Lu Yunzhou had looked up Lin Xi's information and knew that she came from a poor family, was an excellent student, and was a freshman at Jiang University.
Hearing Lin Xi's words, he felt inexplicably sad and couldn't help but glance at Lin Xi a few more times.
Upon looking at her, he realized that Lin Xi, who was quietly lost in thought, resembled someone very much—the most beautiful woman in his memory.
Lu Yunqi, however, picked up on another detail in Lin Xi's words: "From what Miss Lin is saying, your family isn't very well-off?"
"Yes, it's very bad." Lin Xi raised her eyes and met Lu Yunqi's gaze.
"Ha! So it's a story of a poor female college student climbing into a wealthy family." A hint of disdain flashed in Lu Yunqi's eyes. "Then I'm quite curious, how did Miss Lin and Song Xu meet?"
“Xiaoqi…” Song Xu looked at Lu Yunqi with displeasure, wanting her to shut up.
Lin Xi silenced Song Xu by pressing her index finger against his lips.
Song Xu obediently stopped talking, took Lin Xi's hand and kissed it.
It was unbearable to watch; all the men present chose not to look.
Lu Yunqi stared intently at the hand that Song Xu had kissed Lin Xi; she wanted to chop that hand off.
Lin Xi blushed and withdrew her hand. Was Song Xu out of his mind? Didn't he know the occasion?
"The first time I met Song Xu was when I worked as a part-time cleaner at his house." Lin Xi spoke candidly about how she met Song Xu. Even if she didn't say it, it would be found out anyway, so she might as well admit it openly.
"A part-time worker?" Lu Yunqi's best friend exclaimed in surprise.
Lu Yunqi was satisfied with her reaction. She snorted coldly, "That's really melodramatic. You're so lucky to have climbed up to such a high position so easily."
Lin Xi nodded. "Meeting Song Xu was indeed my good fortune."
Lu Yunqi was surprised that Lin Xi accepted it so readily; she really was shameless, just like her friend.
But something's not right. Lu Yunqi glanced at Bai Tiantian and saw the necklace she was wearing. It looked familiar, like an auction item.
How could a poor student become friends with a rich girl?
"I'm quite curious how Miss Lin and Miss Bai became best friends. Were they high school classmates?" Lu Yunqi guessed that they were classmates in the same high school, and that was the only possibility.
“No, I didn’t know Xixi when I was in high school,” Bai Tiantian answered Lu Yunqi’s question. “We met at a domestic service agency. I came to Jiangbei City to work after graduating from high school.”
“Xixi was hired by Song Xu, but I was hired by Shen Yan and Xiao Heng,” Bai Tiantian winked at Shen Yan and Xiao Heng. “I’m their nanny now, and I live with them.”
Shen Yan and Xiao Heng were dumbfounded. When did this happen? How come they didn't know?
Lin Xi's eyes widened. Sweetie's lies just came out of her mouth so easily.
Song Xu glanced at the expressions of the others and decided to remain silent.
“Chen Yan and Xiao Heng are very generous. They give me a salary of 100,000 yuan every month, which not only solved my tuition problem, but also waived my accommodation fee. There is just one downside…” Bai Tiantian sighed.
"What's wrong with it?" I don't know which guy was being so polite as to ask.
"It's just that they like me too much, which is causing me trouble. They give me clothes, necklaces, and cosmetics. My room is almost overflowing," Bai Tiantian said, smoothing her hair. "Actually, I prefer more mature men, like Teacher Song."
Song Chen coughed lightly; he never expected that Bai Tiantian's anger would spread to him.
He took out a cigarette and put it in his mouth, trying to ease the awkwardness, but before he could even light it, Bai Tiantian snatched the cigarette from his mouth.
“Teacher Song, you’ve been coughing, you should probably smoke less,” Bai Tiantian said, picking up the cigarette pack and pointing to a line of text on it, reading it aloud to Song Chen, “Smoking is harmful to your health!”
Lin Xi couldn't stand it anymore and moved closer to Song Xu.
Lu Yunzhou immediately felt the cigarette irritating his throat, so he put it out.
Lu Yunqi realized that Lin Xi and Bai Tiantian were going to take the two Song brothers for themselves.
Why should she get it? If she can't have it, no one else should either.
"Brother Chen, I heard you already have a marriage partner?" Lu Yunqi pouted and said, "I've only been away for two months, and you and Song Xu are already taken. Will you both become the kind of people who forget their friends for the sake of beauty?"
“How could that be?” Song Chen smiled. “A lover is a lover, and a sister is a sister. There’s no conflict between them.”
"Wow, Teacher Song is so eloquent and reasonable," Bai Tiantian praised from the side. "No wonder he's the man I've set my sights on."
Shen Yan and Xiao Heng kept covering their faces with their hands; they were too ashamed to continue in this industry.
Song Chen gave Bai Tiantian a meaningful look. "Take it easy. Do you want to do push-ups or burpees in public?"
Bai Tiantian snorted and turned her back to Song Chen.
Song Chen glanced at her back and didn't dare to look at her a second time. The white dress had a deep V-neck that went all the way down to her waist, and her fair skin was so dazzling that it hurt the eyes.
Anyone would want to touch it, let alone a man. Song Chen didn't know how he managed to control himself; it was a bit torturous.
Bai Tiantian turned around for a long time but didn't turn back. Finally, Song Chen couldn't stand it anymore and took off his coat and draped it over Bai Tiantian's back.
Bai Tiantian turned around and looked at him in confusion. "Teacher Song, I'm not cold."
"I'm hot!" Song Chen glared at her. "Who told you to wear this kind of dress out? If I find out again, you'll be punished by copying books."
"Okay, okay," Bai Tiantian said sweetly, "I'll listen to you from now on, alright?"
It felt like he'd punched cotton; Song Chen was practically bursting with pent-up frustration. "Lin Xi, keep an eye on your friend, or I'll punish you too."
Huh? Lin Xi was suddenly called out. She straightened up and looked miserable when she heard the last word. What did this have to do with her?
Bai Tiantian grabbed Lin Xi's hand and said with a wronged expression, "I'm sorry, Xi Xi, I've made you suffer the punishment with me."
"But I know you won't blame me, right?"
Lin Xi had a bad feeling. "Sweetie, what do you want to do?"
Bai Tiantian suddenly turned to face Song Chen and said affectionately, "Chenchen, I like you."
