The next morning.

When Lin Tang got up from the bed, he subconsciously reached for his phone on the bedside table. When the screen lit up, he caught a glimpse of an unread message on it.

Feng Chibai: [Dress nicely today]

It was sent at around seven this morning.

Sui Sui: [? ]

Feng Chibai: [I went back and thought about it. Although you won't, in order to avoid any unexpected situations, I think we can get the certificate as well.]

Years old: [. ]

It was not until after eleven in the morning that Feng Chibai arrived as scheduled with two documents.

In the office, Lin Tang briefly glanced over the contents of the prenuptial agreement and signed his name on it very readily.

She turned the document around and pushed it towards Feng Chibai, indicating to him that the agreement was valid.

Feng Chibai didn't mean to leave immediately. He handed the documents to his assistant, a smile on his face, and said gently, "The Civil Affairs Bureau is still open at this time."

Lin Tang: “…”

It's for real.

Although I had prepared myself mentally after seeing the news this morning, I was still choked when I heard him mention it in person.

It took a moment to finally accept the fact that I was getting married today.

She stood up, grabbed her coat and put it on, walked towards the door, and said, "Let's go."

At the Civil Affairs Bureau, after receiving the red book, the couple was not as happy as other couples. Even the smiles in the photos seemed forced.

Just to complete the task.

Now that the mission is accomplished, it’s time for everyone to go home.

In the car that was sending her back to the Astronomical Research Institute, Feng Chibai suddenly said, "Would it be convenient for you to pack your luggage tonight? You can stay at my house tomorrow."

Lin Tang looked nonchalant: "Mr. Feng, have you thought about how to explain this to your family? I'm not very good at talking anyway. If the truth is revealed, Mr. Feng will have to help you smooth things over."

The two of them were like grasshoppers on the same rope. Now it was time to conspire to do something big, and they were talking back and forth, discussing things.

Feng Chibai reminded: "Don't worry about this, but the most urgent thing is that you stop calling me President Feng."

He paused, then said, "You can call me Chi Bai."

Lin Tang uttered an "oh" and seemed to have thought of something, muttering softly, "Chi Bai... idiot..."

Her voice was not loud, but since they were close to each other, Feng Chibai naturally heard what she said and was subconsciously stunned for a moment.

He vaguely remembered that when he was six years old, he had just started primary school. His parents had already separated and Feng Junming was worried about his mother. At that time, his mother was still mentally normal and regarded him as her only hope, taking care of him wholeheartedly.

Because he was still young, his mother was afraid that he would play jokes due to his immaturity. The name that had once been given infinite love became her biggest worry at that time.

On the first night after returning from school, his mother asked him, "Will Xiaochi dislike this name?"

He didn't understand what his mother said at first, and asked, "No, what's wrong?"

Hearing his words, his mother breathed a sigh of relief and smiled tiredly, "That's good. I was worried... your classmates would give you a nickname, calling you little idiot."

He shook his head: "My classmates are all easy to get along with."

He hadn't lied, and no one had ever associated his name with that. However, perhaps even his mother wouldn't have imagined that the nickname she'd been worried about would be brought up again by a mature woman twenty years later.

Perhaps noticing something unusual about the person next to him, Lin Tang glanced sideways. Seeing him momentarily stunned, he thought he had touched a sore spot again and quickly made a stop gesture: "Sorry, no offense, don't think too much about it."

His thoughts were brought back by her voice, and he laughed lightly: "It's okay."

Lin Tang felt a little puzzled. He could still laugh after being scolded. He always felt that he was holding back something bad, so he kept silent.

When they arrived at the research institute, Feng Chibai did not come in with them.

After all, today is a weekday and he has his own things to do.

Back in the office, Lin Tang casually threw the red notebook on the table and sat down in the armchair to drink some water.

Ying Yu happened to bring in a document and thought that Lin Tang was not there. However, as soon as he entered the room, he saw her sitting like a big boss, turning her chair leisurely.

He casually asked, "Boss, where did you go just now? Why did you take so long to come back?"

