Chapter 170 How about we don't sleep tonight?
Xiang Lei looked bewildered. "Is this really okay? What about my cousin?"
“You’re such a kind child,” Xiang’s mother said, patting Xiang Lei’s hair. “Jiang Yan beat you up like this, and you’re still worried about her.”
Jiang's mother didn't speak. With a cold face, she dialed Zhou Jingming's number, but no one answered.
She put down her phone. "I can't do anything about it; neither of them is answering their phones."
“Then we won’t leave tonight,” Xiang’s mother said. “I don’t believe Jiang Yan won’t come home tonight.”
"Whatever you say," Jiang's mother said, offering no objections.
...
Jiang Yan and Zhou Jingming got their phones after 2 a.m. They saw more than a dozen missed calls from Jiang's mother but didn't react.
"How about we live together from today?" Zhou Jingming hugged Jiang Yan from behind; he had been holding back for too long.
Jiang Yan stared blankly at her phone. Her mother had sent her a message that evening: "If you don't come home by 10 PM, you'll never come back to this house again."
She comes from a single-parent family. Her parents divorced when she was five years old. Her mother said it was because her father cheated on her. She never saw her father again and has lived with her mother ever since.
My mother and my uncle's family have a close relationship. My mother will prepare a portion of everything my uncle's family needs, including food, drinks, and other necessities.
After my cousin was born, my mother poured all her love and energy into her, and practically left her to her own devices.
Even though she worked hard to get into the best high school and the best university, she didn't receive a single word of praise from her mother.
Her mother would only smile at her when she had a stable job and a great boyfriend, because she could get money from her.
"Yan Yan, what are you thinking about?" Zhou Jingming thought she was unwilling when she didn't speak. "We can get our marriage certificate tomorrow and then start planning the wedding right away."
Jiang Yan turned to face Zhou Jingming. "Jingming, are you telling the truth?"
Zhou Jingming blinked. "Of course it's true. I've already prepared the wedding ring. You can make any requests you have."
Jiang Yan put her arm around Zhou Jingming's waist. "Jingming, let's register our marriage first. As for the wedding, there's no rush. We can postpone it for now."
“I hit Xiang Lei today. My mom and uncle will definitely be very angry. Let’s talk about our marriage after this is resolved.”
“Okay,” Zhou Jingming hugged Jiang Yan tightly, “I’ll do whatever you say.”
"Jingming, there's something else I want to ask you." Jiang Yan had a question in her mind, and she no longer wanted to hide it.
"Ask me what's wrong." Zhou Jingming stroked Jiang Yan's hair. He truly regretted not opening up to Jiang Yan sooner, which had made him waste a year.
"Isn't it a bit too intimate for you to call Lin Xi... Xi Xi?" If they are just classmates, it's really inappropriate to address each other like that.
When Jiang Yan asked him this, Zhou Jingming realized that he still couldn't resist getting close to Lin Xi when he saw her.
It wasn't time to go public yet, but he couldn't lie to his wife when she asked. After thinking for a moment, Zhou Jingming explained, "Because Xixi might be my long-lost cousin, I took her to get a DNA test today."
"Xixi is unaware of this matter yet, so it needs to be kept secret. Just keep it to yourself and don't tell anyone for now."
Jiang Yan's eyes were filled with astonishment; she never expected this reason. "Lin Xi could be your cousin?"
“It’s basically confirmed,” Zhou Jingming nodded. “We just need to do another DNA match.”
Zhou Jingming is always cautious and reliable in his work. If he said that, it means there is a greater than 90% chance that this matter is true.
Jiang Yan could then fully accept this situation, saying, "So that's how it is."
Zhou Jingming's cousin is much cuter than her cousin. In fact, Jiang Yan doesn't like Xiang Lei at all, and even harbors resentment towards her.
"Any other questions, my dear wife?" Zhou Jingming asked with a smile.
Jiang Yan nodded, blushing.
Zhou Jingming raised an eyebrow. "Any other questions?"
"If I stay here tonight, what am I going to wear to work tomorrow?" Arriving here was so sudden; I wasn't prepared at all.
“Here are your clothes,” Zhou Jingming said, leading Jiang Yan to a room next to the master bedroom. “This is the walk-in closet. I’ve prepared some clothes in there. Take a look and see if there’s anything you like. If not, you can exchange it for something else.”
Jiang Yan looked at the spacious walk-in closet, half of which was full. Her things took up two-thirds of it, including not only clothes but also shoes and bags, all of which were new styles.
She went over and looked at a few items to make sure the clothes and shoes were her size.
"Jingming, why didn't you tell me about all this?" Jiang Yan asked, her voice trembling with emotion.
“I’m afraid you’ll misunderstand and think I’m pressuring you to get married,” Zhou Jingming said with a wry smile. “If I had known earlier that you were also eager to get married, we might already have a child.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know my mother would call you,” Jiang Yan sighed, “and I can’t understand why she would do that.”
“It’s all my fault,” Zhou Jingming said, not wanting to put pressure on Jiang Yan, and also not wanting to speak ill of his future mother-in-law. “I shouldn’t have been so restrained; I missed so many wonderful nights.”
Jiang Yan was amused by Zhou Jingming's somewhat frivolous words. She glanced at him and said, "I thought you were a virtuous man who could remain unmoved even with a woman in his lap."
"I'm already in a panic," Zhou Jingming said, holding Jiang Yan's hand. "Wife, how about we don't sleep tonight?"
...
The next day, Lin Xi went to school and found that Xiang Lei was not there.
This made Lin Xi very unhappy; she wanted Xiang Lei to apologize to her in public.
She got Xiang Lei's phone number from the class monitor and dialed Xiang Lei's number during the break between classes.
After ringing a few times, Xiang Lei answered the phone, "Hello, who is this?"
“Xiang Lei, this is Lin Xi,” Lin Xi said coldly, “You had better come to school today and apologize to me in public, or you can expect the police to come after you.”
"Lin Xi, are you sick?" Xiang Lei exploded the moment she heard Lin Xi's voice. "You're the one who hit me, and you still have the nerve to call the police to arrest me? Let me tell you, Jingming's father is a policeman. Don't try to scare me."
"What does it matter to you whether Brother Zhou's family has police or not?" Lin Xi scoffed. "You're just Jiang Yan's cousin. You're not even as close to Jiang Ran as I am."
It's utterly ridiculous. Lin Xi felt that Xiang Lei's thought process was quite different from that of a normal person.
"What do you know? Brother Jingming will definitely help me," Xiang Lei sneered. "You want me to apologize? Keep dreaming."
Xiang Lei hung up the phone after she finished speaking.
Lin Xi put down her phone, feeling a tightness in her chest. Bai Tiantian, standing beside her, said anxiously, "Xi Xi, Xiang Lei is too arrogant. I can't stand her. How about we go find her at noon?"
