Chapter 192 Why don't you find yourself a stepmother?

Chapter 192 Why don't you find yourself a stepmother?

Xiao Heng stared at Shen Yan in shock and punched him hard. "Are you crazy? How come you still haven't given up on Lin Xi!"

"Can you beat Brother Xu or Brother Yunzhou? We're brothers, I won't help you, I can only help you collect your corpse."

Shen Yan listened to Xiao Heng's words and sighed heavily, "I'm just feeling unbalanced. We were the first to meet Lin Xi, so how did she end up being snatched away by Brother Xu?"

“Sigh! That’s what you call fate,” Xiao Heng patted Shen Yan on the shoulder. “Maybe God didn’t want us brothers to fall out over a woman.”

Shen Yan looked at Xiao Heng in surprise, "You like Lin Xi too?"

"Is that strange? A beautiful woman is sought after by a gentleman. I'm a man, isn't it normal for me to like Lin Xi?" Xiao Heng asked.

Okay, that's perfectly normal.

"Let's go to the hospital to see Grandpa Song tomorrow," Shen Yan suggested.

Xiao Heng glanced at him and said, "Fine, we can't let Brother Yunzhou reap the benefits without lifting a finger."

...

Lin Xi put her suitcase in a room, the room she chose was next to Grandma Lin's.

After putting her things away, she walked to her grandmother's room and gently knocked on the door, not knowing if her grandmother was asleep.

"Come in!" Grandma Lin called from inside.

Lin Xi pushed open the door and went in. "Grandma, did I disturb your rest?"

"Xixi?" Grandma Lin sat up, her eyes filled with astonishment. "When did you get back? By yourself?"

"Grandma, is it okay if I move in with you?" Lin Xi asked, sitting on the edge of the bed.

“Of course,” Grandma Lin said, holding Lin Xi’s hand. “But why did you move here so suddenly? Did something happen to the Song family?”

"It's nothing serious," Lin Xi said casually. "Grandpa Song Xu suffered from respiratory alkali poisoning, caused by being too angry. He can't get angry anymore."

Upon hearing Lin Xi's words, Grandma Lin understood. "It's all Grandma's fault. I went too far with my words today and made Old Man Song faint."

"Grandma, it's not your fault," Lin Xi comforted her with a smile. "Even if you didn't make him angry, with Song Xu's temper, he could still make his grandfather faint. It was bound to happen sooner or later."

“I probably won’t see Song Xu for a while, and it’s not really appropriate for me to stay at his place by myself, so I packed some things and moved here.”

"Alright, let's calm things down for a while," Grandma Lin nodded, then asked, "How are your brother and Tian Tian doing?"

“My brother was scolded by Grandpa Song and kicked out of the ward. Then he brought me and Tian Tian back from the hospital,” Lin Xi put her arm around Grandma Lin’s shoulder. “Grandpa Song said he’s not going to interfere with my brother and Tian Tian’s marriage anymore. Your appearance today was worthwhile.”

Grandma Lin wasn't very happy to hear this. "Don't try to comfort me. I'm the one who escalated the conflict. The reason your brother is with Tian Tian is because Tian Tian's family approves of him."

“But between you and Xiaoxu,” Grandma Lin sighed, “if it weren’t for me, there might still be room for reconciliation. Now that things have fallen apart, it will be even more difficult for you and Xiaoxu.”

“Grandpa Song doesn’t think much of me, and no amount of trying to smooth things over will work,” Lin Xi said with a faint smile. “This situation is difficult to break.”

Grandma Lin sighed, "It's all my fault for being so incompetent. If I had hundreds of millions in assets, I could overwhelm Old Man Song with money."

“I could knock him out with a coin now,” Lin Xi laughed, “but I’d feel bad even throwing him a dollar. He’s not worth it.”

Grandma Lin felt even more heartbroken when she saw Lin Xi still able to smile. "Xi Xi, you don't have to pretend in front of Grandma. If you want to cry, just cry. It will make you feel better."

Lin Xi had just cried with Lu Yunzhou, and now she couldn't cry anymore. "Grandma, I'm really fine. It's late, you should go to sleep. I have class tomorrow, so I should go back and rest too."

“Okay, if you’re sad, come and cry in Grandma’s arms for a while,” Grandma Lin said.

Lin Xi covered Grandma Lin with the blanket, turned off the light, and left the room.

Back in her room, Lin Xi took everything out of her suitcase and arranged it neatly. After washing up, she didn't go to sleep immediately but instead took out her books and continued studying.

Nothing could stop her from making progress in her studies. Lin Xi always understood one principle: only what you get through hard work is truly yours.

What good is it for her to find a rich boyfriend? When things are good, she can eat well, dress well, and have access to good resources. But once they break up, she can't take anything with her except herself.

...

Song Xu was forced to stay at the hospital by his grandfather to keep him company.

Song Qingshi agreed without hesitation. "Better to die than lose my friend," he reasoned. With Song Xu staying behind, he could take his wife home.

Xu Wantang looked at Song Xu with concern. What could she do to help her son and Xixi?

“Children and grandchildren have their own blessings,” Song Qingshi comforted Xu Wantang. “Let the children handle their own affairs.”

“Song Qingshi, are you even speaking human language?” Xu Wantang glared at him. “Why don’t you tell your father this? Why does he insist on interfering in Xiaoxu and Xixi’s affairs?”

“Then what am I supposed to do?” Song Qingshi said, also worried. “I can’t just make my dad so angry that he dies.”

Xu Wantang sighed, "I think he's just bored. Why don't you find yourself a stepmother, the kind that can keep your dad occupied every day?"

"Nonsense!" Song Qingshi frowned deeply. "Wouldn't that make the house even more chaotic?"

Xu Wantang was just saying it casually, but if the old man really found a young woman and she ended up having a child for the Song family, it would be a real problem.

"I wonder how Xixi is doing," she sighed. "Such a good child, why doesn't the old man like her?"

...

Song Xu stayed at the hospital overnight, and got up early the next day, preparing to find an excuse to leave and go back to find Lin Xi.

To his surprise, the moment he moved, Old Master Song opened his eyes and asked, "Where are you going?"

“Grandpa, I’m going to the company,” Song Xu said. “I still have a lot of things to take care of.”

“Your father is enough for the company,” Old Master Song told the caregiver to raise the hospital bed. He looked at Song Xu and said, “You stay with me in the hospital.”

“Grandpa,” Song Xu said reluctantly, “there are caregivers here, and I can’t help with anything. I’d rather go to the company and do what I can.”

"I asked you to stay with me, why are you talking so much nonsense?" Old Master Song sneered. "What I say goes. Are you trying to drive me crazy by always arguing with me?"

“Okay, you win.” Song Xu sat back on the sofa.

Song Xu was bored in the ward and wanted to send a message to Lin Xi, but he was afraid of disturbing her class.

Around 10 o'clock, Shen Yan and Xiao Heng arrived carrying fruit baskets.

Song Xu was quite puzzled, "How did you two know my grandfather was hospitalized?"

"I heard about it last night." Shen Yan chuckled, sat down, offered his condolences to Grandpa Song, and then got straight to the point.

"Brother Xu, is Lin Xi still living in your apartment?"
