"So, later you found out what Xiao Wang and 'Joker' that Lao Feng mentioned were all about?" Chuanliu asked.
Qian Chuan shook his head. "This part wasn't in the story my master told me, but I had a question that I later found out."
"What?" Chuanliu asked.
“Master’s illness,” Qian Chuan finally raised his head, meeting the sunlight streaming through the window, “was caused by Plum Blossom City.”
"You mean... their human experiments? But weren't they researching heroin?" Chuanliu frowned.
“No,” Qian Chuan said firmly, “herbal anesthetic was what they mainly focused on researching later. Four years ago, they also dabbled in other drugs. The poison that Master was poisoned with was one of them.”
But clearly, their drug research was unsuccessful. The master's illness could be controlled with other medications, and for a considerable period, he could occasionally recover, although the frequency of relapses would increase.
Who poisoned Lao Feng?
Chuanliu fell into thought. "Judging from Lao Feng's symptoms of poisoning, it sounds like the purpose of making the medicine was to fake Alzheimer's disease, but why would they have such a need on Paradise Island?"
Qian Chuan shook his head. "I've seen the drug-making methods of Plum Blossom City firsthand. They've developed heroin to the point where it can make someone instantly intoxicated. Do you remember Jia Zuowei? The kind he was addicted to was specially developed for official residents like them. In order to maintain his sanity, Jia Zuowei had to rely on Plum Blossom City."
Given Plum Blossom City's drug-making capabilities, the poisons they developed couldn't possibly be intended solely for circulation on Paradise Island...
Chuanliu's eyes flickered, and a guess formed in his mind.
If the City of Plum Blossoms could sell the dirty stuff it produces outside the island...
Then, the benefits gained will last a lifetime! Why would they care about being trapped on Paradise Island?
Could it be that the WD Investigation Bureau is looking for this person in Plum Blossom City?
She pulled herself back to reality, and another question lingered in her mind: Why did the WD Investigation Bureau allow Qian Chuan and his group to bring a large amount of weapons to the island?
With so many vicious and ruthless people on Paradise Island who thrive on chaos, the island will be plunged into hell as soon as this batch of weapons enters the market.
The WD Investigation Bureau could not have failed to foresee this.
The vast majority of those who came to the island were from the City of Squares, whose combat strength was relatively low. If Zhou Zheng hadn't appeared, the people of the City of Squares, after understanding the situation, might have chosen to cooperate with the people of the City of Spades; or they might have sold their weapons to improve their status or interests; or they might have kept their own weapons to create a balance of power with the others.
But Zhou Zheng appeared, and his actions were somewhat strange. Despite having such military resources of his own, he resolutely chose to support Cao He.
Although Zhou Zheng's intervention did not result in a situation where multiple forces fell into chaos, it did lead to a situation of factional struggle between two sides.
The result was obvious—a "disaster," a disaster that resulted in mutual destruction.
However, during this process, the City of Plum Blossoms happened to provide advance funding to Caohe, which would later possess armed forces two years later.
At the height of the struggle, Plum Blossom City was under lockdown.
Wu Lide's collaboration with Caohe, the lockdown of Plum Blossom City, the disappearance of the little devil, and the arrival of weapons on the island two years later...
The sheer number of coincidences makes it all the more suspicious.
Chuanliu recalled what Lao Feng had said to her when he went mad before he died.
Old Feng said he wasn't the "Joker," he was just a kid.
So, the little devil she found after circling most of Paradise Island turned out to be a completely different person from "Joker".
Fortunately, the name "Joker" finally came into her ears after the exposure of the little ghost.
She could feel that she was one step closer to the truth.
Old Feng also said that Chuanliu and he both knew what bad things "Joker" had done.
Did she know?
Chuanliu kept searching his mind for any trace of the so-called "Joker," but to no avail.
She didn't know.
So... can we interpret Chuanliu as meaning that Lao Feng knew the identity of "Joker"?
Is this just Lao Feng talking nonsense because he lost his senses, or is it true?
Furthermore, judging from Lao Feng's tone, she always felt that Lao Feng knew her before, and that they had a deep connection.
Why was Lao Feng so agitated? How could she have known Lao Feng four or even more years ago?
Chuanliu was filled with deep doubts. Clearly, Qianchuan was not fully aware of all the inside information either.
She glanced at the man lost in his own thoughts, sighed, and flipped through the documents she had just half-finished burning.
The damp documents and notes had curled edges from the moisture, the ink was mottled, and much of the writing was blurred and illegible. Occasionally, a few black fragments scattered from the charred parts, and a faint smell of burning filled the air.
"You're usually such a rational person, how could you do something like this?" Chuanliu held up the damaged document and waved it in front of the man. "Do you know that this document might contain the truth about your master's death?"
"Hmm..." Qian Chuan finally snapped out of his thoughts, a hint of regret flashing in his lowered eyes as he realized his rashness.
But he quickly composed himself, turned around, and deftly opened the bedside table, which was neatly stacked with a dazzling array of documents and materials, resembling a small library.
“But thankfully,” he said with a hint of relief, “there were just too many documents left by my master that I couldn’t burn them all.”
Looking at the thick pile of documents, Chuanliu couldn't help but chuckle. There were so many documents in front of her, more than she had seen at Lao Feng's all-purpose shop.
It seems that while he was caught up in the excitement of the money, he still retained some rationality.
Chuanliu didn't say anything more. Together with Qian Chuan, he carried the stacks of documents to the desk and carefully looked through them.
While quickly searching for useful information, Chuanliu said, "Since Li Chengfeng has already discovered that Lao Feng is Xiaogui, then Plum Blossom City will soon find you."
Qian Chuan sat down next to her and flipped through the book with her. "Yes, I won't sit idly by anymore."
Chuanliu looked at the man beside him with some surprise.
Qian Chuan met her gaze and finally gave her a knowing smile. "Didn't you say that? I need to pull myself together."
The river flows back with a smile.
After a long while, Chuanliu's hand, which was flipping through the documents, paused. She patted the man on the shoulder and said, "Qianchuan, look."
Both of their eyes were fixed on the document in the girl's hand.
That was a peace agreement from four years ago, and the holder was clearly Old Feng.
The content of the agreement was almost identical to the verbal gentleman's agreement at the time, with nothing particularly special about it.
But the signature on the next page caught their attention.
Signatures of the partners: Xiao Gui, Qiao Qiao, Ma Wenyue, Joker, Shangguan Shu.
