Chapter 209 "How did Xixi get it?"
Song Xu raised an eyebrow. "Oh, it's your mother-in-law. She must be missing you."
Lin Xi hummed in agreement. "I was sleeping with Mom in my arms last night, but then you and my brother got into a fight, so I had to leave in a hurry. I didn't get to enjoy enough of your love."
“It’s all my fault,” Song Xu kissed Lin Xi’s hair. “There’s still a long time ahead of you, and you can slowly enjoy your mother’s love.”
Just as Song Xu finished speaking, Lin Xi's phone rang again; it was a video call from Zhou Ruolan.
Lin Xi panicked. Her head was wrapped in gauze, and she was clearly injured. What should she do? If she didn't take the medicine, her mother would be even more worried.
Song Xu took Lin Xi's phone, answered it, and pointed the camera at his own face. Lin Xi tried to stop him, but it was too late.
Zhou Ruolan saw an unfamiliar face appear on her phone, its face bruised and swollen. Startled, she quickly moved the phone away. "Who are you?"
“Hello, Auntie, I’m Song Xu, Xi Xi’s boyfriend,” Song Xu forced a smile through his pain. “Xi Xi went to the bathroom and didn’t take her phone with her.”
Zhou Ruolan stared at Song Xu for two seconds. "Do you know who I am?"
Song Xu nodded, "Xi Xi told me secretly. Don't worry, I will keep it a secret and will also lend Brother Yunzhou a hand."
Zhou Ruolan hummed in agreement, then looked at Song Xu, "When Xixi comes back, have her call me back."
"Okay, goodbye Auntie. I'll visit you in person when I'm discharged from the hospital." Song Xu's attitude was very humble.
Only after Zhou Ruolan hung up the phone did Song Xu stop smiling and breathe a sigh of relief.
Lin Xi, who had been covering her mouth, also let go of her hand. "You scared me to death."
Song Xu handed the phone back to Lin Xi, saying, "Just call her in five minutes."
"Luckily you reacted quickly," Lin Xi said with a smile.
Song Xu touched his face, "I wonder if my face has scared your mother."
"It's alright," Lin Xi comforted her, "you can tell it's a person."
Song Xu snorted twice, "If it weren't for the fact that you're injured, I would have made you cry."
Lin Xi knew he couldn't do anything right now, not even kiss him, because he was embarrassed, hahaha!
...
After hanging up the phone, Zhou Ruolan felt uncomfortable. She couldn't tell what Song Xu looked like, but his attitude was quite good. However, Lu Zhentao had been very sweet-talking back then, otherwise she wouldn't have been so infatuated with him.
She frowned as she walked out of the room and sat down opposite Zhou Jingming and Jiang Yan. "I just made a video call to Xixi."
Zhou Jingming and his wife were taken aback. A video call? Then their aunt must know about Xixi's injury. No wonder their aunt seemed so unhappy.
"Auntie, don't worry too much. We went to the hospital at noon, and Xixi is doing quite well," Zhou Jingming comforted her.
Zhou Ruolan frowned. She had come to ask about Xixi's boyfriend, but from Jingming's words, it seemed that something had happened to Xixi. "How did Xixi get hurt?"
Jiang Yan's eyes were filled with apology. "Auntie, I'm sorry, it was my cousin who hit me."
"Yan Yan, this has nothing to do with you," Zhou Jingming said, holding Jiang Yan's hand.
"Xixi got hurt?" Zhou Ruolan got the answer; her daughter was injured, which was why she hadn't answered her video call. She stood up. "I need to go to the hospital to see Xixi. Where is she hurt?"
Zhou Jingming then realized that his aunt had tricked him into revealing information. He was both amused and exasperated. The old fox was indeed cunning. He grabbed Zhou Ruolan's arm and said, "Aunt, calm down first. I'll tell you whatever you want to know, okay? You can't show yourself right now."
Zhou Ruolan sat down again and looked at Zhou Jingming, "Then you speak, I'm listening."
Hearing the commotion, Madam Zhou came over and sat down next to Zhou Ruolan, wanting to hear what was going on.
When Jiang Yan saw her mother-in-law coming over, she sighed inwardly, "There's no escaping it today. I have to say everything, whether I should or shouldn't."
She was preoccupied and couldn't eat much, so she told Zhou Jingming to continue eating, "Let me tell you."
Jiang Yan spoke clearly and logically, explaining the whole story in just a few sentences, including her falling out with her mother.
"That's the situation. Xiang Lei's behavior doesn't constitute a crime, so she can only be administratively detained. As a law student, she will definitely be expelled, and then she will have no future."
Jiang Yan felt that this lesson was enough; Xiang Lei had paid for her impulsiveness with the rest of her life.
Zhou Ruolan didn't say anything. She hadn't learned anything else from marrying Lu Zhentao, but she had learned a ruthless streak. In her eyes, this lesson was nothing at all.
But she didn't show it. She was in the Zhou family, a place where no one could be allowed to do anything wrong, so she could only keep her thoughts to herself.
"It's good that Xixi is alright," Zhou Ruolan said calmly. She then looked at Jiang Yan and said, "Yan Yan, your mother and uncle's family really went too far. It was right for you to cut ties with them. If they bother you again, have Jingming go to Yunzhou. He will help you deal with it."
Jiang Yan nodded. "Thank you, Auntie."
Mrs. Zhou frowned as she listened. She knew about Jiang Yan's family situation beforehand and didn't stop Zhou Jingming from helping them, as long as it wasn't too outrageous and crossed the line.
I never expected Jiang Yan's mother to be so twisted, scheming against her own daughter and unable to see her daughter live a good life. She is unworthy of being a mother and unworthy of being a human being.
“Yan Yan, you’ve been wronged,” Madam Zhou said, taking Jiang Yan’s hand. “From now on, I will treat you like my own daughter.”
"Okay." Jiang Yan's eyes were a little red.
“Mom, since we’re on the topic, there’s something else I’d like to tell you,” Zhou Jingming suddenly said.
"What is it?" Madam Zhou asked Zhou Jingming.
“Yan Yan and I have already registered our marriage,” Zhou Jingming said with a smile. “Yan Yan is now your daughter-in-law.”
"What?" Madam Zhou raised her voice, then slapped Zhou Jingming hard. "When did this happen? Why didn't you say so sooner, you child!"
“Just a while ago,” Zhou Jingming explained, “Yan Yan agreed to marry me, so I dragged her to get our marriage certificate. I was afraid my wife would run away.”
“Then you should at least tell your family,” Mrs. Zhou glared angrily at Zhou Jingming, then got up and left. “You all wait here.”
Jiang Yan clasped her hands together. Was her mother-in-law unhappy? Was it because of her family's affairs that she had developed a prejudice against her?
She hadn't let Zhou Jingming tell her family because she was afraid that her family situation... was truly complicated.
Zhou Jingming wasn't sure what his mother meant. Logically, she should be happy, since she had been urging him to get married and have children.
Not long after, Madam Zhou returned with a box in her hand.
She pushed the box in front of Jiang Yan, with a bank card on top of it. "Yan Yan, these are for you."
