Chapter 287 The Only Three Survivors

Qian Chuan's steps came to an abrupt halt. He glanced at the line leaving through the elevator and waited patiently.

He didn't sit down again until the last group of people entered the elevator and the elevator doors slowly closed.

Seeing this, Zhou Zheng gestured to his subordinates around him, and the people who had been waiting nearby orderly withdrew from the scene until the conference room returned to silence.

Zhou Zheng spoke calmly, "Brother Qian Liu, now that it's just the three of us here, don't you have anything you'd like to say to us alone?"

Qian Chuan chuckled lightly, "Boss Zhou, there's no need to be so polite. You're the boss of Cube City, how could I be qualified to be called 'brother' by you?"

Zhou Zheng's eyes showed no emotion; he maintained a constant smile as he looked at the man before him. "Who here doesn't know that Brother Qian Liu rose to prominence two years ago, overwhelmingly securing the position of 'Six of Diamonds'? Actually, back then, it wouldn't have been impossible for you to take the 'Ace of Diamonds' position, would it?"

Qian Chuan tapped his fingers rhythmically on the conference table and replied humbly, "It's been two years, don't you know me? With my abilities, it would be difficult for me to even reach a high-level position, so please don't joke about me."

Zhou Zheng smiled and shook his head, "Actually, we've always been curious about where you went during the time you disappeared."

Qian Chuan looked at him, then looked away and picked up her water glass. "Oh? So, does Boss Zhou have an answer now?"

Zhou Zheng took a sip of water, the lenses of his silver-rimmed glasses reflecting a light that concealed the emotions in his eyes. "When I first met you, if I had known you were so capable, I shouldn't have let you leave and suffer so much outside."

Qian Chuan took a sip of water. "Even without me, Boss Zhou is still doing very well. Besides, you didn't come here for me in the first place. You've already gotten what you wanted, haven't you?"

Zhou Zheng smiled and did not refute, "We didn't have the opportunity to cooperate before, but now that we are all from the City of Blocks, we should work together for a common goal."

Qian Chuan raised an eyebrow, hinting, "I'm just afraid everyone's goals are different..."

Zhou Zheng looked at him and said, "How could that be? Even if things go wrong, we're not enemies..."

The two looked at each other and suddenly burst out laughing at the same time.

Hahahaha.

Hahahaha.

After a while, the two stopped smiling.

For a moment, the only sound in the conference room was the tapping of Qian Chuan's fingers on the table, the rhythmic sound guiding the three of them as they breathed.

Zhou Zheng looked away and tilted his head towards Liu Xingxing.

Liu Xingxing broke the silence and said, "So, Brother Qian Liu, I still want to ask one more question: who exactly was the person who died during the day today?"

Qian Chuan's eyes remained completely unmoved. "Didn't I already say? They're my subordinates."

Liu Xingxing stared at him and pressed, "Someone saw your subordinate walking next to Chuanliu before the incident, and there were two bodyguards behind them. How do you explain that?"

Qian Chuan looked at him, "Is Boss Liu doubting me?"

Liu Xingxing frowned, a hint of concern flashing in her eyes. "I'm just asking as usual. Brother Qian, is there any need for you to get so agitated?"

Zhou Zheng added from the side, "We know you have a close relationship with Ms. Chuanliu, we just wanted to confirm with you. In case this is a setup by someone with ulterior motives, no one can stay in the dark forever."

Qian Chuan lowered his eyes. "Then thank you for your concern. That subordinate was someone I specifically sent to protect Chuan Liu. Besides, that assassin originally wanted to kill me. If it weren't for my subordinate, I wouldn't be sitting here right now."

"Really?" Liu Xingxing said, "But since he's a bodyguard, shouldn't you find someone strong and fit? Isn't your subordinate a bit old? Someone saw that his hair is completely white."

"Can't I?" Qian Chuan's tone was somewhat displeased as he leaned forward. "He's been a bodyguard for many years, and I've always trusted his professionalism. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to save my life."

“Since you’re a long-time resident, how come I’ve never seen you around?” Liu Xingxing retorted without backing down.

Zhou Zheng tapped the table twice, breaking the tense atmosphere between the two.

“Nothing is impossible,” he said gently. “Since it’s a misunderstanding, we can only offer our condolences regarding your loss.”

Upon hearing this, Qian Chuan leaned back in his seat.

Seeing that the two had stopped arguing, Zhou Zheng continued, "But... why did that assassin have a gun?"

Qian Chuan looked at him, slightly raised his eyelids, and smiled contemptuously, "This is a question that Boss Zhou should ask himself."

Seeing the man's attitude, Liu Xingxing's anger surged. "Qian Chuan, what kind of attitude is this?!"

"Star!"

Zhou Zheng patted the former's shoulder and gave Qian Chuan an apologetic smile, "I apologize to you on behalf of Xingxing."

"Brother..." Liu Xingxing wanted to say something more, but Zhou Zheng stopped her.

Qian Chuan shrugged indifferently, "I can understand your suspicions. After all, the three of us are the only people still on Paradise Island who have come into contact with those things."

The three people present—

Zhou Zheng, Liu Xingxing, and Qian Chuan are the only people alive who have had contact with that batch of weapons since two years ago.

It was because Zhou Zheng obtained that batch of weapons that he was able to lead almost everyone in the City of Diamonds to join Cao He's camp and achieve the final victory in the duel against the City of Spades.

“But, Mr. Zhou,” Qian Chuan continued, “you know, I didn’t take anything with me when I left. I was even almost killed by so-called ‘our own people’!”

"this……"

Zhou Zheng didn't respond to that question; he knew Qian Chuan wasn't lying.

“In comparison,” Qian Chuan added, “I have serious doubts about both of you.”

Liu Xingxing explained somewhat hastily, "What nonsense are you talking about! We all know the quantity of that batch of weapons. After the battle with Spade City, resources were already scarce. Later, the peace agreement was put on the table by other high-ranking officials."

In the presence of all the top officials, we inventoried all remaining weapons and destroyed them all—you know that. I swear on my life, that entire batch of weaponry has been cleared away!

Qian Chuan calmly stood up, picked up the kettle in the middle of the table and poured himself a glass of water. "Could it be that this gun that suddenly appeared was brought to the island by someone later?"

Zhou Zheng shook his head. "No, ever since two years ago, whenever a new person arrives on the island, the Four Colors will send their own official residents to pick them up. There has been no such opportunity."

Qian Chuan sighed, with a somewhat indifferent attitude, "You don't have it, and I don't have it either, so there's nothing to talk about? In that case, I'll head back first."
