A complex mix of emotions welled up in Fu Baili's heart; he was moved, but mostly speechless.
The situation was now completely out of his control; the mysterious man opposite him was probably far stronger than him.
But keeping his oath has always been his principle and the creed of Spade City. Even knowing that he would be in danger, he still had to take on the responsibility of protecting Jia.
"Take Jia Zuowei away quickly! It will be too late if we don't leave now!"
He urged loudly, while doing his utmost to parry the relentless attacks from Zhui Ming.
Each clash of swords left him feeling powerless, but he gritted his teeth and persevered.
The girl, Chuanliu, stood to the side, her face showing an expression of extreme reluctance.
She clenched her teeth, as if making a difficult decision.
Finally, she made up her mind and, supporting the swaying Jia, said:
"Brother Jia, let's go quickly."
Jia was so dizzy that he could barely stand, but he still nodded and obediently followed the flow of people toward the door of the council hall.
The doors to the council chamber suddenly flung open, and the clamor of fighting roared out like a beast released from its cage.
The bodyguards guarding the door caught a glimpse of Jia Zuowei and Chuanliu covered in blood, and their alarm bells went off instantly.
The girl was extremely anxious, her voice trembling with urgency:
"Quick! An assassin is trying to kill Brother Jia! Go and support your boss!"
Fu Baili's team proved to be highly professional. Upon seeing the situation, the bodyguards on the fourth floor rushed into the room and engaged in a fierce battle with Zhui Ming.
The girl seemed afraid that the assassin would come after her. Before leaving, she slammed the door of the council chamber shut, even locking it from the inside and removing the key.
The door closed, completely sealing Fu Baili's unspoken cries inside.
In an instant, Zhui Ming found himself all alone, facing ten thugs, including Fu Baili.
He glanced at the tightly closed door and smiled helplessly to himself.
It's unclear whether Chuanliu did this to make it easier for him to take action, or to deliberately put him in a desperate situation where he had to fight ten opponents, leaving him no room to escape.
How come this so-called "burning one's boats and breaking one's cauldrons" only broke his cauldrons and sank his boats?
She's such an unpredictable woman.
However, the thought vanished in an instant. When the ten thugs pounced on him like hungry wolves, Zhui Ming's expression instantly turned cold and murderous.
The killer's aura as "8 of Spades" was instantly revealed.
He moved like a cheetah, nimbly weaving through the thugs' encirclement; his movements were as fast as lightning, making his every move unpredictable.
Fu Baili and his men had solemn expressions.
After several encounters, he knew how formidable Zhui Ming was.
The young man in front of me is far more skilled than I am. He is definitely not an ordinary thug. But why have I never seen him before?
Amidst the flashing blades, Fu Baili led his men in a fierce attack on Zhui Ming.
However, Zhui Ming's movements were even faster than they had imagined, as if he could predict the opponent's attack trajectory in advance, always dodging at the most critical moment, and launching a counterattack with lightning speed.
The short sword in Zhui Ming's hand transformed into streaks of silver light. His movements were both fast and accurate, and each attack struck the opponent's weak points precisely, making it impossible for them to get close.
Although Fu Baili's henchmen were numerous, they were utterly helpless in front of Zhui Ming.
They were relentlessly pursued and forced to retreat, barely managing to keep their attack from being disrupted.
Zhui Ming was like a cheetah freely roaming the jungle, while Fu Baili and the others became his prey.
He handled each attack with ease, while constantly searching for his opponent's weaknesses.
"Call for backup immediately!"
Fu Baili, clutching his wound, spoke through the pain with the help of his subordinates.
One of his men received the order and immediately ran to the door, but it was locked and he couldn't open it right away.
A scream of agony rang out, and the subordinate who ran to open the door was killed with a single blow.
Zhui Ming stood at the door, the knife in his hand spinning like a butterfly flapping its wings.
The man looked coldly at the crowd before him.
"None of you are leaving here today."
"Who...are you?"
Fu Baili looked puzzled. He forced himself to sit up and resumed his defensive posture.
The former raised his hand and easily dispatched two more seriously injured bodyguards.
Does it matter who I am? What matters is that you lost.
Fu Baili's brothers still wanted to protect him; they used their bodies to block Zhui Ming and shouted at Fu Baili:
"Boss, run!"
With a swift stroke, Zhui Ming struck the vital points, eliminating several people.
In the blink of an eye, only Zhui Ming and Fu Baili remained.
The surroundings were completely quiet.
Watching his brothers die one after another before his eyes, Fu Baili's mentality began to collapse, and he heard a buzzing sound in his ears.
Both their physical and mental health suffered severe damage.
He still wanted to put up a stubborn resistance, but Zhui Ming flashed his figure, dodging Fu Baili's knife, and at the same time thrust his short knife straight at his throat.
The former was terrified and tried to retreat, but it was too late.
Fu Baili could only watch helplessly as the dagger that was chasing him approached his throat, a strong sense of fear welling up in his heart.
In his final moments, two words escaped his throat.
—Chase After Life!
Perhaps it was the mutual respect between two people of the same Spade rank, or perhaps it was being moved by his unwavering commitment to the contract, but Zhui Ming acted swiftly and decisively, without causing him much pain.