Lin Tang swallowed a mouthful of water and said, "I'm getting married."

Her tone was so casual that it didn't sound genuine.

Ying uttered an "oh!" and joked again, asking how much he really wanted to get married.

However, when he placed the document on her desk, his eyes were completely drawn to the red book. He opened his mouth in surprise, paused for a few seconds, and then looked at Lin Tang again, back and forth several times, before finally unable to resist opening it and reading the contents.

The wedding photo with a red background suddenly appeared in front of him.

After a few seconds of silence, he shouted in shock: "Holy crap, are you serious?"

Lin Tang glanced at him indifferently without answering, and continued to sit there as usual.

Ying Yu frowned, stood there, and hissed several times in succession, but still couldn't figure out what was going on.

He strode over to Lin Tang, held down the rocking chair she was sitting on, and asked seriously, "Boss, why?"

In his heart, although Lin Tang was usually a little arrogant, conceited, and dismissive... her business ability was beyond words. No one who entered the institute at the same time as her could compare to her.

He always felt that Lin Tang was the kind of person who would never get married, because he felt that she looked down on everyone and no one was worthy of her.

But now, a red book was laid out in front of him, completely breaking all his stereotypes.

They didn't even take the wedding date seriously, as if they had stolen some opportunity and just wanted to get the marriage certificate and be done with it.

No, why on earth?

Lin Tang finally stood up. She took the marriage certificate from his hand and put it in her bag, still with a nonchalant attitude: "Oh, you're in love."

Response: "..."

evening.

After Feng Chibai sent Lin Tang back to the community, he rushed back to the old house in time for dinner.

At the dinner table, everyone was eating quietly as usual.

Noticing that the old man was about to put down his bowl and chopsticks, Feng Chibai got there first, leaning slightly towards him and blurting out, "Grandpa, I'm getting married."

As soon as the words came out, everyone present instantly turned their eyes to him.

Those who were surprised and those who wanted to watch the show came together.

This happened too suddenly, without any signs at all. People thought he was looking for someone to marry on a whim, or was being "responsible" after a one-night stand. The old man's eyes widened, and he looked at him angrily, about to slam the table and scold him.

Before the old man could get angry, he added calmly, "With Lin Tang."

This time, even the audience was shocked. Everyone's expressions were unexpectedly consistent.

It seemed as if overnight, the so-called friend of Feng Yunjing suddenly turned into... Feng Chibai's wife, which no one expected.

Even at the sound of that name, Feng Yunjing's breathing quickened. It felt as if a large hand was squeezing his heart, and he felt a wave of suffocation and dizziness. Even before he could register the truth behind the words, his body reacted first.

He stared at Feng Chibai, trying to find any trace of lying on his face.

But he still said calmly: "So I want to discuss with you about letting Lin Tang move into the old house tomorrow night."

The old man's anger had gradually subsided. Although he couldn't quite understand what was going on, he had the impression that his previous thoughts wouldn't happen to Lin Tang. His brows still furrowed, he asked in a calm voice, "Why so sudden?"

"It wasn't sudden." Feng Chibai paused, then continued to explain: "We've known each other for a long time and have gone out together privately many times. Plus, her grandmother was very satisfied with me, so we picked a date to get the marriage certificate."

Xu Jianyun couldn't sit still any longer, but he had to maintain his composure: "Xiao Chi, don't say such things casually."

Feng Chibai had anticipated her question, so he leisurely pulled out the marriage certificate from his pocket and placed it before everyone. The contents were left open, instantly silencing those who still had questions.

A barely perceptible curve appeared at the corner of his mouth. Although the main purpose of this meal was to inform them of this matter, now that the goal had been achieved, he was not in a hurry to leave.

At least, he had enough patience to let them say everything they wanted to say and ask.

Xu Jianyun's face had begun to turn sour. She had thought it was only a matter of time before her son took down Lin Tang, but someone had gotten there first without anyone noticing. She was furious but couldn't vent her anger. She forced a smile and said, "This is such an important matter, why didn't you discuss it with the family?"

