Chapter 65: Figuring Out My Clingy Girlfriend
The next morning, Yu Wu received a call from Sister Ling, saying that all the previously postponed S+ projects had been restarted. Many major clients, mostly from Cheng Yi's circle in the northern part of the city, were also proactively calling to inquire about cooperation.
Cheng Yi withdrew all the targeting and even sent her more resources.
He gives more than he takes.
As a result, Yuwu focused more on her work, keeping herself busy day and night.
*
Ke Yanchen has been absent-minded lately.
Since that incident during the National Day holiday, Yu Wu has been throwing herself into work every day and hasn't accompanied him to any gatherings. He assumed she was still angry about what happened during the National Day holiday, so he took every opportunity to visit her, bringing her many gifts to apologize. She then became very clingy.
He doesn't take the initiative, and neither does she; but when he comes to her, she is filled with tenderness and affection.
It's unpredictable and makes you want to keep trying.
Ke Yanchen sat casually at the bar in the corner of the private room, the dim light casting shadows on his roguish face as he drowned his sorrows in alcohol.
Ye Ren lit a cigarette, pushed open the door, and walked in, clicking his tongue: "Luo Yueke is getting more and more annoying lately."
He offered Ke Yanchen a cigarette, but Ke Yanchen shook his head slightly and refused. Ye Ren looked surprised, "Really? You've really quit smoking?"
Ke Yanchen smiled casually without answering, took a sip of his drink, and asked, "What's wrong with Luo Yue? She seems fine to me."
Ye Ren took a deep drag of his cigarette, looking disgusted. "She bombards me with texts and calls every day, wanting me to stay with her! What can I do with her? Doesn't she have her own life? Annoying!"
Just then, a guy passing by chimed in, "Hey, my girlfriend called and told me to go home too." He greeted Ye Renke and Ke Yanchen, "Young Master Ke, Young Master Ye, I'm off now, you guys have fun!"
The two watched the guy leave, and Ye Ren exclaimed, "Ke Zi, I've noticed that your partner never seems to cling to you?"
Ke Yanchen lowered his head, took a sip of wine, gave a faint, wry smile, and looked slightly forlorn.
After Yu Wu was rescued by Cheng Yi last time, she only said that Cheng Yi was going that way on the way. Ke Yanchen didn't believe this, but she had just been frightened, so he couldn't ask too many questions and could only swallow his doubts. She even missed the gathering on Friday.
He silently finished another glass of wine.
When will she finally reveal her secret to him completely?
*
I drank too much last night, and Ke Yanchen didn't wake up until almost noon the next day.
He and Ye Ren had arranged to have brunch outside.
Ye Ren joked that he had been dumped by his girlfriend and was now hanging out with him, a guy, every day.
Ke Yanchen chose an outdoor street-side dining spot.
The midday sun, filtered through the parasol, cast dappled golden light onto the wooden dining table. A rustling sound emanated from the leaves, creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
Halfway through the meal, Ye Ren whistled and winked at him, "Eleven o'clock direction, G-Wagon, mature woman."
Ke Yanchen lazily raised his eyelids and squinted at the scene.
A tall, slender girl with long, wavy hair, wearing sunglasses, jumped out of a black Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Her shapely figure was accentuated by a black strapless dress, and a leg ring on her thigh added a touch of sexy eroticism to her fair and slender legs. She wore Martin boots, looking both cool and stylish.
Her simple and neat outfit was captivating.
She leaned against the car door, looking down at her phone and doing something.
"I think she's about 1.8 meters tall." Ye Ren stared straight at her, then suddenly turned to look at Ke Yanchen. "Her height is similar to your Yu Wu's, but her style is completely different."
Ke Yanchen picked up his coffee and took a sip, his gaze remaining fixed on her.
He had a vague sense of familiarity until he saw another familiar girl walk straight over and greet the girl with the G-Class affectionately.
Zan Ya.
Ye Ren pointed it out to Ke Yanchen, who frowned, lowered his head, silently dialed a number, and looked at her.
She answered.
Ke Yanchen's lips curled into a sarcastic smile as he asked in a low voice, "Have you gotten off the plane? Is the project proposal ready?"
