunping, started to get sicker and sicker.

Although they had a son and a daughter, now that they are old, they still have only the two of them to keep each other company.

This year, the two elderly people were unable to visit the graves to sweep the tombs during the Qingming Festival. Instead, they stayed at home to burn incense, worship Buddha, and pay respects to their ancestors.

After the holiday, my wife's health suddenly deteriorated, and she was almost bedridden.

Perhaps, as his wife said, "Honey, we didn't visit the graves this year. Could we have offended the gods?"

"Nonsense! Where in the world are there gods?"

After decades of marriage, seeing his wife in such a state, Kan Xingguo, though not a believer in gods or Buddhas, was still deeply saddened.

Kan Xingguo, relying on his still good health, was able to go up and down the four flights of stairs several times a day, so he took on the responsibility of caring for his sick wife.

In Kan Xingguo's view, although his wife's illness came on a bit strangely this time, it was not too serious, and she should be able to get through it if she just held on.

So, until he received the package, he didn't tell the children that their mother was sick.

On April 15, a deliveryman knocked on Kan Xingguo's door and handed him a small cardboard box.

"Sir, please sign for this!"

The deliveryman delivered packages to Kan Xingguo many times and got to know the old man.

Kan Xingguo knew that his packages were sent to him by family or friends, so he signed for them without any suspicion.

Moreover, my name, address, and contact number were clearly written on the box.

Upon entering the house and opening the box, Kan Xingguo realized that the delivery was unusual.

The box contained only a few things that looked like soybeans, a small item wrapped in a silk scarf, and a small piece of paper.

The piece of paper had a line of text and a QR code written on it. It was this simple piece of paper that completely ruined Kan Xingguo's later life.

The note read:

[I can save your wife, Fu Chunping. Scan the QR code below to find out if it's true!]

Although Kan Xingguo is over sixty years old, he has heard from chess players in the community over the years about the various tricks used to scam money using QR codes.

Kan Xingguo initially thought this was just another scam, but the other party actually knew his wife's name and even that she was currently ill.

His wife was sick and bedridden, and he didn't even tell his own children. He only mentioned it briefly and discreetly to his chess friends.

My fellow chess players, like myself, are all old folks with one foot in the grave. It's impossible for them to go around talking about their spouse's illness, which they've grown accustomed to.

Moreover, among the chess players, only their wife's name is Xiao Fu; probably no one knows her full name.

So, isn't the information on this piece of paper a lie?

Kan Xingguo felt a pang of pain in his heart when he glanced at his sleeping wife on the bed, who was still moaning softly.

Although he doesn't believe in ghosts and gods, what if a miracle happens?

Perhaps this is a case of desperate measures leading to haphazard treatment!

Kan Xingguo naturally used his mobile phone to scan the QR code, which redirected him to a video website.

"Thank goodness, it wasn't one of those payment pages!" Kan Xingguo's heart sank.

The phone was very fast; in just a few seconds, the video website finished buffering, and a masked avatar appeared on the screen.

Kan Xingguo was immediately drawn to the right eye beneath the mask, which was shedding bloody tears.

Do you want to save your wife?

Do you want to live forever?

The mask, a blend of pink and white, carried a beautiful female voice that seemed to possess an irresistible magic!

Kan Xingguo was instantly captivated and unable to extricate himself.

The video is very short, only seven minutes long.

Kan Xingguo watched it once, but wasn't satisfied, so he watched it a second time, and a third time...

He cherished the woman's voice behind the mask and began to believe the magical story she had told.

Soybean Goddess, granting eternal life!

As the video played repeatedly, Kan Xingguo's eyes gradually became unfocused.

It wasn't until his wife called out that she was thirsty several times that he seemed to wake from a dream, remembering the instructions of the Soybean Goddess, and took out the small item wrapped in a silk scarf.

Gently open it, and inside the silk scarf lies a black pill.

The pills were no bigger than two peanuts, round and shiny black.

Surprisingly, the pills emitted an enticing meaty aroma. Kan Xingguo felt that the smell was somewhat familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had smelled it before.

However, this is a divine elixir bestowed by heaven. Isn't it normal for a divine elixir to have a fragrance?

"My dear, take this elixir, and your illness will be cured!"

Kan Xingguo handed a cup of warm water and black pills to his wife. His wife was seriously ill and had always believed in gods and Buddhas. Seeing her husband, who did not usually believe in gods and Buddhas, hand her pills and say that they were a magic pill, she was secretly pleased.

"Sincerity moves mountains; Heaven must have heard my prayers!"

Fu Chunping thought happily to herself and swallowed the pill that smelled so temptingly of meat without hesitation.

The pills melted in her mouth, with a slightly bitter taste, but Fu Chunping didn't pay any attention to it.

"Perhaps it really is an elixir of immortality?"

Fu Chunping took a sip of warm water and swallowed the pill.
