Chapter 9 I Don't Have a Boyfriend
"It's alright, it's alright. I'm the hotel's lobby manager," the lobby manager said, instructing the security guard to put down a chair. "You must be tired from standing all the time. There's nothing else going on right now, so you can sit down and rest for a while."
"Thank you, but no need," Lin Xi politely declined. "I can manage."
“It’s alright,” the lobby manager said with a smile, taking Lin Xi’s hand. “You’re Mr. Song’s person, no one will dare to say anything against you.”
Lin Xi frowned slightly, understanding why the lobby manager was so enthusiastic towards her. She explained, "I'm not very familiar with President Song."
“They’re more familiar with me than we are,” the lobby manager said with a smile. “I’ll need you to put in a good word for me with President Song in the future.”
The hotel manager is about to resign, and as the lobby manager, she has a great chance to advance her career, all thanks to the girl in front of her.
Lin Xi's eyes widened. Had the lobby manager misunderstood something? "Manager, I'm really not familiar with President Song. I can't say anything to him."
“It’s okay if you can’t speak,” the lobby manager said casually, not expecting Lin Xi to help her in any way. “If you’re tired, take a break. I’ll go back to work now.”
The lobby manager left the chair behind and left with the security guards.
Lin Xi glanced at the chair next to her, struggled internally for a long time, but in the end she did not sit down. Instead, she moved the chair to the side.
She had to follow the training instructions and wasn't allowed to sit down.
After Song Xu finished his part inside, he came out of the venue, took two bottles of water, walked over to Lin Xi, and handed her one bottle, asking, "Want some?"
Lin Xi took the water and placed it on the table. "Thank you, President Song."
Song Xu unscrewed the bottle cap and took a sip of water. Lin Xi secretly raised her eyes and watched his Adam's apple bob up and down. She couldn't help but swallow as well.
"What's your relationship with that man from earlier?" Song Xu asked casually, tightening the bottle cap as he lowered his eyes.
Lin Xi was stunned for a moment, blinked a few times before realizing who Song Xu was asking about.
“His name is Gu Ming, and he went to the same high school as me,” Lin Xi explained.
Song Xu waited for two seconds, and when he realized Lin Xi wasn't saying anything more, he raised an eyebrow. "That's it?"
Lin Xi nodded. "That's all. We're just acquaintances."
"That's good," Song Xu said calmly. "It's good that he's not your boyfriend. Otherwise, it would be a case of good intentions gone wrong if I affected your relationship."
Lin Xi quickly shook her head, "No, I don't have a boyfriend."
Song Xu grunted in response, said nothing more, and returned to the venue without coming out again.
During the lunch break, someone brought Lin Xi a boxed lunch.
When Lin Xi opened the package, she found fish, shrimp, ribs, and a few green vegetables. The food was much better than what she had received during training a couple of days ago.
She took out her phone, took a picture and sent it to her grandmother, and then sent two voice messages: "Grandma, look at my lunchbox, isn't it delicious? You should eat something good too."
"By the way, Grandma, I might be home a little late today. After I finish here, I have to go to my employer's house to clean. Don't worry about me."
After putting her phone away, Lin Xi started eating.
Another greeter, Xiao Mei, who was standing at the stairwell, finished her boxed lunch and came to chat with Lin Xi. After seeing Lin Xi's boxed lunch, she exclaimed in surprise, "Why is your boxed lunch so good?"
Lin Xi paused in her work, looked up, and asked, "Aren't our boxed lunches different?"
"My lunchbox is the same as the one I had during training a couple of days ago, one meat dish and three vegetable dishes. I'm almost sick of eating it for three days in a row," Xiaomei said enviously, looking at Lin Xi's lunchbox.
Lin Xi lowered her eyes and glanced at her half-eaten boxed lunch. Could it be that the lobby manager had changed her boxed lunch?
Since she had already eaten, Lin Xi didn't care about anything else and ate quickly, finishing her boxed lunch under Xiao Mei's watchful eye.
Seeing Lin Xi eating so heartily, Xiao Mei couldn't help but swallow. "Lin Xi, I heard you know President Song of Huayue Group, is that true?"
There was a lot of people gathered here in the morning. Xiaomei really wanted to come and see what was going on, but she didn't dare to leave her post. She could only come over during her lunch break to find out.
Lin Xi tidied up the table, not really wanting to answer Xiao Mei's question, "Whether it's true or false, what does it have to do with you?"
Xiao Mei was rebuffed, her face turning pale and then red. She stomped her foot and snorted, "What's so great about her? She's still being kept by someone."
After Xiaomei finished speaking, she turned to leave, but Lin Xi grabbed her arm. "You have insulted and slandered me without any evidence, infringing on my right to reputation. I demand that you apologize to me, otherwise I will call the police and you will face corresponding administrative penalties."
Xiao Mei was dumbfounded. She had just said something casually, how could it be illegal? When she met Lin Xi's resolute gaze, she immediately backed down, "I'm sorry, Lin Xi, I shouldn't have hurt people with my words."
Lin Xi released her arm and warned her, "You'd better not spread rumors everywhere. Spreading rumors is not as simple as administrative punishment; it's a criminal offense."
"I won't," Xiaomei said dejectedly and ran away.
Lin Xi glared at Xiao Mei, feeling incredibly annoyed. Was this the only thing on people's minds—romantic relationships?
In her opinion, men don't smell as good as money.
After another long day, the investment promotion meeting ended on time at 5:30 pm.
Song Xu declined several invitations to banquets from clients. He disliked socializing and left such matters to his subordinates.
He walked out of the venue and stood in front of Lin Xi. "Can we go now?"
Lin Xi shook her head, "I need to change my clothes."
Song Xu glanced at her clothes, thinking that she didn't need to change, that the clothes were fine, but he swallowed the words back. "Then go change, I'll wait for you here."
Lin Xi shook her head again, "I have to wait until all the guests have left before I can leave."
What a stubborn girl. She left with him, and who dared to say anything? Song Xu sighed softly and sat on the chair brought by the lobby manager. "Then I'll wait for you a little longer."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Song." Lin Xi felt very bad, but there was nothing she could do. Since she had taken on this part-time job, she had to do it properly.
People leaving the venue would glance at Song Xu, then at Lin Xi, and then leave without saying a word.
After the venue cleared up, Lin Xi went to the designated spot to check in, changed back into her own clothes, and then hurriedly ran back to find Song Xu.
"Mr. Song, I'm all ready, you can go now."
Song Xu glanced at the oversized T-shirt she was wearing, which seemed to be the same one she wore the first time she visited his house. It was a pity that it hid her good figure.
He got up and left the hotel with Lin Xi.
Xiao Mei watched them from the hotel entrance, curled her lip in disdain. "They've already done it, and they don't want anyone to talk about it? They want to be prostitutes and still have a virtuous image to maintain. Bah!"