Feng Chibai naturally knew what she was planning with this so-called "discussion," but he wouldn't give her the chance. He nodded slightly in pretense of thought and said, "I really didn't think this through properly."

The old man had completely accepted this at this point. He was silent for a while before asking, "When are you planning to hold the wedding?"

"Sui Sui's current focus is on her work, so she doesn't want to make it such a grand occasion for now." Feng Chibai paused deliberately, as if he had just realized what was happening, and chuckled softly, "Oh, Sui Sui is Lin Tang's nickname."

Feng Junming had been wearing a cold expression from the beginning until now, but now he finally spoke up: "Then at least you should have a meal with their parents."

At least talk about whether you are suitable for each other first, and then finalize the marriage, instead of taking the initiative to get the certificate without saying hello.

Ever since his mother's death, Feng Chibai had maintained a distant attitude towards his nominal father. Despite a deep hatred for him, he managed to maintain a positive attitude. His tone was even, "She has no parents and was raised by her grandmother since she was a child. Now that her grandmother is ill and hospitalized, there's no need to trouble her any further."

Everyone obviously didn't know much about Lin Tang's family situation. After hearing what he said, they immediately fell silent. It was the old man who came out to smooth things over: "Okay, let's have Aunt Zhao clean up your room later. Tomorrow is your first day moving in, at least you have to leave a good impression."

Feng Chibai nodded.

After the meal, everyone went back to their rooms with their own thoughts.

In the room at the corner of the second floor, the door was locked. Feng Yunjing sat on the sofa with a stern face. Standing opposite him were Feng Junming and Xu Jianyun.

Feng Yunjing folded his arms and leaned back, looking away from them, his breathing still heavy.

Feng Junming glared at him angrily. After a moment of silence, his anger rushed to his head. "What's going on? Didn't your mother say that you have a 70% to 80% chance of taking down Lin Tang?"

Xu Jianyun stood by, not daring to say a word. These words could not be said by Feng Yunjing, but were her own conjecture.

Feng Yunjing was upset, but said nonchalantly, "How should I know?"

"How do you know?" Feng Junming's pupils widened, his face flushed red. He pointed at him and cursed, "What on earth can you accomplish? From childhood to adulthood, how can you compare to Feng Chibai? I've put so much effort into cultivating you, and you, have you ever done anything outstanding?"

Feng Yunjing gritted his teeth, his eyes sharp. He took a deep breath, suddenly stood up and replied, "So what was your purpose in giving birth to me? To be a tool for you to fight for the family fortune? Did I let you cultivate me?"

He pointed outside the door, in the direction of Feng Chibai's room, and spoke word by word, "You were the one who chose to abandon him. Why should I bear all the consequences? Now you are pointing fingers and scolding me in front of me so righteously. Do you dare to say that you were not at fault at all in the past?"

“Snap——”

A crisp slap sounded.

Feng Yunjing's face instantly became covered in red marks, but he didn't turn away. He was panting, his eyes bloodshot, and his face was filled with resentment.

Xu Jianyun hadn't expected Feng Junming to actually attack, so he quickly grabbed his wrist and smoothed things over, saying, "Alright, this can't be entirely blamed on Xiao Jing. Feng Chibai is such a deep thinker, and Xiao Jing, with her limited experience, how can she possibly rival him?"

Feng Junming snorted coldly, glanced at him, and said, "Useless thing."

Then he turned and walked out the door.

Xu Jianyun looked at Feng Yunjing with some concern, but decided to catch up with Feng Junming first.

The moment the door was closed again, the dull pain hit him. He reached out and touched the place that had just been hit, and it felt hot.

He let out a muffled breath, his whole body seemed to be deflated, and he fell heavily onto the sofa again.

After a long time, as if he finally recovered, he took out his mobile phone and opened someone's chat interface.

He was eager to ask her for the specific reason.

But I repeatedly typed several messages in the chat box, but they were all deleted by him without exception.

He still doesn't have the courage.