"We just got off the plane a little while ago, and everything's ready! Keke, have you eaten yet?"
"They're eating right in front of you."
Yu Wu's neck stiffened, and she stared blankly ahead.
Ke Yanchen waved his phone at her expressionlessly.
"How could we run into this?" Yu Wu and Zan Ya looked at each other in disbelief.
......
Yu Wu and Zan Ya sat together, looking like elementary school students who had done something wrong, their necks hunched over.
Ke Yanchen raised an eyebrow slightly, leaned lazily against the back of the chair, and casually spread his long legs, looking every bit the nonchalant rogue. He scrutinized Yu Wu from head to toe. "Aren't you on a business trip?"
The surrounding temperature rose, and the air became quiet.
Yu Wu gave an awkward laugh, smoothed her hair, and said softly, "It was canceled at the last minute, and then Ya Ya asked me to come out and play."
Zan Ya, who was being unfairly blamed, shrank her neck, pursed her lips, and revealed a pure and innocent smile: "Let me borrow your girlfriend for a day."
Ke Yanchen remained unmoved, leaning back lazily in his chair, staring absently at Yu Wu. Sometimes he couldn't be sure if this girl truly cared for him.
Why did you lie to me?
“Keke!” Yuwu’s pupils suddenly dilated, and she drew out her voice, “I was just thinking of spending the day with Yaya! Then I didn’t think straight and I lied.”
Ke Yanchen, however, remained calmly watching her.
"Ke Ke?" Yu Wu gently shook his arm. "Don't be angry!"
She's being coquettish again.
My heart melted without me even realizing it.
"Little liar." Ke Yanchen reached out and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, frowned, and then took out two tissues to wipe the fine sweat from the tip of her nose.
Yu Wu squinted as she enjoyed his service, looking at the man's deep-set, slightly cold face. "Ke Ke, you're not angry anymore?"
Bright sunlight bathed his handsome face, and Ke Yanchen's lips curled slightly, but the smile did not reach his eyes.
Yu Wu stepped forward and pulled at the corners of his mouth, "You look better when you smile like this."
Ke Yanchen's dark, long gaze remained fixed on Yu Wu's eyes, probing them for a long time without looking away.
He really had many questions he wanted to ask her. He appeared indifferent, yet he was powerless against her affectionate, playful, and unreasonable behavior. He truly couldn't control himself around her; he always softened.
Yu Wu insisted on going shopping with Zan Ya, so Ke Yanchen could only take them to the mall entrance.
Watching Yu Wu and Zan Ya leave, Ke Yanchen suddenly realized that in this relationship, he was more like the clingy girlfriend.
*
Because Yu Wu was "arrested" yesterday, Ke Yanchen forced Yu Wu to spend the day with him.
The restaurant's private rooms are tranquil, with soft melodies playing quietly.
Before the food arrived, sunlight streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Ke Yanchen leaned back lazily in his chair, his brows slightly furrowed.
Yu Wu noticed that Ke Yanchen looked preoccupied.
Feeling Yu Wu's gaze, he turned his head to look at her, took her hand and rubbed it, "What's wrong?"
Yu Wu leaned closer to his face, gently rubbed his brow, and said softly, "Don't frown, it doesn't look good."
Ke Yanchen let her act recklessly, his dark pupils fixed on her with an unreadable expression. "Don't you have anything to explain to me?"
His words carried a hint of mockery.
Yu Wu was slightly taken aback, looking completely bewildered. "Ke Ke, what are you explaining?"
Ke Yanchen raised an eyebrow and glanced at her.
The little liar is playing dumb again.
Yu Wu, trying to please him, placed the pre-dinner dessert, milk and coconut squares, in front of Ke Yanchen, saying, "Ke Ke, try it first."
With a cold face, Ke Yanchen picked up a spoon, scooped out a large mouthful of milk and coconut squares, and handed them to Yu Wu's lips without allowing her to refuse.
Yu Wu looked at him pleadingly; she had just said she didn't like this. Seeing that Ke Yanchen had no intention of compromising, Yu Wu could only open her mouth and eat it with a bitter expression.
