Chapter 321 Attracting Hatred

Chuanliu drove her vehicle as fast as she could until she hid it in a dense forest, some distance from the residential area, where no one usually came.

After making sure her whereabouts wouldn't be easily discovered, he got out of the car.

Instead of taking the normal route, she weaved through the trees, gradually approaching the edge of the cliff, and silently slid down the naturally formed slope to the ground. She seemed to blend into the surrounding rocks and trees, leaving no trace of her passage.

As the sky gradually turned a golden orange hue, a tranquil yet slightly tense atmosphere began to permeate the residential area. The surrounding houses quickly closed their iron gates, the heavy clanking of chains erecting a defensive barrier against the approaching night.

Meanwhile, beneath the tranquility, the corpses were quietly approaching.

The number of corpses on the street gradually increased. They wandered the empty streets with an almost mechanical and disorderly pace, remaining highly alert to any slight sound. Once they caught a human voice, they would rush towards the unknown source in groups.

Using her familiarity with the residential areas of Plum Blossom City, Chuanliu chose a more secluded path. She gracefully leaped from a high slope onto the roof of a house.

The height of the roof became her natural hiding place, and the occasional noises she made made the corpses unable to find their way.

She used the close connections between rooftops to traverse the city like a nightwalker.

As she drew closer to the main city of Plum Blossom, the situation ahead forced her to change her plans.

The main city was tightly surrounded by tall fences, and the flickering firelight on the fences illuminated the scene inside.

The guards of the escort team pressed themselves against the outer wall of the "Golden Diamond," maintaining a safe distance from the fence to ensure they wouldn't be attacked by the roaming undead outside the city.

Many of the corpses were also drawn to the single light and reached their hands inside the fence.

Seeing this, Chuanliu realized that it would be impossible for him to infiltrate the main city today.

With that in mind, she stopped rushing toward the main city and instead found a secluded spot with a wide view, quietly observing the movements below.

Her gaze swept over the corpses on the street, and she casually grabbed a weathered brick from the edge of the rooftop.

Immediately afterwards, she flicked her wrist, and the brick flew in the exact opposite direction from the building she was on.

"Bang!"

The crisp impact rang out on the silent street as the brick struck the exterior wall of a building diagonally away, scattering debris and instantly attracting the attention of the surrounding zombies like an invisible signal flare.

The surrounding zombies abandoned their original wandering routes and surged towards the building from which the sound had come.

Sharp claws scratched frantically at the hard wall, producing a series of chilling, ear-piercing sounds. The countless whitish scratches on the wall and the tireless, relentless attacks of the corpses looked particularly eerie against the gloomy sky.

These zombies, like those on the outer edge of Plum Blossom City, are not a new type of zombie.

Chuanliu drew a conclusion.

She sat on the rooftop, gazing at the "golden diamond" under the night sky.

In retrospect, the new type of zombies that quietly infiltrated from the City of Plum Blossoms to the outskirts of various cities were undoubtedly part of a carefully planned and intentional scheme.

Ordinary zombies, like the ones Chuanliu encountered today, usually stay in one place if no humans are around.

No wonder the corpses within Plum Blossom City haven't left the border for so many years, but recently this pattern has been broken.

It seems to be related to the fact that the new type of zombie has retained some consciousness.

A gust of cold wind swept by again, carrying with it a putrid stench, causing Chuanliu to frown. She lay on the rooftop, trying to calm herself and listen to the distant sound of the waves.

However, a sudden burst of hurried running sounds from the ground shattered the tranquility, jolting Chuanliu awake from his relaxation.

The footsteps were conscious and rhythmic, clearly human footsteps, and there were quite a few of them.

Chuanliu listened carefully and realized there were at least eight people.

They seemed to be running in a great panic, trying to avoid the surrounding zombies, but the uncontrolled footsteps only attracted more zombies.

Chuanliu quietly approached the edge of the rooftop, concealing himself and observing the situation below.

She saw eight fully equipped humans running wildly down the street in the distance, heading in her direction.

They held iron swords and looked tense.

Clearly, their frantic running was of no advantage against the sheer number of corpses. Wave after wave of corpses charged toward them, and the situation grew increasingly dire.

The leader, panting heavily, whispered to his teammates, "No! If this continues, we'll run out of energy sooner or later. There are just too many of them!"

One of the team members glanced back at the relentlessly pursuing horde of zombies, a look of despair on his face. "Are we going to die?"

"I won't let you die!" the captain gritted his teeth, as if these words were a promise he made to himself.

Just then, another team member offered a suggestion: "We can't keep running like this. These zombies have no intelligence. We can climb to higher ground so they can't keep up."

“Yes! Let’s climb to higher ground!” the captain agreed.

Upon hearing their words, Chuanliu narrowed his eyes, quickly assessing the situation in his mind.

If these people successfully find a climbing path and climb onto the rooftops of other houses, their location will be exposed sooner or later.

It's uncertain whether they are friend or foe. Moreover, they have attracted the hatred of all the zombies on the street. Who can guarantee that the zombies won't be driven to desperation and build a human ladder to climb up as well?

At this moment, the eight-person team moved quickly and had already spotted a slightly low house next to the river. They began to use the water pipes and balconies on the edge of the house as steps and struggled to climb upwards.

Seeing this, the corpses below roared even more fiercely, and some of them even clumsily imitated their movements, trying to follow them, even though that was beyond their capabilities.

Chuan Liu frowned, looking around for possible evacuation routes.

But the eight men had already begun climbing, and all the zombies' eyes were focused upwards. Trying to escape would likely result in them being discovered by the approaching zombies. And at the current rate, zombies from the entire residential area were being drawn here, making the situation increasingly critical.

Chuanliu cursed under his breath.

The only way to prevent them from causing any further trouble is to rescue them as soon as possible.

With this in mind, the girl immediately took action.

With practiced ease, she ripped off her hair tie and, using its elasticity, launched a special black marble in the opposite direction from where everyone was.
