Chapter 221 Rain

"Oh? For example?"

Chuanliu narrowed his eyes and stared at the assassin.

A bead of sweat rolled down the latter's face as he unconsciously said, "I, the people I know, Da Tou, Er Mao, and San Bengzi, they all envy me for snatching this order... And, there are those powerful big shots, like Mo Qingchen and Mandala, but I'm not at their level to get in touch with them. I've only heard that they're planning to take orders."

Mo Qingchen, a high-ranking assassin under the "Dark Gate," is renowned for his superb disguise skills.

Mandala, a top assassin under the "Dark Gate," lives up to her name, being skilled in using poison and killing people without leaving a trace.

The assassin stammered his name, his neck involuntarily shrinking back, yet he was constantly pursued by the dagger in the assassin's hand.

In order to save his life, he searched his mind rapidly, and suddenly seemed to remember something, adding, "Right, right, I heard that Songluo... Songluo has already arrived in the City of Cubes."

Although the assassins of "Dark Gate" all belong to the same organization, they essentially fight independently, sharing the spoils with Dark Gate. This assassin, in order to save his own life, doesn't care about exposing a few more of his comrades.

"Usnea?" Chuanliu asked in surprise.

Zhui Ming explained, "Song Luo is also a top assassin under the 'Dark Gate.' Her methods of killing are unknown, but she once killed someone a thousand miles away, which caused quite a stir in Spade City, thus making her famous."

Chuanliu nodded. "How do they compare to you?"

Zhui Ming shrugged and said arrogantly, "We're not on the same path. I'm a powerhouse. If it's a head-on fight, I can take on ten of them by myself without any problem."

Chuanliu had witnessed Zhuiming's strength; he was the only one she had ever met who could fight Wu Fangming one-on-one and escape almost unscathed.

She knew that Zhui Ming wasn't exaggerating; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to hold the position of "8 of Spades."

However, as Zhui Ming also mentioned, this applies to a direct, head-on confrontation. The individuals mentioned earlier each possess unique skills.

It is precisely these kinds of conspiracies and tricks that make them so difficult to guard against.

After pondering for a moment, Chuanliu continued to ask the assassin, "Is there anything else?"

The assassin was completely bewildered by their conversation. He shook his head blankly, then swallowed hard and said, "Boss, can you let me go now? I won't take this job anymore, okay?"

What's your number?

Chuanliu suddenly asked.

The assassin immediately realized what she was going to do and hurriedly said, "I can't tell you that!"

Chuanliu shook his head regretfully, "That's a pity."

The assassin nervously pleaded, "I won't kill you, and you shouldn't let me die either. I'll go to the designated contact point to report every day as usual, and then you can live a good life, right?"

The girl nodded, seemingly agreeing with the idea.

Seeing that the girl had relented, the assassin breathed a sigh of relief. "Then it's settled?"

He made a move to get up, but the dagger at his neck showed no sign of being removed.

At this moment, the girl spoke again, "Unfortunately, I'm not someone who likes to keep a ticking time bomb around."

The next second, Zhui Ming swiftly and cleanly finished him off with a swift and decisive strike.

The assassin's proposal seemed like a win-win situation, but if Chuanliu released him, she would face more uncertainties. Once the assassin was out of her control, she would be put on the defensive again, and she wouldn't even know when she would be assassinated next.

Having dealt with the assassin, Chuanliu let out a long sigh. Not to mention the countless low- and mid-level assassins lurking ahead, every name she had just heard was enough to give her a run for her money.

A night of light sleep.

"Boom—"

At dawn, a deafening clap of thunder woke everyone from their sleep.

The heavy rain is still falling, and it seems to be getting heavier.

Outside the window, this road, which was originally a desolate wilderness, might occasionally see one or two travelers hurrying along during the day, but now, because of this sudden downpour, the entire road is deserted, and even the creatures in the vicinity have all taken shelter, unwilling to show themselves in this storm.

Looking out the window of the room, rainwater dripped continuously from the eaves, forming a fine curtain of water.

Floodwaters began to accumulate outside the hotel, and the water level rose and rose, eventually forming a rapid stream that flowed down the road.

Chuanliu gazed quietly out the window, lost in thought.

After a while, the bathroom door opened, and through the swirling steam, Zhui Ming's figure gradually appeared.

The steam in the bathroom hadn't completely dissipated, and the hazy mist acted like a soft-focus filter over the man's body. His muscles appeared exceptionally defined under the light, their lines smooth and powerful, exuding an indescribable beauty.

Water droplets shimmered with a crystalline light, slowly sliding down his strong muscle lines, eventually disappearing into his waist.

A white bath towel was loosely tied around Zhui Ming's waist, swaying with his movements; his V-line was faintly visible beneath the towel.

He stood at the bathroom door, letting the steam gently caress his sharply defined face. His deep eyes held a murderous aura accumulated over the years, and his thick eyebrows, high nose, and clear features gave him an air of resolute yet refined beauty.

When Zhui Ming takes off his mask, he looks like a debuted idol, making it impossible to look away.

Even Chuanliu couldn't help but marvel at the ingenuity of the goddess Nuwa.

"How about it? Are you captivated by my dashing appearance?"

Zhuiming ruffled his hair haphazardly and laughed.

"It's really good."

Chuanliu did not back down because of the man's words. Instead, he stared even more blatantly, as if admiring a sculpture, looking it up and down.

Zhuiming smiled helplessly and jokingly asked, "Do you know that song by Wu Bai?"

So I've closed your eyes for now...

Chuanliu touched his nose. "Wu Bai uses the 'close your eyes' technique, but I don't."

She blinked, and when she opened her eyes again, Zhuiming had already changed out of his bath towel, put on pants, and was standing with his back to Chuanliu, shirtless, looking for a shirt.

Chuanliu's gaze immediately fell on that broad back, and a striking scar caught her attention. The scar was deeply imprinted on Zhuiming's left side, near his heart, and eventually disappeared below his left shoulder.

Clearly, this scar was once very serious, possibly even fatal to the man. The edges of the scar are blurred, and its color is slightly pale, indicating that it has been there for quite some time.

Even so, Chuanliu could still sense from the blurry scars how fatal the man's injury had been.

By the time Chuanliu came to his senses, Zhuiming had already put on his shirt.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"It's nothing." Chuanliu lowered his eyes.

Everyone has a past that no one knows about, let alone a top assassin like Zhui Ming.

Chuanliu didn't want to pry too much.

Zhuiming didn't press the matter; he seemed to have guessed something, but just like Chuanliu, he didn't bring up the topic.

"With such heavy rain, we can't leave anytime soon. Let's go downstairs and get something to eat," Zhui Ming suggested.