Ke Yanchen slowly lifted his eyelids, finally revealing a nonchalant and frivolous smile, before being silenced by Yu Wu's small, pink fist.
The two had just finished dinner and were preparing to rest before accompanying Yu Wu to an art exhibition when Ke Yanchen received a call from his assistant. The financing project, originally scheduled for next Monday, had been moved up due to Tong Panshan's plans. Tong Panshan is a Singaporean-Chinese investor, founder and chief investment officer of Zhiyu Capital. He is known for his precise investment acumen, managing funds exceeding $50 billion across multiple sectors including technology, biomedicine, and real estate.
The assistant said that Tong Panshan's schedule was very tight, and he was only free today, having already arrived at Ke's. Ke's is currently experiencing cash flow difficulties and urgently needs financing to alleviate the company's predicament.
Ke Yanchen frowned upon hearing this and said in a low voice that he would be right there and that his assistant should take good care of Tong Panshan.
He hung up the phone and explained to Yu Wu, "I'll take you home first, and then go to the Ke family."
After hearing this, Yu Wu's mind raced, and she smiled and agreed. She took his arm as they walked towards the parking lot. "Ke Ke, I'll be praying for you from behind, wishing you success!"
Ke Yanchen smiled faintly upon hearing this.
Halfway there, Yu Wu's face gradually paled, and she looked like she was enduring something with a deep frown. She said considerately, "I feel a little unwell, Ke Ke. Leave me here, I'll take a taxi to the hospital myself."
Ke Yanchen glanced at her, then immediately turned the car around and headed to the nearest public hospital.
"Don't be afraid, I'll go with you."
Upon arriving at the hospital, she underwent examinations. Her period had started, and the cause of her illness couldn't be found. She kept complaining of pain, and in the end, she could only receive intravenous glucose. The public hospital had no beds available, and it would take Ke Yanchen forty minutes to coordinate a bed being available. He asked Yu Wu if she wanted to go to a private hospital, but Yu Wu refused. She sat weakly against a metal chair, and Ke Yanchen thoughtfully placed a shirt underneath her.
The assistant called Ke Yanchen again, looking troubled, and said he would be there right away.
Yu Wu looked at Ke Yanchen with pleading eyes, grabbed his wrist, and said weakly, "Ke Ke, I know you're in a hurry. But I'm here alone, and I'm scared."
"Don't leave me alone, okay?"
At that moment, Ke Yanchen felt a strange feeling he had never experienced before. He considered himself a selfish and rational person, even capable of ruthlessly cutting his losses to save himself when faced with matters of principle.
The little girl's eager look made it impossible for him to refuse.
Ke Yanchen sighed deeply, glanced at his watch, and sat down next to Yu Wu, letting her lean her head closer.
"Go to sleep, I'm here."
Everything around him was in a mess, and his nostrils were filled with the smell of disinfectant. Ke Yanchen tried his best to suppress his anxiety.
Still half asleep, Yu Wu asked again, "Ke Ke, where did you get the shirt?"
"Knowing that it might be inconvenient for you to wear skirts sometimes, I always keep one in the car."
"KeKe, will you leave?"
"I'm not leaving, go to sleep."
Yu Wu closed her eyes, suppressing the coldness in them, and her lips curled up slightly before returning to normal in an instant.
She pretended to be confused and said, "Keke, I wish I could lean on you like this forever."
"Keke, I like you so much."
Ke Yanchen felt a tingling sensation on the back of his neck and couldn't help but drift into daydreams about the future. He kissed Yu Wu's forehead, reached out and placed his hand on her lower abdomen, gently massaging it to warm her stomach and relieve her pain.
The man's movements were focused and gentle, exuding a strong sense of security. Unbeknownst to her, Yu Wu gradually drifted off to sleep.
Ke Yanchen stared at Yu Wu's sleeping face, which was as exquisite as an oil painting, and sighed inwardly that he had truly fallen for her. Even though the company was in dire straits, he was still thinking of warming her stomach; even though he had given up on his own life, he still didn't want to see her frown.
I've never been this confused in previous relationships.
